Third Eye Blind is touring with Silversun Pickups - the gap in these dates around Firefly would make sense for one of or both of them:
June 16 - Charlotte, NC - Charlotte Metro Credit Union Amphitheatre June 17 - Raleigh, NC - Red Hat Amphitheater June 21 - Boston, MA - Blue Hills Bank Pavilion
I saw a post on that facebook fan page that showed they have shows on the 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th which would eliminate them for this year. Third Eye Blind is awful so I'd consider that a good thing so far.

Third Eye Blind is playing amphitheaters? who woulda thought they'd still be able to get 15-20 thousand to come to them headlining a show

Jesus H. Christ, I hope not. On second thought, I think these dates make them unlikely. The only day they could play is Sunday, and playing a show in Dover after shows on consecutive days in Charlotte and Raleigh doesn't seem very likely.

Oh I don't want them there either (SSPU is cool though). But it's interesting on their FB page, the 18th says TBD... just saying.
3eb's firefly set was awful, but i've seen them before and they've been great.. plus they're doing their first album, so that has some draw i guess
I saw them for $10 at SUNY Albany when I was in grad school back in 2010. It was easily the worst show I've ever attended. I actually felt bad for the singer.
Apparently the Red Frog team is in Arizona at a dude ranch on their annual retreat right now. Not a ping pong tournament but hey. At least they're having a good time.

I felt the same way about their set at Firefly 2014.

I get that everyone needs a vacation and a break from work, but these guys need to be a little self aware and not post that the whole operation is shut down during a time when fans are worried about a lack of a lineup (probably unreasonably). It's like Odell going down to Miami before the playoffs.

Granted I know RedFrog does other things besides Firefly but it seems like a weird time to take a vacation. You'd think the dates around when the lineup comes out and tickets go on sale for 80,000 people you'd want your staff around.

Yeah weird time to be doing that
Seems like they take company retreats prior to lineup releases as they go full steam ahead from lineup release -> festival.

Don't feel bad for him, Stephan is the reason why they've gone through so many guitarists and bass players. And this is coming from someone who's seen them nine times. Firefly 14' aside those shows were all 09' or earlier.
How did we go from guesses of Tom Petty/RHCP/Beyonce to ZBB?
I know the tour dates make it seem possible. But ZBB band is not headlining Firefly, I will eat my shoe if that happens.
Red Frog had to shut down a country festival they ran at the same location because of a lack of interest. I don't think a country band has ever even played at Firefly let alone headlined. Contrary to some of the PR moves of Red Frog, I think they actually enjoy still running a successful festival.
Also, I'm pretty sure Firefly prefers to be mentioned with the likes of Coachella, Roo, Panorama, and Outside Lands over the Houston Livestock Festival and Southern Ground Music and Food Festival - which Zac Brown Band is currently slated to headline.

Just to play devil's advocate.. Sturgill Simpson in 2014 (certainly didn't headline though). And I only know that because I thought to myself what the F is this guy doing here when he's playing Big Barrel the following weekend.
PS I had a good laugh with the last part of that comment.. Houston Livestock Festival lol.

Dude will be a headliner one day. I can't wait to see him at Chobee.

Sturgill Simpson is definitely an outlier. He has serious crossover appeal into the non-country crowd largely because of his lyrical content.

If we can't get the lineup is it too much to ask to just get a Pearl Jam 25th Anniversary Summer Tour announcement with a big fat gap on the east coast from June 13th to June 20th

I'm assuming you're referring to Turtles All The Way Down.

Yes.

Devils advocate time. Wikipedia listes ZBB as country (obviously), southern rock, country rock, folk rock, jam band, pop country. For better or for worse, they are all of these things.
Not a big country fan, but I do like ZBB. I never listen to them live, but they put on an incredible live show. Firefly has been booking acts in around their genre for a while now.
Here's a few names from my limited country knowledge:

2015: Sturgill Simpson (country, country soul) - billed decently high
2016: Elle King (country, soul) - billed 35
No country/folk acts have headlined yet, but Outkast was an abrupt first as well.
So,
(Bieber confirmed)
Love the research. But I respectfully disagree - folk and country just feel like night and day to me, and if you bridge those together, then we're getting down a slippery slope.
Trampled By Turtles, Edward Sharpe, Alabama Shakes, and Shakey Graves are all indie-rock or alt-rock with folk or southern elements. Mumford and the Lumineers are folk bands as well. Hell, Kings of Leon is an alt rock band with southern elements. Elle King's top hit is a pop song, plain and simple. Nathaniel Rateliff belongs on here as well then.
My point is, take ANY of those bands music, and compare it to ZBB's top hit, Chicken Fried, and man are we getting into 2 very different categories.
