someone brought up the good point that theres a techno night at phoenix landing thats been going on for over a decade thats also called re:set so its kinda shitty they named it this, hopefully they change the name
i dont think a national touring festival really cares (or should care) about a random Cambridge dive bar's theme night, lol
Exactly, someone was complaining about that on Twitter, not realizing that this is happening in a dozen cities.
i'm just thinking of the little guy in this case. phoenix landing is an institution and i'm hoping this doesnt harm them.
Maybe AEG could throw a few thousand dollars at the guy who runs it. If it's that small of an event, he'll probably jump at the chance to make some money here. (It doesn't sound like it's promoted by Phoenix Landing, judging from the event's Facebook page. That's simply where it happens. I'm sure they're making their money from bar sales at the event, and the promoter gets the door and pays the talent.)
I don't pay for the Boston Globe, so I couldn't get past the paywall, but it appears that Re:SET is going to open the season at Suffolk Downs, judging from the tweet, which isn't as good as shows kicking off in May or early June.
I'm wondering if we're going to see fewer shows on the calendar for the new venue than we're now assuming. Maybe they're not going to run as many shows as the Pavilion and the usual indoor venues in town.
Nothing earth shattering in the article, but it does go into capacity and future plans at the site:
"The Stage at Suffolk Downs will be able to accommodate up to 8,500 concert-goers on the racetrack’s infield. By comparison, Live Nation’s Leader Bank Pavilion in the Seaport has a capacity of 5,000 while the Xfinity Center in Mansfield can hold nearly 20,000 people. Fenway Park and Gillette Stadium are also planning busy summer concert seasons.
The Bowery Presents has partnered with the HYM Investment Group, the developer that bought the East Boston racetrack in 2017 for $155 million, to create the new open-air venue. Plans for the 161-acre Suffolk Downs site include residential buildings, two retail squares, and a public plaza."

not a huge fan of yet another luxury overdevelopment shitshow but i am excited for the potential of this venue
i’m honestly pissed i discovered this bc now i have a dilemma with which show id rather go to. smaller bands like this sadly tend to fizzle out really fast so i dont want to miss seeing them

This is the sound of every musical artist making up for three lean years by touring as much as possible in 2023. It wasn't that long ago that there'd be nothing that I'd really want to see until springtime, with so many artists avoiding touring in the northeast during winter months, but I'm going to four shows this month and five next month (so far). I don't think that this is going to let up until after Thanksgiving. (Meanwhile, 2024 is going to go down as the Year of the Reunions, as various bands are going to let the touring glut play out this year and grab more attention next year. This is going to encompass everything from full-on reunions to original lead singers rejoining bands. There are a whole lot of 50-75 year old musicians who want one more go-around, even if it's only a cash-grab to set up their kids and grandchildren with some financial security for years to come.)
This article on the Hollywood Bowl's 2023 season gives some indication about who may show up on the waterfront, at the horse track, or halfway to Providence, in the middle of nowhere.
I *really* hope that Fleet Foxes/My Morning Jacket pairing ends up at Suffolk Downs and not in Mansfield, after someone threw themselves onto the Red Line track last September, forcing me to miss MMJ.
Here's a question for those of you who are out in the Boston suburbs and use rideshare services. Is it possible to get a Lyft or Uber from various commuter rail stations and back from suburban locations?
Levitate in Marshfield drops its lineup tomorrow and I'm wondering if it's practical to ride the rail to the last stop of the Scituate line and take a Lyft 7 miles to the festival and then head back to the rail station the same way at the end of the day.

not sure if you’re licensed or not but it may actually be cheaper to rent a car. that being said its possible but expensive
i've ubered from the middle of Walpole back to downtown Boston before. it was like $50 or so after a wedding like 2 summers ago, (around midnight on a saturday in June.) i scheduled it in advance to try to ensure there would be some sort of availability and it seemed to be fine.
i'm sure you could uber from mansfield train station to the xfinity center, just might have a longer wait for a car compared to calling one in Boston... also ubering back to the station would be the real tricky part with how much of a clusterfuck the lots/streets are around that venue after a show. not sure how different that would be for something like Levitate, but it's certainly doable. just depends how willing you are to waste like 2+ hours commuting each way compared to renting a car (or maybe even just ubering to/from the city..?)
edit: i dont know how frequent (or if) they run on weekends, but it looks like theres a SAIL bus (no clue what that even stands for) that runs from the Kingston CR stop to Marshfield about a mile from the festival. goo.gl/maps/f1J3TB1wyy4XbVJM8

Nope, I gave up my license when it came up for renewal this past summer. I drove from the ages of 16-32 and hit a dozen cars during that time, mostly while pulling in or out of parking spaces. My gift to society is never driving again, especially since I now have what they call floaters now in my field of vision. They really don't interfere with my daily life, but I wouldn't drive or operate a vehicle now, between my bad hand-eye coordination and vision.

Thanks to all for the advice. It sounds like getting a rideshare at the end of the night at that festival might be logistically difficult, but I'll check out that SAIL bus schedule and see how that works. If there's anyone on the poster that I really want to see, it might be worth doing a one-day.
Well, we now know why Brandi Carlile isn't performing at P!nk's Fenway shows.
Damn, I was hoping that I wouldn't see a lot that I liked on this poster, so I wouldn't have to figure out how to efficiently get there and back, but I'd love to see Goose and really like to see Brandi Carlile. I doubt that they're doing the same day; Goose is probably going to do Trey day, so they can sit in with each other.

Thanks for the link to SAIL. Sadly, their Mon - Sat runs wrap up by 7 pm and they don't run on Sunday. (Well, I am seeing Goose next month and I while I'd definitely like to see Carlile again, I'd be feeling much worse about this lineup if Wilco, MMJ, or Jason Isbell were on the poster, so I'm taking this as a win.)
Is anyone going to MJ Lenderman tonight? Just made it to the top of the waitlist and picked up a ticket
MJ Lenderman? Is that anything like Lender's Bagels?
They're these frozen bagels that have been around for years. I used to eat them all the time when I was a kid.
You could get them at Harris Teeter, and they were a great snack to enjoy while watching Edge and Christian take on the Hardy Boys in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match, or while watching the Chicago Bulls back in the 90's. They're even good when you eat them on a boat.

i actually like this lineup more than i expected to. i casually like Brandi and TAB (and havent seen TAB before) as well as Ripe, Shakey Graves, and Lucius; and really like Goose, Melt, and John Craigie.
If this was a 2-day festival lineup, i'd probably be buying a 2-day ticket right away tomorrow. The fact that it's 3 days dilutes things a little. (Does that mean Stick Figure is headlining a day? Who tf is Stick Figure?) Assuming they end up selling single-day tickets, I'll buy one for TAB/Goose day for sure. You have to assume TAB and Goose are the same day, and almost certainly the same for Brandi and Lucius. Maybe I'm in for a second day, but it really depends on who's there beyond Brandi/Lucius... if it's 2 out of 3 of Shakey/Melt/Craigie then i'm in.

I looked up Stick Figure. They're a reggae/dub band. I find it hard to believe that they're billed above Ziggy Marley, among reggae artists in the lineup, but I'm sure that they must be popular in that scene to be one of the headliners.

But MJ Lenderman? Nope, never heard of him.
they’d probably be up your alley actually
Well, this is why I'm not earning a living as a stand-up comic.

I guess that short paragraph with allusions to a few tracks on Boat Songs didn't give it away. I got into MJL recently, after rock writer Stephen Hyden talked him up on Twitter.
Given that I hadn't been to an indoor ticketed show since late 2019, I wasn't really sure if I'd go through with going to the show tonight, but I did. It was really good and it felt great to be back at a concert again. (It'll feel even better in a week if I haven't come down with anything by then.)
