All this does, is reminds me that we are all getting older, which means our idols are getting older, and that we will just see more and more death due to the fact.
i've been saying that ever since Bowie died... I'm not ready to think about all the greats that are getting older and entering that final stage of life. I think this is also why Prince's death was so hard for me, I've been prepping for my legends in their 70s not someone in their 50s. Still not over that....
Jonathan Demme, Silence of the Lambs director died today at 73. The cause was esophageal cancer and complications from heart disease, according to a source close to the family.
edit - not to lol, but saw this from an NPR article right after posting that...
"Jonathan Demme may be best remembered for directing The Silence of the Lambs and Philadelphia, but in the following breath Stop Making Sense will no doubt follow."
Some Colonels, yeah. This was Bruce Hampton. I saw an article where he "passed out" at the end of his 70th birthday party show with a ton of stars playing. I was messing with Solidrock and didn't realize until emoney posted the "Jesus" reply that he actually died. A.R.U. was a pretty great act all the way back from the early days of Jam as that scene coalesced down there in Georgia.
It's been FIVE years already since MCA passed. Listen to at least two Beastie Boys songs if you can tonight.
Man, I've been listening to their discography in chronological order this whole week on the trip to work. I didn't even realize that anniversary was coming up. I still think Licensed To Ill was the hypest, but Check Your Head is a lot better than Paul's Boutique. Ill Communication and The Mix Up are the only ones I care to listen to afterwards.

L2I and Paul's Boutique are sort of their "practice" records to me. CYH was them mastering their multiple distinct styles and maturing as artists. That one has the hip hop classics, even more sometimes-clever/sometimes-introspective lyrics, as well as those chilled-out-funk-vibish songs that are great to smoke to. Ill Communication is pretty similar.
