they were 12th at Hangout in 2015. I feel like they would be around 8-10 still. Prob close a side stage.
I wouldn't be opposed to them on the Backyard Stage as a pre-headliner. Those pre-headlining sets on the backyard stage are usually some of my favorite shows of the weekend too.
I'd assume Phantogram would be too high on the lineup to be the Thursday night closer, correct?
I don't think they will be, but they will be right around that billing area. IIRC the past three years in a row the Thursday night headliner has been e 16th billed act.

Yep, it has been right around the 16th or so act the past 3 years.

Being bored was checking out Okeechobee, Mountain Jam, Hangout and other lineups to see what could end up at Firefly. Last year, only 2 acts were shared between Firefly and Primavera (from what I can see) so I basically eliminated anybody from that lineup. I also tried to eliminate anybody that was at Firefly last year. Also tried to hold to the "pop vibe" and I don't think Firefly gets all of them but just a list. I didn't check all their tour dates so feel free to cross any off that definitely won't be there.
Possibilities (in no order): Bassnectar The Lumineers Marshmello Flume Young the Giant Cold War Kids Blood Orange Bleachers Sleigh Bells Twenty One Pilots Chance the Rapper Weezer Band of Horses The Shins Dawes The Head and the Heart Franz Ferdinand Matoma MGMT Mutemath Gary Clark Jr. Michael Franti & Spearhead The Strumbellas Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Joseph Rainbow Kitten Surprise

Looks like we shared Tame, Vince Staples, and Chairlift with Primavera last year, and maybe a couple more that I missed. Here is to hoping FF can get The XX, Tycho, Local Natives, and a few others for 2017.

Just curious, is there any evidence to the Twenty One Pilots headlining Firefly outside of "Random girl on Facebook with deleted post" and "OMG 21P headlining this and playing for the 3rd time is sooooo Firefly"?

Yea nothing concrete it just seemed to make a lot of sense. Btw... was there ever a reason it couldn't be The Weeknd? Not sure that we've ever shared a headliner with Roo in the same year but... Muse - Weeknd - 21P? I hope not but yikes.

I don't think Weeknd was necessarily ruled out so it's totally possible. Kendrick and The Weeknd are both totally plausible outside of the "Firefly hasn't had a hip hop or pop headliner outside of Outkast".
With all the modern day rock bands that have been ruled out, I really think Firefly goes back and books a legacy act this year. Pearl Jam, Elton John or Tom Petty P.2 make the most sense to me. Rolling Stones and Fleetwood are farfetched but not impossible.
The weeknd - twenty one pilots - red hot chili peppers
If we don't get Muse I could see something like this... except I'm not sure what they'd be selling the every year Firefly folks. The Weeknd as the only new headliner? That doesn't sit right.
i think the offspring in the blink 182 spot from last year would be a lot of fun
I would hope they wouldn't get billed quite that high. I thought their show I saw last year was kind of uninspiring. Not bad, but you could have just blasted their songs on the speakers and the show wouldn't have been much different.

They have a relationship with the festival and this year would fit the every other year thing they've been doing with firefly. So it makes sense to say they're headlining. Weather it's happening though is still up for debate.

Does anyone else feel is year is really hard to predict? I enjoy making mocks so here's my two cents. I have a feeling there's going to be less big name EDM, but more big name Hip Hop. Based off that's just who appears to be going out this summer.
BEYONCE . MUSE . TWENTY ONE PILOTS. BASSNECTAR CHANCE THE RAPPER OR FRANK OCEAN . THE CHAINSMOKERS . WEEZER .PARAMORE . SIGUR ROS . CHILDISH GAMBINO . RUN THE JEWELS . DJ SNAKE . YOUNG THE GIANT . THE HEAD AND THE HEART . PHANTOGRAM . PASSENGER . DE LA SOUL . THE STRUMBELLAS . MICHAEL KIWANUKA . JIMMY EAT WORLD . MADEON . CAPITAL CITIES . DESIIGNER . DROPKICK MURPHYS . VIC MENSA
i don't think I want all of these, and I'd like to emphasize the or on chance or frank, but I think this is kind of realistic, (really want SIGUR ROS).
he/they '12 - Firefly '13 - Firefly, Made In America '14 - Firefly, Made In America '15 - Mountain Jam (Sunday), Firefly, Pitchfork, Made In America '16 - Boston Calling, Firefly, Osheaga, Made In America, Roots Picnic NYC '17 - Boston Calling, Gov Ball, Firefly (Sunday), Pitchfork, Day For Night '18 - Boston Calling, Mountain Jam, Osheaga '19 - Form, Firefly (Sunday) '22 - Boston Calling, Firefly '24 - Solid Sound, Soundside

first off, frank is almost completely out, so lets call it Chance. second, i really doubt its Bey. we honestly have no reason to think she'll play this. other than that everything feels pretty realistic and i would def be less excited than i was last year.
I feel like the Muse-Tom Petty-Twenty One Pilots that was put on Reddit a few days ago is extremely logical. If we are going to throw an EDM act as a 4th headliner then Skrillex or Bassnectar.

Perhaps Tom Petty makes the most sense after all. 2013 was still kind of an in between year from what Firefly is now. RHCP just may not have agreed to come back if they were the first choice.
Muse - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers - 21P - Skrillex
EDIT: great minds think alike, exactly what nolefromde said lol.
I think Skrillex makes more sense than Nectar simply because Skrillex hasn't been here yet, and 2 repeat headliners is bad enough.
Fri- Muse Sat- 21P and Skrillex Sun- Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
Tom Petty is the Fri headliner for Mountain Jam in this case. This just seems to work well.
ya im gonna continue to ride the Petty train. never seen him and would round out the top 3 nicely.
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers- Muse - Twenty One Pilots Chance The Rapper - Pretty Lights (W Live Band) - The Lumineers - Weezer Flume - Schoolboy Q - MGMT - Sigur Ros - Foals - Mac Demarco - Griz - Sleigh Bells
Don't forget Phantogram, Paramore, ZHU, and Alessia Cara.
