So, who wants a free ticket to the Future Teens show at The Sinclair on Sunday night (2/16). I found out that they added a 2nd opening act, which makes it a significantly later night. It's Sunday and they're local, which means I'll probably get more chances to see them live this year.
I really hate it when bands and promoters think they're doing you a favor by adding additional opening acts to a tour or show. When people decide to pick up tickets to shows, they weigh a number of things, including what time it'll likely be ending. Add another act, and you're likely adding another hour, between the additional opener's set and then an additional set break between acts.
If you want the ticket, DM me.
(I actually picked up a ticket to another show, which went from a two-band show to a four-band show. Fortunately, while checking out the openers online, I really liked the 2nd of three opening acts...more than the headliner, actually...so I'm going to go for the first two bands then leave. This works well for me, since I'm going to a much higher priority show the next night.)

Saintseneca. They're decent, but it takes something really great to get me to stay out that late on a weeknight. (FWIW, I checked out Macseal and the other opener, and didn't really like either of them.)

Pretty sure Shallow Pools has been on that bill since the tour got announced.
Also I kinda disagree with your logic. 95% of shows around here end at 11pm. If there's 1 opener or 2, it changes the start time moreso than the end time. There could be 5 openers and Future Teens would still be playing like 9:45-11 (or something like that.)

Shallow Pools? I guess they're doing the local show, but I saw a tweet from Future Teens which listed a different first opener for other dates and I really didn't like them at all.
The start time is 8 pm. so I'm guessing that Future Teens starting any time before 10 pm would be overly optimistic. It's never just the the set length of the openers; it's the stage change between artists that eats up so much time.
Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit just announced for Roadrunner in July. I'm shocked that they're not playing Suffolk Downs. At only 3,500 capacity, I suspect that this is going to sell out very quickly.
I'm surprised that we haven't yet received any announcements about regular tours playing Suffolk Downs. I'm now wondering if they're only going to be doing special events/small festivals there, as opposed to regular tours.
Thompsons Point in portland is teasing a show announcement for today and the hint they gave is that its an artist from Friday of boston calling last year. my guess is either Haim, Avril or Rufus. Given booking patterns id say the former two are more likely

The more I think about it, it's awfully weird that we haven't heard any news about shows at the new venue other than Re:SET Boston (and the poorly obscured venue name from that two-day EDM fest.) So many summer tours of every size have announced and it's not like there are a lot of posters filled with "Boston, Venue To Be Announced" dates.
Like most people, I'm sure, I anticipated that they'd be operating most nights for a late Spring - early Fall run, just like LB Pavilion does. But maybe the plan from the start was just using it for a few special events. If they'd be using it for a total of 30-50 evenings, mostly one-off shows with a few multiple day events mixed in, they'd probably go all in on the facility and use the seated grandstand to up the capacity as well as have regular concession vendors there, just like most regularly used venues have. The fact that this is infield-only with outside food trucks coming in suggests to me that we may be getting a lot fewer events there than we imagined.
The fact that they put Isbell at Roadrunner instead of Suffolk Downs is odd, unless they're using Suffolk Downs for a few special events only. While he may not necessarily sell out the 8,500 capacity venue, Roadrunner's 3,500 capacity seems a bit small for him and they could easily move at least 5K tickets for him. (They can't add a second night at Roadrunner, since he's got dates in other cities on the nights before and after the Boston show.)
To me, this strongly suggests that Suffolk Downs is only going to be used for a few microfests.

"An Evening with Oliver Tree"
funny enough it was the fucking backseat lovers. had no idea they were big enough to play an 8000cap venue

They were fairly early in the day at Boston Calling, if I recall. You've got to hand it to Boston Calling; so often in their history, they've booked artists who became much bigger in a year or two.
Without even announcing it on Twitter, per se, In Between Days posted a general "tickets are available" tweet which contains a lineup graphic that reveals a new lineup addition and it's a band that I want to see more than any of the artists already on the poster.
The Beths, who have sold out two nights at The Sinclair, have been added to the lineup. I understand that they may have been prohibited from announcing them until their local gigs either sold out or already took place, but why bury the lede like this? Shout it from the rooftops.

Actually, they tweeted this earlier in the day. (The downside to Twitter - you see everything in your feed since the last time you checked it in reverse-chronological order.)
personally i think theyre just waiting to announce the other suffolk downs shows til after coachella
What's the reasoning on this? If artists who are playing Coachella have already announced dates throughout North America for this summer, why wouldn't they announce for Suffolk Downs? Sure, Coachella is owned by AEG, but they've got to realize that Boston's about as far from southern California as it gets in the continental U.S. and that neither Coachella nor the Stage at Suffolk Downs are going to effect each other in the least.
AEG similarly runs the concert series at Forest Hills, and they've dropped names beyond Re:SET already.
A lot of people have fixed budgets for things like concerts, entertainment, and recreation, and if you're AEG, do you really want locals to drop their live music dollars on shows at Live Nation venues like MGM Music Hall and Leader Bank Pavilion, when they could be spending their money on shows at Suffolk Downs?
It's also literally the first year of shows there, Forest Hills had only 5 shows its first season as a concert venue in 2014 per setlist.fm. As an outdoor venue they probably have to take things slower with fewer shows at first before getting approval from the locals to do more shows, something indoor venues don't have to consider

They aren't ramping up to anything permanent, though. The property is under both commercial and residential development, and once the luxury condos and apartments open for business, there won't be concerts there.
This seems like a 2-4 year run, at best, so they're wasting the opportunity by not doing a lot this year. Plus, the complete lack of any traditional 2-3 artist shows really doesn't give them the ability to see how suitable the venue is for that sort of thing. All they'll know from what's been announced or leaked so far is how the venue works for touring mini-festivals.
It's always sad to lose a venue, but anytime you open a venue that's not on a subway line, you take your chances. Nobody wants to wait out on Cambridge St. at 1 am hoping to catch that last bus, or for a taxi or rideshare (which is exactly what I'll be doing in a couple of weeks.)
They also weren't particularly savvy at marketing and PR. I only discovered a couple of months ago that they've been booking interesting national and local artists, and I spend way too much time tracking local live music events to miss anything which has even a little nudge of publicity or advertising behind it.

If they do announce traditional headliner/opener shows for this summer, the Big Thief summer tour seems very likely, given the three northeast dates in July, with plenty of time before and after the three shows to add a fourth in Boston.
I'm going for resale closer to the show this time cause they have played the area so much recently. Hopefully below face now that I hear that
I’m making a Sinclair box office stop tomorrow for a ticket, I could get you one too
Thanks for the offer, but I think I'm going to wait until closer to the show? Having seen them already twice, I kinda wanna wait to see if they will have new music
