If you are financially strapped and thinking about going, you might want to hold off on buying tickets. Last year they wound up doing a Black Friday sale and sold passes for $100. Then they wound up doing a Groupon for $125.

I doubt this sells out, and if it does it won't be anytime soon.
People on here are in such a bubble. Aphex Twin and Bjork are really awesome, and totally why I (and I am sure everyone around here) wants to go.. But like it or not Odesza and Kaskade are the ones who are going to be selling the majority of the tickets to this.

It's also at a different venue with possibly less capacity.

Ah, didn't realize that. Well thats definitely the biggest factor if it does sell out.

Bubble indeed. Those are two acts I don't mind but really don't care that much about one way or another. My favorite time I saw Odesza was when they came up on stage and played with Adventure Club at Hangout in 2015. It's take it or leave it for me as is Kaskade. There will probably be better stuff to see.
Having said that, the world music press was all over the Aphex Twin announcement yesterday. You can check Google News, and it was a headline for everything from Billboard to CoS to various newspapers, Brooklyn Vegan, etc. I think it's a bigger deal than it might appear to be. You're still right, though. I doubt 5% of any of us are going because of Kaskade or Odesza. A lot of people will. Hopefully they'll get exposed to some freaky stuff that they'll remember and help them expand into more diverse music.
For the capacity, I have no idea. They have approximately 6 acres around that building plus whatever interior space they use. Say it's a net 3 acres or whatever, that's probably over 60,000 people. I don't think that many will attend. This seems more like a 15-20,000 person festival. Just the same, Houston is the 4th biggest city in the nation and 9th largest metro (7,000,000+/-).
Does anyone that's seen video of the Bjork digital DJ set actually think it'll be worth a shit? Because the footage I saw puts the under in underwhelming.
Silver Studios which is a series of movie set warehouses. They said it was indoor/outdoor, so I don't know how much area they used for the installations, stages, etc.

I'm not making a judgment. Apparently there are Virtual Reality aspects to it that you probably have to be there or have the right apparatus to see it for what it is supposed to be. That's the way it sounds to me anyway.

Interesting. Hopefully they can go later than midnight this year if they have it mostly indoors.

Last year the main stage was outdoors, had great screens, and a carpeted dance floor. There was another small stage on the opposite side of the studios, a stage inside that had more of the electronic performers and the great set by the Philip Glass Ensemble, and in that same building, different rooms and hallways that featured light shows as well as a few separate buildings for the art installations. Nanotak had its own large warehouse for its installation. It was my favorite and the only one I spent any real time checking out.

Have yall tried VR? That technology is mind blowing in the most mundane and basic production, so add a world class musician snd amazing visuals and it could def be worthwhile. Or it could completely miss....well all see!

It looks to be insane. I've only watched videos of people utilizing it and what happened with their reactions. I think it's the biggest thing since they were talking about things going "touch screen" in the early 2000's (which now pretty much everything is).
The industry is not sure what to make of the technology. It's pretty split between those who see it as another 3D Television/Betamax novelty and those who think it's the future. I agree that it's the future, because once people go the immersive route, it's going to be hard to walk that back. PlayStation launches in October, and I was waiting for that. It's still first generation (like Oculus Rift), but we should know by 2018 or 2019 where we're headed. In my mind, Microsoft, Nintendo and the rest sort of wait it out and cede first generation to Sony and then jump into competition for the next generation of VR. You could see all kinds of new associated technologies like happened with iPhones if the designers can work with the platforms. For instance, consider a chair that maybe swivels or moves you up or down or side to side or whatever in response to a sound or image. There are limitless opportunities to match hardware with the software and games. -------------------------------------------- So will Bjork's digital immersion rule or bore? I have no idea.
