Am I missing something in regard to Chance? I just can't get into it...besides his feature on Ultralight Beam I've yet to find anything I enjoy...any suggestions? Coloring Book doesn't sound like something that's going to be easily recreated live due to all the features and midtempo tracks.
Besides Acid Rap and UB what has he done to earn a headlining spot? Looking at his most recent tour it looks to be 5-7k seat venues and only a handful looked to be sellouts.
Can someone point me towards something that drove his popularity? I'm honestly just not getting it. He hasn't even charted a true hit single yet. What else should I listen to from him to get ready for his set?
I think a lot of his appeal is with the "Generation Z" kids. Neither of my boys, both of whom like him, are big fans ("Gen Y" kids) . But my daughter and all her friends love him. None of them typically listen to pop, and I think the independent aspects of what Chance is and the fact that he made his mark by releasing his stuff, showing up at festivals and camping with the crowds and also being featured in 2014/15 as a special guest at some of the festivals he went to scored a lot of points. Also being a party animal helps that generation because they go pretty wild. They all loved Coloring Book despite the Gospel and other random influences not often seen in young rappers bragging about money/exploits/hoes/whatever. I guess it's the honesty of what is being portrayed vs. some fake b.s. that permeates so much younger hip hop today.
I'm totally okay with this if Green Day runs through all of Dookie or Kerpluk during their set, they typically do when they headline a fest. I think they'd definitely get a better reception than Blink.
This makes more sense than the other ones, but by all accounts, The E-Street Band is taking a break after they finish the Australia + New Zealand tour.
I love Bruce and have seen him a ton, but I left him off because theres no way he plays. They're shutting it down after Australia and taking a break. They don't just play a show cold, and they aren't getting back for rehearsals for a Firefly set.
And Billy Joel would be cool. Bon Jovi eh I'd be really drunk and it could be fun.

the fact that they're waiting till friday, when they easily could of ridden the momentum of the zoom contest and revealed on tuesday really has me thinking that their will be a 4th that they needed a little extra time to lock down. i also really dont see them giving chance 1.5 hours unopposed.

I get it now.
For sure. To elaborate a bit, they look at Chance as being one of them rather than being some elitist dick.

To add to what esteban said; Chance is a very strong live performer (saw him in fall 2014) and does come across as genuine/sincere.
That said, I also fail to see what makes Chance's music so great. A lot of it just bores me; modern-day mumble/autotune rap may be ridiculous, but it at least elicits a strong reaction (whether positive or negative) rather than mediocrity.

100% agree.
If you presume that 4th headliner was probably created to add somebody who has shot up in popularity (not in the rock genre) quickly and use that popularity to move tickets to their younger fans, then Chance make so much sense their.

exactly. he has the popularity to be top 3, but i think Firefly would much rather put him in the deadmau5 spot and throw a tiny jam band and a small edm artist against him LN.

MikeG doesn't know what the lineup is. It was speculation on his part that Firefly didn't book Beyoncé. Correct me if I'm wrong here. That said I honestly hope Bey doesn't blow up our talent budget. That's not the type of headliner I'd do that for.
Muse - 21 Pilots - Chance the Rapper - The Chainsmokers Lorde - Weezer - Travis Scott - Martin Garrix - Sigur Ros - Glass Animals
if we get sigur ros, that will make me forget about 21p
going off previous year lineups FF and HOF dont share a lot of talent. Last year it was Florence and Ellie in top three lines. If that's any indication then yall could count on having 21p and Weezer. maybe even get the major again since music is the weapon is bout to drop and be HUUUGe!
