The conventional wisdom: the reason that The Strokes haven't played Boston is that they only play festivals, except for headlining shows in NYC on occasion, and Boston Calling hasn't actually been able to both book and present them.
Goldstar, that half-price ticket site which usually offers discounts for shows that most of us probably wouldn't bother to see for free, is offering half-price tickets for next week's Kamasi Washington show at City Winery Boston.
The NICE daily lineup & schedule is about to drop.
As I've been working my way through their 129-song Spotify playlist, there are some real gems in the lineup, but also some artists who are very unimpressive. Between not having any repeats from last year and (apparently) not booking any local artists who are also playing Boston Calling or In Between Days this year, that covers a lot of the better local artists.
What they have done this year, though, is added a small handful of rap/R&B artists to the lineup. Modern R&B is generally not my thing if there's not a major 60's-70's throwback vibe to it, but check out l.ucas. They sound like someone who could easily turn into a nationally/internationally touring artist; it's not my cup of tea, but the talent is undeniable.
It appears that ONCE is only doing two shows at Boynton Yards this year, and both are happening on Saturdays when the live music options are plentiful and many of us have already committed to other Boston area or broader New England festival action.
I'm glad that they're doing something there this year, but disappointed that it's only two shows.

Whoa...this is right in the middle of NICE, a fest, but it's probably our last chance to see a living legend, and the band lineup always changes from city to city, and has included members of Wilco, Goose, and Dawes in the last couple of years, so who knows who's along for the ride for the waterfront show.

Nope, despite the fact that the dates appear to fit comfortably into the calendars of all of the above, except for Jeff Tweedy, the band for the three-city run has been announced and it seems like the least impressive Phil & Friends roster of late. I had planned on skipping that day's NICE lineup and going to see PL&F, but now I'm thinking that finally catching Beeef live is the more appealing option.
Still over a month away from Re:set but good to know, and love that it’s over by 10 given how much of a pain it'll be to get home from there
I suppose that this means that when Julien Baker sings the line "listening to Boys Don't Cry," there's little chance that Robert Smith will be singing it at that moment or will have already sung it yet that night, 40 miles to the south.

If, by a pain, you're referring to everybody hopping onto the Blue Line at once, sure, it won't be empty, but the 8,500 venue capacity means it won't be nearly as bad as getting on the subway at North Station or Kenmore after Garden and Fenway events. Heck, the Stage capacity is basically the capacity of House of Blues and MGM Music Hall added together.
My T recommendation is what it's been for the last thirty years - when you get to the platform, don't stand right there, near where the stairs/ecalator/hallway deposited you. Most people do remain near there, so the cars which pull up to those spots are always very crowded. If you move further down the platform at a busy station, half as many people will get onto the car that pulls up there, as opposed to the ones near the stairs or escalator.

Re:SET Boston announced its food vendors and, while nobody was expecting a lot of food vendors for a event that's going to draw a fifth as many people as Boston Calling, there's not a lot of choice available.
While there are going to be a couple of vegetarian, vegan, and healthy choices available, they're really missing the sort of vendor who'll throw rice, quinoa, assorted veggies, tofu or some other plant-based protein (or lean meat) in a bowl or a wrap, as well as not having a Mexican place selling burritos or bowls.
The really odd choice is Pazza on Porter. I checked out their catering menu and it really doesn't seem like the sort of food that fits the setting. Plated red sauce italian dishes, the sort of italian subs that are usually dripping marinara, and pasta. They have some very basic wraps, emphasis upon "basic." This might be great italian food, but it doesn't seem like the sort of food that's easily consumed if you're standing or walking around, without available tables.
Of course, since Boston music fans don't deserve real ice cream, Fomu will be there. There should definitely be a dairy-free choice for the lactose-intolerant and vegan, but there are plenty of local/regional ice cream makers who offer both real ice cream and a dairy-free version. I'm glad that Starbucks, Caffe Nero, etc. offer soy or almond milk as an option, but it would be ridiculous if they only offered soy or almond milk. Same thing applies here.
The mystery Thursday night artist at NICE is Horse Jumper of Love, who played the Paradise last night. I'm unfamiliar with them, but this song sounds decent enough to me. It sounds like some sort of slowcore powerpop thing.
I can't decide which is worse. Finding out that one of your favorite bands is skipping Boston on their upcoming tour (Wilco), or learning that two bands you like almost as much are playing two T stops away from each other on the same night and at the same time (Ted Leo and the Pharmacists and Low Cut Connie).

I, too, am bummed that Ted Leo is the same night as Low Cut Connie... Definitelyyy going to LCC, though. Sorry, TL/Rx.
