apparently we have to sign safety waivers to go into Bjork Digital. No food or drinks and jacket check so hopefully it's not a super cold day or just hoodie weather. They are letting people in every 20 minutes.
No word yet on the food but I saw a chron article with a gallery from last year showing what looked to be satisfactory+ level shit. Being from NOLA usually means you ain't about that carnival fair shit. They showed smoked elk burgers, lots of seafood and Mexican seafood as well as plenty of street trucks and eclectic shit. Looks like they were going for the lights sound and food, so to me that's encouraging. For those who won't be eating, lmao and more power to you. But if they match last year, which you have to assume they will, I'm going to research the fuck out of the options. Woo. Week and a day til Houston motherfuckers.
If you are financially strapped and thinking about going, you might want to hold off on buying tickets. Last year they wound up doing a Black Friday sale and sold passes for $100. Then they wound up doing a Groupon for $125.
I saw in another thread you made mention of increased capacity this year. What was the capacity last year compared to this year?
Curious what we'll be walking into.
Decreased capacity this year. Last years was held at a bigger venue. Dont have numbers for you to compare.
Less ppl always equals a better time in my experience though. Should be great.
They said 30-40,000 people in the Paper City (I think it was them?) interview which would be much increased capacity over last year. I tried to find that article again the other day, but I can't. So they didn't say total through the doors all weekend or at any given time. I'll try to look again.
I am really surprised they haven't revealed the map yet. Figure it would be tomorrow. Or Monday?
The Silver Street Studios venue last year was pretty wide spread area. My girlfriend and I didn't even get to make it to a section because our schedule was so packed from doing/seeing other things.
According to this: ktru.org/day-for-night - S.S.S. was a 20,000 sq.ft. space. And there was a building they didn't even utilize.
Will they sell out? All these promos and contests they're doing shows they are really trying to do so. I'm sure it would be a great crown to capture for their second year. But will they do like a lot of fest organizers and publicly say they sold out a couple days before even though in reality they didn't? Amplify.

Has a fest ever done a blind presale before this year's current fest before?
Not that I can recall. Voodoo sold early Birds the sunday night after the fest had just finished one year.
oh and Hangout sold early birds for the next year while the fest was going on at the fest one year. Maybe more than one year. Definitely don't do that anymore though.
Live visual artist schedule is up on the Facebook page. Most of those sets (?) would conflict with musical sets, so it's going to be tough for me to hit a lot of those. Just the same I'm sure I'll stumble into a few of those visual shows just wandering.

Damien Echols is one of the visual artists all weekend, he was one of the West Memphis Three.
For any younguns up in here, give them a wiki. They were falsely accused of murdering three children in a 'Satanic Ritual' and railroaded in court by their bumblefuck Arkansas town in the early 90's. they just got out a few years ago due to some BS special legal plea. "I'm innocent but acknowledge there is enough evidence to be found guilty." (LEOs covering their ass from lawsuits)
Glad ol' dude is out and being productive, will def go check him out. Crazy he's gonna be there, followed this case/aftermath forever.
Also, Esteban, your avatar just reminded me I need to play Brain Salad Surgery today.

I got there early on the first day last year and that was the only real time I spent at the visual shows, other than NONOTAK. The lines were long once the placed filled and it wasn't a big draw for me compared to the musical acts that were playing. I could see how someone in the right state of mind could spend hours watching those lights.
Damn it, NONOTAK is during Jesus/Mary Chain/Blood Orange on Saturday and Kamasi/RZA on Sunday, all of which I had penciled in. Ugh! And from 2015's artists, they are one of the big Art headliners you wouldn't want to miss.
Really cool that is -the- Damien Echols. I will be penciling in one of his sets on Sunday.
Her Blue Stage performance is her DJ'ing. The Bjork Digital is the VR/Immersive Experience. I'm f'd. I tried to hit them up since I have 3 separate orders of 1, 2 and 3 tickets and have no f'n clue which wristbands go with which orders. I'd hate to get my reservation only to be told "you aren't reserved. Yeah we got your name, but that's the wrong f'n wristband Esteban." at having to try to get 3 spots.
Not to mention the artist line up too. I know we're all about the musics here, but the light installations last year were mind blowing. Just as exciting as the music. So be sure to look up YouTube videos of the light artists too when you have some downtime.
Yes, this fest is my favorite not just because of the interesting musical acts, but the fascinating art installations they include as well. A stacked musical line-up is one thing, trying to fit in cool light show experiences? There will be no downtime at this fest. Conflict-guaranteed.
