I'm hoping for Brown Sabbath to be back. I only caught a few songs at their set in 2015 but saw their full show at Okeechobee this year and had a really fun time.

What we really need is Mac Sabbath!
Haha I can get down to some Frying Pan and Pair a Buns.
Was at their set at Hangout this year while waiting for Alison Wonderland and Snails to play. Think I'll have to pass after seeing that. Just couldnt get into it, though not for trying.
What do we think about Big Sean being on the lineup? New album on the way in Feb. I believe.
That would be a new low. Although he has a couple songs that are guilty pleasures for me.

One of the worst live performances. He's more of a hype man than a performer. He opened for Wiz, back when Woz was good and man it was bad.

Gotcha. I've never seen him live so I was just curious as to whether he was a good live act. He's got a few songs I enjoy but thats really about it.

I'm hoping for Rae Stremmurd as our more mainstream rap act vs Big Sean. I've heard mixed reviews on them, but the more positive reviews make it sound like a good show. Maybe Big Sean has gotten better, but he was barely rapping, just kind of said obnoxious things on stage, and a very flat personality all around when I saw him.

I saw him in 2015 after Dark Sky Paradise's release, and I actually really enjoyed it. That being said, I don't want him at Roo. Would cost Roo too much money and cost us too big of a spot. I'd be way more down for Rae Sremmurd. Their shows are wildly entertaining.

2019 Shows: 4/30 - Vampire Weekend 6/28 - Father John Misty & Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit 9/6 - Cardi B w/ Teyana Taylor 9/28 - Vulfpeck w/ The Fearless Flyers
In better, blacker news: I just realized Solange is playing at the Essence festival in NOLA late June. Which means she's both coming back to the US from Primavera and in the area. Fingers crossed!
2017: 2/24 Twenty One Pilots 4/1 Radiohead 6/7 Glass Animals 9/10 Modest Mouse 9/21 Arcade Fire 9/29 Kings of Leon 10/3 Foster the People 10/17 The xx 10/22 LCD Soundsystem 11/8 Bon Iver
311 made a good album (Transistor)...once. Don't they play the same 15 cities every summer? I always remember seeing a tour announcement from them every summer and they always have the same opening acts (Rebelution, Dirty Heads, Sublime, etc).
If Big Sean takes one of the top three rap slots this year.......
I'm getting worried the lineup is going to be worse than 2016.
Wait, where did Big Sean come from?
he's generally regarded as a bad live performer, and since we are a pessimistic lot we are assuming he'll be the big hip-hop name this year. no rumor or anything beyond that.
i've never seen him live but i did enjoy his last record.

The way this shiz show is working out, we should be so lucky to get Big Sean.
Glad Bonnaroo is getting in on that white-guy-reggae action.
My unpublished draft was "finally Bonnaroo is getting some of that white-boy reggae".
It stands to follow. They were weirdly obsessed with white-guy-soul-funk this year--Allen Stone, Anderson East, Vulfpeck, the Floozies, and more I may not be remembering. It made me think that sound was sweeping college campuses, and maybe it is for all I know.

Yet Cymande played to a mostly empty field.
I don't think it's the sound sweeping college campuses. I feel like the university I attend has had a pretty good mix of what college kids are listening to. Kygo, Future, Logic, Joey Badass, and Chase Rice have played on campus and seem to be creeping to the mainstream.
I don't know if anyone has thrown these bands into the mix, but Rainbow Kitten Surprise out of Boone, NC is on Hangout and Chobee's lineups and they've been gaining momentum with their recent tours. Another awesome fit would be Susto from Charleston. They're opening for the Lumineers on tour this spring and have a dirty feel that would fit in well during those dusty hot mid day tent sets.

Definitely not sweeping college campuses, although Vulfpeck have amassed a decent following among a certain crowd
The issue with Cymande is more that they're not really a major name in the popular narrative of music history. And just that they're not really relevant. There are plenty of people who will get over-the-top excited for The 1975 but have never heard an INXS song, my little sister and her friend are in love with the new Childish album but if they saw Parliament-Funkadelic on a lineup they'd have no idea what that was, and there are countless other similar examples. I wasn't at Charles Bradley's set, but I imagine it was slightly better attended because his success is much more recent.
But also, when you're talking about race, not to open up a can of worms, but a lot of popular "black" music in the world of soul and funk tends to be more progressive (and often gets labeled as R&B) while white artists are still mining what black artists were doing 50 years ago. That's created different sets of expectations for black and white artists and it's why retro black artists like Charles Bradley, Gary Clark Jr., and Leon Bridges attract such a largely white audience. It's an interesting dichotomy to explore. For instance, what would the reaction have been if a modern white artist had put out an album like Childish Gambino's?

To be fair Cymande was early in the day on Sunday AND conflicted with Charles Bradley
