I forget has Soundgarden been brought up as a potential headliner? They fit the target demographic perfectly, and they're doing the circuit this summer. something like Muse/Soundgarden/ 21 Pilots/Chance makes sense to me. That shouldn't ruffle any feathers, it's not particularly inspired, but I'd be down with 3 of the 4 of those.
in what world does Soundgarden fit this demo?
In the same world that Pearl Jam is begged for year after year.
he/they '12 - Firefly '13 - Firefly, Made In America '14 - Firefly, Made In America '15 - Mountain Jam (Sunday), Firefly, Pitchfork, Made In America '16 - Boston Calling, Firefly, Osheaga, Made In America, Roots Picnic NYC '17 - Boston Calling, Gov Ball, Firefly (Sunday), Pitchfork, Day For Night '18 - Boston Calling, Mountain Jam, Osheaga '19 - Form, Firefly (Sunday) '22 - Boston Calling, Firefly '24 - Solid Sound, Soundside
Marshmello is coming for us all - nothing we can do but accept it.
U2's booking fee murdered their undercard. Makes me rethink if I really want the Pearl Jam dream to come through.
Think I'd rather have a robust group of acts between the 2-6 lines with acts like Pixies/NewOrder/QOTSA/LiamGal/Haim/Offspring/SigurRos/Shins/Phoenix than a super flashy #1.
Best theoretical best case scenario top two I can think of. Yikes three repeats as headliners though.
given the lineups that are coming out - I'll take this right now.
I'm starting to get a little nervous about Muse though. We're giving them the number 1 spot solely because of that one Matt Belemey interview. We know they are confirmed for Lollapalooza, but that's in early August which is 6 weeks before Firefly, and outside of Summerfest there really aren't any unreleased festivals that can bridge the gap between them.
It may be more realistic for that "run of festivals in the US or Canada" to be Wayhome>Osheaga>Lolla>Outside Lands.

The real question is can this be worse than Bonnaroos lineup? And if so, will it not matter because it's 3 hours from about 5 major metropolitan areas?
Did roo really think U2 would make up for the rest of that? I mean, if it were Hangout or something it would be pretty good, but that's just trash for Bonnaroo. This does not give me great feels about what we're gonna see next week.

There is another small nugget of info that hinted at FF having Muse. When they sent out those postcards to some people that have been going to the fest for all 5-years (I think that was the reason). Somebody posted to reddit or facebook the postcard they received and it said something along the lines of, "...and we'll work on getting Muse there for you this year "
So while not anything official, lends a bit more weight to the rumor.
Muse - 21P - Phoenix - Chance - Skrillex - Lorde - The xx - Odesza
This would get ridiculed. Sorry but in order to justify TØP & Phoenix at an AEG Festival this size your 2/3 you would need a Fleetwood/Stones/Waters/PJ caliber #1 or a reallllllly deep undercard.

I'm mentally preparing for Muse - 21P- The Weeknd. That would be worst case scenario I think. Only because I'm not sure there's anyone else that would be the #1 without it being hinted at somewhere by now.

Never hurts to be 90 mins from Philly, less than 2 hours from DC/Baltimore and less than 3 hours from NYC.

I think your expectations are way too high. I'm fully expecting the top 6 of this to be Muse-21p-Chance the Rapper-Phoenix-The XX-Lorde. Maybe swap out one for some edm crap like DJ Snake/Major Lazer/Marshmello.

True, but every major festival up to this point has an exclusive:
Coach - Beyonce Hangout - Frank Ocean's 1st Show Roo - U2 Gov Ball - Tool Panorama - Nine Inch Nails Firefly - ???
I don't think "Muse's first of many US festival shows from a 2 year old album" matches up to that. I think they have something up their sleeve.

those expectations are too high. that would be a really solid top 6.

you are way off. This would sell out FF. Fests are tanking on lineups and going for what sells.

I think it depends on the undercard. If the undercard looks like Roos, then yes. If it looks like Gov Balls? It would be well received
