I can't say where and when I got this information, or from whom, but I heard earlier this year that AEG/Bowery Boston had a local, public transportation accessible outdoor venue in the works. I managed to keep my mouth shut and not tell anyone, but I had wondered if those plans fell through, having not heard anything about this since then.
I didn't know the location, but it's perfect. It's literally steps from the Blue line, and Suffolk Downs has a long history with live music, from The Beatles to Warped Tour to Radiohead to the Guinness Fleadh.
The problem with Suffolk Downs is that letting 8,500 people out in the middle of Eastie at 11pm with just the Blue Line to take them back into the city is going to be an ABSOLUTE shitshow every single time. Otherwise i'm really excited.

When events let out at the Garden or on Lansdowne St., you've not only got multiple train, bus, and rail lines nearby, but a lot of people may hang in the area to eat and drink. I haven't gotten off the Blue Line at Suffolk Downs since the Guinness Fleadh in 1999, but there wasn't much around back then. If there still isn't everyone's going to hightail it back home or to a busier part of town.
any guesses on opening lineup for that place? i feel like if fred again.. announced a full US tour he’d play there for sure since hes already massive. could also see Jamie xx, Hozier, Bon Iver, Mitski, Rosalía, LCD(again), and Iggy Pop(given his salt shed show)
also would very much like for Jack Harlow, Kid Laroi, and Skrillex to be here so the chance of them playing BC goes down lmao

Just now setting in how much fun a full Gizz set at Suffolk Downs would be, wish they hadn't been confirmed for BC
Confirmed? Sure, they're probably in the lineup, but no one and nothing's been confirmed yet.
It wouldn't surprise me if Boston Calling builds a clause into their artist contracts where if an artist cancels due to no fault of the festival itself, they have right of first refusal for the artist's next Boston area date.
I just wish that Boston Calling would give artists that usually play 2-3 hours a longer closing set on Blue, say, at least 90 minutes. Goose were great, but their set felt way too short.
