The kid from Alice (Philip McKeon) died today. He was 55. I had no idea his sister was Jo from the Facts of Life.
BTW, it's possible that you and I are the only two here who remember Alice.
Or the Facts of Life. My brother told me this story about the Facts of Life song being stuck in his head and singing it at work. His co-worker thought it was a new song he was working on (he sing and plays guitar at local bars/fests). I almost died.

I've gleaned a lot from his teachings for several years now - in fact I just started listening to some of his talks again last week. He's one of the most distinctly human teachers I've come across; in the lecture I was listening to Friday he made a point of saying that spiritual practice does nothing for constructing a better ego, and that after 25 years of exploring and meditating and engaging in various spiritual practices, he hadn't gotten rid of one single neurosis. Pretty powerful, given that most people feel called towards the spiritual life because deep down they want to fix something they feel is broken or imperfect. He opened my eyes to what a guru actually is, and had many stories to share about his guru Maharaj-ji - a favorite quote: "When he wanted to admonish me, he called me clever. When he wanted to praise me, he called me simple." Good pointers! It really all does boil down to being here now...
RIP to 5th Ward Weebie on his early death apparently due to kidney issues. The one time I saw the King of Bounce, he was doing a G-Rated performance, and I didn't know those lyrics. Let me find out...RIP

Rush was one of the first shows I ever saw. Me and my brother loved them and playing Tom Sawyer on Rock Band and Rush was one of the biggest inspirations to us. When we started playing actual instruments, my brother learned the Tom Sawyer drum solo and it was so fuckin sick. Moving Pictures was also the first record I ever got. I really wish I could’ve seen them again.

Rush was my first favorite band. Before I discovered them as a young 'un, I was a casual consumer of music. Then, I listened to my cassette copy of Fly By Night so much that I literally wore it out. I only managed to see them live once, but what an epic show. And Neil was the entire foundation of the thing. Even people who don't like Rush had to acknowledge his greatness. Christ, what a legend.
This sucks. I guess the one comfort is that he can be said to have left behind an incredible legacy.
I also guess I'm going to go home tonight, pour myself a whiskey, and throw on all the Rush vinyl I own.
