I can't decide which is worse. Finding out that one of your favorite bands is skipping Boston on their upcoming tour (Wilco), or learning that two bands you like almost as much are playing two T stops away from each other on the same night and at the same time (Ted Leo and the Pharmacists and Low Cut Connie).
I, too, am bummed that Ted Leo is the same night as Low Cut Connie... Definitelyyy going to LCC, though. Sorry, TL/Rx.
Even though I already have my LCC ticket, it's the reverse for me. Low Cut Connie is so incredibly entertaining, but Ted Leo has so many songs that get to me on an emotional level, in a way that Adam Weiner's songs don't.
Plus, I still regret missing TL/Rx playing my favorite album of theirs, Hearts Of Oak, in its entirety at Brighton Music Hall in 2018 because I opted for the Paul Simon farewell tour at the Garden instead. (John Prine and The Posies were also doing their own shows in town that night. That was ridiculous.)
The funniest TL-related conflict happened years ago when the Paradise was doing shows in their smaller front room alongside shows in their larger main room. One evening, TL/Rx were playing in the main room while Catherine Wheel lead singer Rob Dickinson (yes, he's related to Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson...they're first cousins) performed in the front room. I wound up staying home because it would have felt too weird to have seen one and missed the other one playing immediately next door. The distance between the rooms was roughly the length of the double-wide Tasty Burger booth at Boston Calling.
If it was a Prov show, I could see taking a bus or train down and back, if it wrapped up in time to catch the last bus or train back to Boston and the venue was relatively close to my transportation. I did that for a show at some sort of club/ballroom there years ago.
But anything outside of Prov is a non-starter for me.

Fwiw, it's not far over the city line. And the R Line goes by there. Not sure how late it goes since i've never used RIPTA, but it exists.
Let's hope that the wildfires and wind patterns are kind to us over the course of the next couple of weekends with so many of us spending time outdoors at concerts and other public events.
Thankfully, we haven't gotten it nearly as bad as NY state, with MD/DE/VA/DE expected to get the worst of it shortly.

Thanks, I'll look into it, but I'm only inclined to do a Worcester or Providence show if the bus or train station where I catch that ride back to Boston is within a short walk of the venue. Otherwise, I'm going to be stressing out to the point where I won't really enjoy the show.

I sold my Re:SET three-day pass online. Between the weather forecast, which only looks decent on the day with the weakest lineup (Friday), and the fact that I really only wanted to see Bartees Strange, IDLES, and boygenius, I figured that I'd get some of my money back. I was more interested in checking out the new venue than actually seeing most of the artists.
Meanwhile, the Arlington Porchfest (which actually has more artists I'm interested in seeing) may be rained out on its scheduled day and its rain date.

Sold my LCD ticket a couple weeks ago but looks like my plans for Providence Pride will be rained out too. Haven't ruled out going yet but it's not looking good

Same here. I bought at the original early pricing and I'm getting back around half of what I paid.
As much as the idea of a conflict-free schedule appealed to me, this brought me back to the old City Hall Plaza editions of Boston Calling where there'd be gaps between artists I wanted to see and no options. Only here, you can't leave for a while and grab a bite to eat off-grounds. The prospect of dealing with James Blake and Saturday's parade of DJs didn't appeal to me.
I'm really curious to read people's thoughts about the venue here. With a grass infield and no artificial turf, I'm thinking that Saturday's projected inch of rain will keep things muddy AF on Sunday and that's a deal breaker for me. Turf or bleachers (as in Boston Calling and In Between Days) can make rainy weather more bearable.

This is the risk we all take with any sort of outdoor event, especially when we're spending money on tickets. Regardless of the time of year, there can be extreme conditions on any given day. Months earlier, it feels like a risk worth taking. But when the event rolls around and the thunderclouds roll in, willingness to stand in the rain for hours can diminish.
Deep Cuts is almost certainly my favorite of the new venues in the area that have opened up the last few years. Fun atmosphere, drinks were good (about average prices) and they had pinball tables too!! Bus stop for going south back to Somerville is also right outside the venue which is super convenient. Sound was very good but since I went for a DJ event I have no idea what the mixing is like for a live band event. I hope GTTG or Clear the Floor continues to book stuff there that piques my interest, certainly felt like a better fit for dance/DJ nights than Union Tavern or Cambridge Elks Lodge

Could this be a ten year anniversary Home, Like Noplace Is There tour? here's to hoping... also got a RT from Foxing, who is on their own ten year anniversary tour for The Albatross

it has to be a tour... if there's a big teaser for just a vinyl repress, it's a huge letdown. (that being said, i would also really love a 10yr vinyl repress.) maybe the two dates are one for the tour, one for vinyl release? or US tour / EU tour..? who knows. but it basically HAS to be a tour as part of it.
do we think they're big enough around here to play Roadrunner? i guess it depends on the lineup, but it seems like they're affiliated with Counter Intuitive now who reps a ton of amazing bands (Origami Angel, Oso Oso, Mom Jeans) that would make for a great Roadrunner show. hoping it's not Livenation-affiliated but House of Blues is slightly smaller and might be a better fit if the openers are more unknowns. Just feels like Roadrunner is the frontrunner/best option, but maybe that's just wishful thinking.
Actually, fuck it let's give them a better hometown show - Palladium
i think they are. they headlined that Counter Intuitive fest thing at Big Night Live like a year and a half ago, which admittedly had a stacked lineup and didn't sell out, but also i think Foxing recently headlined Sinclair (maybe last year) so yeah idk apparently i thought they were both way bigger, at least around here
I'm starting to get very annoyed with all these Fall booking conflicts already... I mean, c'mon, there's 5 artists I really really want to go see over just 2 random weekdays at the end of September.
9/7 Low Cut Connie vs Ted Leo 9/26 Matt & Kim vs Janelle Monae vs Jungle 9/27 Kennyhoopla vs Royal Blood 11/18 Deer Tick vs The Hotelier (going to the 11/19 Hotelier show but my friends are all gonna go Saturday without me which hurts)
