Damnit, I don't fly into Houston till 8:30PM on Friday
Yeah. We aren't coming in til that night either. I'd have paid the 100 for sure just for the walk thru and private sets. But at least I get to go. Just bought one more ticket so that makes 6. Houston, we don't have a problem today baby.
On the Light side of things, they're bringing back the best installers from last year, including AV&C/Houze, whose installation I caught and have as my profile pic. This is gonna be a lot of fun.
I will be going to this thing for sure 100%. Do we know if it is likely to sell out anytime soon?
last year they had trouble selling tickets at all. This year they seem to have much more buzz though. And I think they lowered ticket prices. So tbd, they didn't have nearly this much buzz last year so there isn't really a precedent set.
A friend that I'm going with knows someone in Houston so we have a free place to crash. Five hour drive there. So I guess I'll leave after work on that Friday and come back Monday. Only have to take off one day of work. Yaaaaassss
It's so weird that Kaskade and Odesza are on this lineup. They make zero sense here.
You have to figure that Odesza would work well with the whole light/atmosphere/ethereal side since they employ a lot of that chill-wave sound (at least the few times I stopped in on their sets). As for Kaskade, agreed. I only saw him at ACL 13 from an adjacent stage area waiting for someone else to come on. It was loud and bold if not a little generic. Some dude on Reddit last year noted similar for a couple acts that didn't make any sense. Some other cat chimed in, "I'm sick of festivals trying to make sense." Not sure how I feel about that either way, but it was kind of funny. --------------------------------------- As for things that I don't know that seem a bit intriguing:
Little Dragon Liars Survive Nothing DAED Buoyant Spirit Maramuresh From Beyond
I'll check out whatever I can find on these acts over the next few months to start working on a schedule. If anyone has any specific recommendations on any of these acts, please feel free to hook me up with some reference material. ----------------------------------------- So with the lineup out, I'd say the early bird Top 10 things I want to see (admitting I only have heard of or heard a little under half the acts):
1. Butthole Surfers Reunion 2. Aphex Twin 3. Bjork Digital 4. Welcome to Houston featuring everybody 5. Run the Jewels 6. RZA 7. Unknown Mortal Orchestra 8. Lightning Bolt 9. Uncle A and the Deadbeats 10.Travis Scott

Program Timing Friday, December 16, 2016 – 7 pm to 2 am Saturday, December 17, 2016 – 2 pm to 2 am Sunday, December 18, 2016 – 2 pm to 2 am
Did it go that late last year??? With most of this being geared to a fusion of visual arts and music, it def makes to avoid sunlight. I wonder how lax the ordinances are in Houston. This is good news as I hate when a fest ends at 10pm.
Just an FYI, here's the hotel I booked for the festival. Walking distance to the festival site, cheap ($233 for 3 nights), great ratings, and no deposit required w/ free cancellation.
Butthole Surfers put this over the top and made this unmissable.
Also stoked on all the art and it being Xmas time as opposed to a sweaty nutsack summer fest.
Surfers, Aphex, Bjork, John Carpenter, Chelsea Wolfe, Liars etc, what a crazy lineup. Just read that CoS review of the fest and hope it isn't packed out. The noobs and jagoff kids will be polluting the edm areas so I prob won't have to deal with that much.
