^^Basically Potent and Thor seem to be more active than usual, while Viking and Rummy less active than usual.
Everyone else seems to be playing about how they normally play so far; some more annoying than others...
re: me, how do you figure? This is my 8th post this game. In the last game, at a comparable point of the end of the first runoff (Mafia 92 for reference) I had somewhere around 12 posts.
This is just inaccurate.
How many separate votes have you made so far this game?

Additionally, you finished Day 1 of Mafia 92in 3rd place in post count. That was your highest ever (excluding Mafia 78, 2nd place, and tying Mafia 85, also 3rd place).
I have post count averages for every player back to Mafia 72. Going into this game, based on player average, you fell into 9th place, so currently being in 5th is a unexpected jump.
Id stick to volume of posts instead of where people fall relative to each other. Every game is different, and there are always unique circumstances like holiday weekends. I just looked and apparently I have second most posts so far, but that's also due largely in part to me remaining active and many players disappearing due to the holiday.
I'd personally be wary of someone like Viking being so quiet over the weekend but at the same time it's pretty plausible that someone may not be very invested in a Mafia game over July 4 weekend.

Good to know, I appreciate and respect the research.
WLViking in re my vote for you: you're a big talker, which makes me wary because of your tendency to obfuscate. While you're not a player that I see cracking under pressure, it can be worth seeing who doesn't want to vote for you and who does.
You said yourself that you tend to find yourself in D1 runoffs often - and you admit that it's because of the way you play. I'm just helping you make the bed for you to lay in.
As for my absence - like I said, I'm usually exceptionally quiet Day 1, and life has been quite busy the past several days. I agree with your assessment of Talkers/Watchers though and how the Mafia might be split. Though generally you're the player I trust the least from game to game so I'm not paying you much mind just yet.
Valid assumptions on pretty much all counts Jaz, although it probably helped that I sent you a PM a few weeks back that said exactly those in it. I shall lay in any bed, be it a rock or feather and wake up bright eyed and bushy tailed in the morning. You reasoning was correct.
However, interesting that you said you were going to make a bed for me. Just an odd turn of phrase since it seems like you are intending to trap me...
Checking back in, I don't see any reason to move my vote right now. Not suspicious of SFA but no sense in moving right now. After an initial read I would say I am most suspicious of Viking at the moment. His comment about Kdogg weaseling his was out of the runoff earlier doesn't sit right considering Viking has his vote on Kdogg earlier in the game, then moved to SFA. If you wanted Kdogg in there or thought it was strange he wouldn't be in the runoff at that time why didn't you move your vote? As it stands now though Kdogg is back in the runoff with Vikings vote about to reset along with mine. I am sure there will be more I see after another read.
Oh trust me, I wanted KDogg back in it and would have moved this morning. I just didn't want to make the change without putting my thoughts out there. And I didn't move my vote for the same reason you didn't move yours. It would have been counterproductive when I came back and found him already back in the runoff.
So my question back to you would be why is it suspicious for me to vote for SFA and not move back to KDogg after you voted for SFA even though you are saying "he is not suspicious" and I have clearly stated I find him to be a bit suspect? I find your timing especially curious after I outlined why I am a bit suspicious of SFA, so you obviously have been watching the game. IMO your post is a lot more suspicious than me not changing a vote without an explanation (which I never do) and then later not changing a vote to directly kill someone at the last minute. And you are suspicious of me voting for SFA who I also have reservations about. Me thinks you are stretching a bit Mike D and it makes me curious as to what you are hiding with your silence.
I normally don't like to wade into the post count zone until the end of Day 1, but the cat is out of the bag since Danbob posted some mid-day numbers. I normally like to see how the post counts look without knowing that players have reacted to an earlier post count that gets posted mid-day. This helps me a bit knowing players weren't influenced to post more by someone calling them out.
I did, however, find that this game would be unique compared to most game since we have a lot of "talkers" playing. Normally, we have 1 or 2 talkers and the rest fall on the average or quiet side. When the game started, I mentally grouped players into categories based on how active they play in Mafia.
Consistent Talker Kdogg Rummy SFA Viking ZIG
Average Talkers: Carini Jaz Potent Thor
Consistent Watcher Mike D
Unknown / Noob Danbob (I assumed he would be a talker based on his heavy input on the boards in a relatively short period of time, and I think that was a correct assessment).
Viking, I find your list interesting because when I bump it up against how I expected players to contribute, there are some noticeable differences.
Yeap. I did as well. However, as I said previously, giving a pass given that it was a holiday weekend. Hell, I believe Mike D slept through a guess submission as inspector 2 years ago when I was ref during a 4th of July weekend. Not throwing out the data, but it is of less value (to me at least) than normal.
Checking back in, I don't see any reason to move my vote right now. Not suspicious of SFA but no sense in moving right now. First, your vote could have been for SFA or anyone else, being specifically SFA does not matter. What I was getting at was you commenting about Kdogg but not reflecting that with your vote. Looking back a second time you had moved to SFA because he is your lucky vote. I also did not look at the time between that post and your later ones. I looked at the tally to see who had moved, not at what time they did so. What I initially saw as suspicious was your comment about Kdogg being dropped from the runoff, but sticking with your lucky vote of SFA.
Second, no, I have not obviously been watching the game. I have not looked, logged on, posted, ect this weekend. I got back on this morning, read through once, posted my initial thoughts, and am going through again to see who I want to vote for. If logging on here the first morning after a holiday weekend is suspicious then yes, I guess I am suspicious.
Third, Not sure where you are getting the not changing your vote without reason/kill some at the last minute part.
Making a post about my thoughts on the game is stretching things . . . not posting is hiding something . . . got it.
potentpotables I'd also like to point out that during the last time I played, I was the only Townsperson to vote for all three Mafia over the course of the game.
Which research shows you voted for 8 of 10 players in the game. Votes are extremely telling, but at the end of the day, context matters too. IMO watching the last few games, this is why the town keeps losing. They just look at the context and not the vote, or vice versa, the vote and not the context. The last games the town won were 75 and 76. You should remember 75 because we had a similar situation regarding number of people in the Day 1 runoff being debated there and your last minute add was how we smoked you out. While I do not think you are roonectar level and that "You can be dumber than I could ever imagine", history is important here. Especially since it is more than just me fact checking this time around. Voting for the mafia members is important, but you voted for more town in the game you are referencing than you did mafia, so it is really is not a great statistic to rely on.
Given that it comes down to KDogg vs Jimmy for me since I am obviously not going to vote for myself, I believe Jimmy is the more suspicious of the two. Couple reasons for this. First, I am pretty good at reading through KDogg's posts and figuring out his role. I generally have him pegged day 1 in most games we have played together regardless of role. The problem is that he tends to step in landmines or "lay in beds" people make for him, and I think that is the case here. Jimmy made a few posts that started me down this path (and that is why your comment jumped at me Jaz) starting with this one:
I'll put it out there that I'm not opposed to Kdogg being in a runoff. My vote on him was temporary, but by no means does me moving off him suggest I think he's cleared or not. Just trying to feel him out to start, and ultimately opted to create a runoff by switching to Potent
So he vote-switches to a temporary target, then looks to add in Potent for no other reason than "a noob is voting for him" and when the blowback starts, he begins to backpedal and go back to KDogg here:
Better that than the rush to judgment you wanted. If you had your way originally, we would've had a three-way at most in a best-case scenario - if we'd had a runoff at all. I think that's a reckless way to go about Day One.
But hey, I'm only an advocate for "a bunch of nonsense" to you. Nevermind that you endorsed my "nonsense" with your vote...
Nonsense. I always advocate for a runoff, regardless of my role. What a gross overreaction this post is, Kdogg. Nonetheless, I won't let your theatrics distract from the fact you just created a 5 person runoff. If people want me in the runoff then so be it. But you aren't MonkyBunney. You know exactly what you're doing when you make a 5 person runoff and I find that extremely suspect.
Thor >> Kdogg
This is the first accusation this game that someone was trying to end a round without a runoff (and one of the reasons why Mike D's post set off alarm bells). I only know of 1 or 2 games where Day 1 has ended directly and those were ones where extenuating circumstances existed a la Superbek. Someone else said it but the votes ALWAYS tend to level out so this is a very reckless claim KDogg makes here and shifted me back to him for a bit. For me, the round hinges on this string of posts and who you feel is more honest. I feel like Jimmy was pushing KDogg and KDogg fell into hyperbole as he is prone to do. It is truly a gut feeling but my gut has been right on KDogg before. It was reinforced here:
I don't need to proceed justifying myself. Anyone with half a brain can comprehend my votes and reasoning. If you think I was being rash, fine. But there is nothing more to explain on my end.
Given the two choices, I feel Jimmy is more suspicious at this point so:
Viking >>> KDogg >>> SFA >>> Thor
I have more but I want to see how the round goes on.
Oh trust me, I wanted KDogg back in it and would have moved this morning. I just didn't want to make the change without putting my thoughts out there. And I didn't move my vote for the same reason you didn't move yours. It would have been counterproductive when I came back and found him already back in the runoff.

Fair enough. See my last post on why it rang bells. You are in error about one thing though.
It absolutely does matter if I vote for SFA or not as history has clearly shown. Plainly put, every game I have played with him I have voted for him and I have won. The one game where I didn't, I lost. So yes, to me it mattered.
As for KDogg, there was time and I told you what happened. Similar reason to your reason in your second point. And I know you get busy during 4th weekends as outlined in my previous post. It was just curious given the timing and what you chose to highlight.
Third point is directly from your post. Dont know if I can be clearer.
As to your final point, that is an interesting comment. I am glad you get it because by nature, not posting in a posting game is hiding, and your thoughts were a bit of a stretch. So again, glad you got it.
Catching up now. Will post thoughts once I've read. I see some of y'all were a talkative little bunch on the hallowed Day of Patriotism (jk, I hate 'Murrica, but I do love the festivities part, namely fireworks. Definitely had not been keeping an eye out on happenings in this thread for the past 24 hours.)
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
Potent, why say you are not going to vote for kdogg out of spite last round but then 12 hours later switch your vote to him. I understand his post about a previous game was a weird but your reasoning for switching back seems a bit rash - especially after saying you wouldn't do exactly that earlier. Here is the post for those who don't want to go back a page.
potentpotables I'd also like to point out that during the last time I played, I was the only Townsperson to vote for all three Mafia over the course of the game.
Interesting. I just checked that game (Mafia 90). You voted for 8 of the 10 players in the game at one point or another, and the two you didn't vote for were the first day lynch (Carini) and the first night whack (Jaz), so had the cards fallen differently you would have voted for them, I'm sure.
So are we really bragging about this as an accomplishment?
Potent > SFA > KDogg
You allow Viking to vote for you and Mike D/SFA reciprocating (which, by the way, can't be the case for Mike D since he did it first) but call my Carini vote suspicious, and you blame me for Danbob voting for me. I just can't let it go.
I normally don't like to wade into the post count zone until the end of Day 1, but the cat is out of the bag since Danbob posted some mid-day numbers. Viking, I find your list interesting because when I bump it up against how I expected players to contribute, there are some noticeable differences.
Oh good. Another list, grouping us into these inane categories.
^^Basically Potent and Thor seem to be more active than usual, while Viking and Rummy less active than usual.
Everyone else seems to be playing about how they normally play so far; some more annoying than others...
I was quieter D1 last game than usual too. And was voted off. And was town. Also, I am sure you recall, since you were in that game, I even explained that my comparative quietness to previous games I've played was (and now, is) intentional.
That wasn't a Mafia tactic, to claim that I was making a conscious effort to shift into being a bit less talkative, especially on D1s. I was town and stating a truth. As i am now. But fixate on it all you want, if you insist...
There's some x-factors here, both general and specific.
Holiday weekend is a big factor here. Roles change from game to game, which could affect post counts. Referee sought our engagement on deadlines & such at the start, and not all answered. (And in my case, I have a couple of D1R1 tally posts in my count too.)
Not saying I'm not a talker, because I am... but I don't know if everything is an apples-to-apples comparison here.
It isn't. At all. And the amount of focus on this talker v watcher v in between, in junction with whether that player is usually whichever one they're currently acting as now....it seems at this point in the game like unnecessary "analysis" (if you can call it that - we all can go check the post counts if we want to; we don't need to post over and over about it while still on fucking D1) that is more so muddying the waters of these first five pages than it is clarifying or helping anything. The Mafia must realize that. It is almost always to the town's detriment to have D1s that span 7/8/9 pages, which is the direction we're headed, when lots of those posts are fluff. Which on D1 they generally are.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
So many words from Viking. Jesus. Trying to give them all due time and attention, because it would be foolish not to, especially given that my vote is on him...but the volume on just this page alone is ridiculous.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
Viking - What vote change without explanation? Not sure if this point really matters or not but you say you couldn't be clearer and I have no idea what the hell you are talking about.
We are in agreement about your kdogg comments and the runoff.
I have been busy this weekend and haven't be on, you even go as far as to point out that I have missed guesses in previous games on holiday weekends, but that is still hiding something?
Curious to see if we have any more moves, for now Mike D >> Viking

Because I'm flying blind, and a statement like that which is obviously and provably bullshit is something I like to act upon. One can analyze things to the point of mental paralysis in this game, so I try not to do that. I made my vote before I went to bed. When I woke up, the runoff was the same, but also KDogg made a statement that I thought needed to be researched. After I did the research, it didn't sit well with me so I switched my vote.
Viking - What vote change without explanation? Not sure if this point really matters or not but you say you couldn't be clearer and I have no idea what the hell you are talking about.

You commented that it was suspicious that I commented that KDogg weasled his way out of the runoff but did not vote for him. I posted from my mobile prior to going to blow things up last night so I didn't change my vote, because I could not fully explain myself. Do you need me to quote everything for you? Usually, you are one of the ones I can count on not having to break the crayon set for but I can if need be.
Agreed on KDogg.
If you dont like the word hiding, (which to be fair is loaded) I can use unknown, unopen, mystery, etc. Take your pick. But without anything to go on, your role is well and truly hidden. Not truly an accusation. Just a statement of fact.
Fair enough on your vote. I have explained everything as much as I can, but if you are intent on voting me off, so be it. I half expected it this game and have been surprised it has not been worse. All you are doing is voting for a townie though.
For the other members of the town, the votes on me are as follows:
Rummy - Who I think we all expected it from. But she is reading now, so lets see what she does.
Jaz - "For no reason"
SFA - who I voted for and never changed off of, and have laid out suspicion for
Mike D - For not moving my vote to KDogg over a mutual suspicion
I mean, if you guys didn't want me to play, just say so to start. But otherwise, I am going to continue to try and help get the town it's first win since the last time I was in the flipping town back in Mafia 75 (town), and 76 (Inspector).
Hey now, nobody's perfect. I've admitted where I felt my logic was on shaky ground in this game, and I feel I've been at least as transparent with my reasoning as anyone this time around. I'm at least putting things out there.
Contrast that with a certain other candidate in this runoff, who's basically told the other two candidates in this runoff that he won't respond to their questions and/or read the entirety of their posts - and that's when a runoff opponent is defending themselves against his accusations and/or making their case against him.
Wouldn't you want to shoot that down? Worst case, feels like the overconfidence associated with a certain role to me; best case, innocent player won't even bother with others? Either way, I don't think it's a very productive approach for the Townspeople here.

The town won at least Mafia 91. This is I think your second reference to the town not winning since 75 and 76, which is demonstrably incorrect. The town also won at least twice when I was mafia (hooray), and maybe a third, I can't remember if I've been mafia two or three times.

I stand corrected. Was going off this quote from the sign-ups:
Additionally, the last time the town won without proper Inspector gameplay was Mafia 76. That's 15 games. I'm under the assumption that the Inspector was either SFA or Carini and that we are on our own. For the town to have a chance at winning without our inspector, then we need the townies to quit complaining and contribute. And if you don't contribute, then you are part of the reason why the town always loses.
Will do my own fact checking going forward and apologize for the error.

If you want to ask me a direct question that is no longer than two tweets, sure. If you want to write an incomprehensible short story with veiled references at "certain other candidates" buried within and except me to respond to them, you can hold your breath.
Wow the pace of this game changed in a hurry. Guess gnr plus holiday will do that.
I'm good with my vote on Jimmy for now. Kdogg and Viking are being their usual long winded selves with Kdogg being more confusing but Jimmy is also making strange moves.
Also to add to the Nonsense, I didn't have a lucky shirt, but I did have a lucky pair of underwear that I wore whenever I was pitching. For hockey it was more ritual like I always put the right skate and shin pad on first (for some reason gloves never mattered), always left skate touching ice first, and always having an even #. Hockey players are weird lol.

Back to the game now
A goalie I knew had to kiss every one of his pads before putting them on. Fucking goalies man.
