Launchpad or someone who has more experience than me probably knows better, but is this the first time an artist on a LiveNation tour (as the Weeknd is this spring) is headlining an AEG festival or vice versa? Just running through all the headliners at Coachella, Gov Ball, Hangout, etc. in my head, I think all are either just doing fests or on a tour with the company promoting the fest they are doing.
Makes me think they were really going after Beyonce hard and something dropped at the last minute and they had to grovel to LN to get either RHCP or The Weeknd at the last minute.
Weeknd's tour isn't a LiveNation exclusive. He is playing both AEG and LiveNation venues. Sometimes artists do get locked into deals like that; but Weeknd isn't.
JI hope not - just make Phantogram the Thursday night headliner. Let them shine and kill it and keep the 3 weekend days as full as you can with your 5 headliners.

This fest is butt now but I do give it thanks for bringing me here and making me a music festival fan.
Same - Firefly was my gateway to music festival and I appreciate it for that. I'll be there this year for at least Muse day, and maybe 2 if it breaks right.
As bad as he is live these days, I do credit them for booking Dylan. He's not really bringing in any extra sales, but it's a mea culpa for the rest of the lineup. The type of head nod Bonnaroo didn't even bother with this year.
It's like a husband bringing back flowers the day after he stays out light and mistakes the closet for the bathroom at 4am when the Uber drops him off. The gesture is pointless, and can't really erase the damage, but it's kind of like a wink that says "I know babe but I'm trying". Even if you know they're not trying.

HaIt's a good point. They could have just slapped The Weeknd on top and pocketed the Dylan booking fee money.
Still...you couldn't pick up the phone and call LCD?
Conspiracy theory: Goldenvoice purposefully booked this so bad to get more people to Panorama.
I don't think it's a conspiracy but I think there is something really too it. Panorama has become the grown-up festival/music snob fest to a degree. So they'll rather fully lean in on Firefly being a pop-fest and try to steal some of Gov Ball's audience.

Bonnaroo managed to convince The XX to come back in the middle of their European tour to apparently do 1 show (Firefly couldn't be bothered I guess, even though they are open that weekend) and they fit this lineup a hell of a lot better than Dylan does.

There's enough alternative music fans in NYC to support a day fest topped by NIN, Frank Ocean, ATCQ, and Solange.
You're gonna need The Weeknd, 21 Pilots, Flume, etc. to convince the kids to camp for 4 days in Delaware.
Panorama and FYF are for the grown up music nerds in NYC and LA, Hangout is for the college kids to go crazy in Alabama, Firefly is for the kids to camp on the east coast and take share from 'Roo, Coachella does a bit of everything (legacy still appealing to music geeks, but needing some garbage to still move 200k tix)

Panorama didn't seem to have a ton of support from those fans last year
Besides Macca in 2015, I don't see how this is any different (or worse) than what this festival has put out.
It's always been an alt-rock festival with some nostalgia thrown in at it's heart.
Muse, The Shins, Weezer, Bob Dylan. That's what Firefly built it's brand on.
The Weeknd at Number 1 is insane and quite frankly, it was really dumb. I understand it was probably a last minute scramble, but it's reallyyyyy going to piss off a lot of the dedicated fan base of people.

Just look at 2014. For my taste, the top lines are much better and then the bottom of the lineup actually contains bands I've heard of. Hell, two of this year's headliners are on line 5 of 2014.
Obviously leaving some out but this is about 18 acts I'd really want to check out, FF has like 9 for me. This is an awesome weekend of music, I remember seeing people underwhelmed by this lineup but it's quickly become my favorite. I'd say depending where you live to hold out for WH the lineup, it will feature alot of crossover with Panorama, has camping, and the exchange rate helps us out a bit with the cost of traveling up there.
