It's pretty obvious, as I've thought about this, that Bonnaroo is aware of the reasons for what happened. It just pisses me off that they started chipping away at late night/set times and adding huge gaps, all while dramatically increasing prices.
2016 needed to happen. I'm glad the message was sent through awful ticket sales that they can't keep taking away from the music, jacking up the price AND throwing a completely uninspired lineup at us...AND sell another 80,000 tickets like every other year.
When Moogfest/Mountain Oasis was still a thing (RIP), about a dozen of us met with a guy from AC Entertainment in 2012 and 2013. It was really cool to hear their side of things.
The lineups were pretty good at that time so we didn't bring it up, kind of regretting that now. We should've been like "KEEP GOOD LINEUPS, K THX."
And now I'm sad I found the schedule from Moog 2012 yesterday and damn, I saw some amazing shows. My schedule was packed full but looking back now so many of those weren't even on my radar then.
Same thing happened to me when I was contrasting the '06 and '11 schedules to '16. There is such a noticeable drop-off that, seeing them together out of context you might not even think that '16 was the same festival. It's really almost shocking how much they have deviated from their winning formula.
It's what I'm going to be on. We tell them how to fix Bonnaroo. (with Bob Seger)
The new toilets in Centeroo seem fine, GREAT even. but they are only one area of the site, meaning there is much more porta use than new toilet use. The shortsightedness of cutting back on portas and volunteers at the sites was obvious - and ridiculous - let alone if you were out with the fray camping. There is NO problem with having increased women's bathrooms - but at a festival with a high male population, do not restrict the amount of portas. It's all numbers, and they f'd up that math problem real bad. It was terrifying the condition of male bathrooms by day 2 some places out in the Farm.
I am female and encountered similar issues. The porta situation was untenable out in GA camping. I may be female, but I can't walk forever in the morning to get to flushable toilets or permanent bathrooms. When it's time for the morning bathroom run, I need to be able to use the closest portas. This year I could not because in the mornings they were piled above the seat and overflowing out onto the ground. Bad math, Roo...
Okay, it took three tries but I finally got a version of the survey that asked about who I wanted for headliner/undercard and where the festival went wrong.
The main points that I wanted to get across were that, compared to the tenth Bonnaroo, the fifteenth Bonnaroo started an hour and twenty-four minutes later (12:37 vs 2:01), sets were six minutes shorter even with half-hour Sonic Stage sets factored in for '11 (63 minutes vs 57 minutes) and Late Nights ended an hour earlier (3:57 vs 2:57). All this while increasing the cost 86% ($224.50 vs $334.50 for the first tier) plus adding parking/camping charges.
I also added that asking attendees to dump water was not in keeping with their greening initiatives.
I don't think that they'll be reaching out to add me to their focus group...
I finally got an email about the focus group. I have a phone call this afternoon. Will report back

You have time to do this while you're preparing all the Draft shenanigans?!?
In all seriousness, I'm interested to hear what you report back and if it has anything to do with the artists they choose to play Bonnaroo or just more nonsense about non-music activities and groups and other words they can substitute two o's for.

Me too. Quite honestly, the fact that it's taken them eleven months to get around to this so-called "focus group" really seems to indicate to me the level of concern that they have.

Maybe after seeing 2 years of lackluster sales (Assuming at this point they basically know how many are attending this year), they're finally starting to care? I mean, Bonnaroo's never really been the fastest for change, right? I'm just upset I didn't get to experience those 2006-2012 lineups because I was on the west coast. Though I did get some awesome Coachellas!

Crazy it has been that long. I am not very optimistic about what the results of this will be, but I am very interested. Can't wait for your breakdown.
Based on the text of the evite that I received, I'm not optimistic:
Dear Chris,
We're conducting a focus group survey this week and we randomly selected YOU as an eligible participant. Don't you feel special!?
We hope you do, because this is your chance to help us make some informed decisions about the future of Bonnaroo. We care about what fans like you think, and we want to hear your voice.
The survey will only take 1-5 minutes to complete over the phone (can't wait to hear that beautiful voice 😉) and will be conducted on Wednesday May 3, 2017 sometime between 2pm-5pm CST. If you would like to participate in the survey, please sign up via the link below by 11:59pm CST on Tuesday May 2, 2017.

I'm glad you have another day since we didn't get the schedule today. That will surely give you more to criticize.
Don't you think that's actually more likely to make me optimistic? I mean, when you look at exactly what the options are in schedule format it can get pretty bleak...

I dont get why a bleak feeling post schedule drop will make you more optimistic

Sorry, I meant that the absence of a schedule would make me more optimistic. I can see how my post was not clear.

My answer was - any weekend on June - doesn't matter to me really. I don't want Memorial Day because that is just a cluster f.
Lineups do matter! I want Bonnaroo to get back to lineups with acts that are worth traveling for. One-offs, special performances, across all genres. Also - late nights past 230-3am.
As for changes - this is the least important for me. I said late night drum and bass is fun for people that like it. I don't. Point that stage not directly at the rest of us who may not want to hear sunrise EDM.
Focused around moving the festival to another weekend: memorial weekend, first in June, third in June.
Also, how much do lineups decide where you go? Do you consider other festivals dependent on lineups?
Lastly, what changes do you want for the grounds, either centeroo or the campgrounds?
I got them in a different order but the same questions.
I said first weekend. Really, the earlier the better but I ruled out Memorial due to the travel issues
I actually said that other festivals' lineups wasn't terribly important to me. My reasoning is, if Bonnaroo has a crappy lineup but so does everybody else, why does that make my attendance at Bonnaroo more important.
I was actually asked what activity or change would I want the festival to make. (A little different from what you got, oddly.) I told them that I wanted them to return to having longer sets.
Frankly, the "survey" was more underwhelming than I expected. Two of the three questions had fixed answers and the third one was so vague (and possibly varied) that they are unlikely to receive any consistent responses.
It's too bad that this festival continually fails to take take a critical eye to their failures and seems to be looking for excuses (the date, other festivals) rather than reasons.
