Only created this account to stalk + hang out on the NFF thread -- so *hello*, folk fam!
Last year was my first year + my life was changed forever. Excited for 2017, but seriously, can we get an announcement already?? Twitter is already a scary enough place to be right now, especially to be stalking for NFF lineup clues every hour, on the hour.
IMHO, Dylan can stay away. I don't need to see this new show he's putting on
Are you telling me you're not stoked for a TRIPLE ALBUM of bad Sinatra covers?! And you don't want to watch Bob Dylan croak through "Don't Think Twice It's Alright" and "Tangled Up In Blue"???
Newport's actually the only occasion where I would want to see him, because it'd check that off the bucket list, it would be kind of special, and there would be plenty of other great artists throughout the day. But yeah I don't think it'll ever happen.

At this point, I'd rather watch an old DVD of Dylan from the 70s...not Dylan in his 70s.
Does anyone else find themselves noticing a missing local date in a tour release, and thinking...maybe Newport?
**With plausible artists course.
I think a lot of people on this board, myself included, do that with most festivals. Haven't seen a ton that make me think Newport, partially because a lot of the recent ones ended up at Boston Calling.
Also, hasn't been mentioned but Trey Anastasio is probably out with those 13 Phish shows at MSG. He'd have to play Newport pretty early in the day if he was gonna make it back to NYC.

Good call on Trey...missed that announcement. Yeah I considered him out now.
A couple that announced today that were missing local dates.
Lone Bellow Blues Traveller Kiefer Sutherland ( Newport seems to like the film / music combo in the past )

I saw Kiefer Sutherland in the bar area of Terrapin Crossroads during set break of a Phil and Friends show and it was surprisingly good.

I commented on The Lone Bellow's announcement asking about Newport and some responded saying "This was asked by an audience member at a recent show in Philly and it sounds like it ain't happening this year"
Bummer. I guess that means 2018? I feel like they're a band that as long as they're making new music they'll keep coming back

So... question. How are the Deer Tick afterparties? Are they worth the extra $$? Our crew usually takes a half-day on Thursday [we all drive up from NYC] + takes off Monday as well, so the whole weekend can quickly add up. I was also hoping to check out The Wild Honey Pie afterparty w/ Wild Child + Rayland Baxter last year, but didn't make it.
++ where do you typically stay [if you aren't local]? This will be my second year, + we will be Airbnb-ing it again in Portsmouth. It isn't too bad [tbh -- it's actually really nice; our property is on the water again w/ a private beach], but makes it difficult to check out the afterparties or really Newport after 7PM. Last year, we drove back [about a 30-min drive], grilled out, + then, promptly passed out, having learned that being outside in the sun all day is *exhausting*.

I like the Deer Tick afterparties. I have gone to them for the past 3 years, but I actually like the Jane Pickens shows more. Like you said, after a long day in the sun, you can get exhausted. The Pickens shows are seated, and such a amazing atmosphere.
I camp in Middletown. Thought about the Air B and B, but so expensive! What's that run you?

Depending how many more of our friends get passes through Lyte, probably around $60 - $75 a night per person. Last year, we didn't start looking on Airbnb until January, which we still thought was early -- but quickly learned that there were very slim pickings. We paid around $100 per person a night last year. This year, we booked it at the end of November + had wayyyy more options to choose from.

So I'm a little biased, since DT is my very favourite band, but I think their aftershows are absolutely worth every penny. They can get pretty rowdy, which may be tough after a long day in the sun, but you should at least try to catch one. Even if I couldn't get tickets to the festival, I would still make the 9 hour trek from Toronto, just for these shows.
As for lodgings, we've stayed at the Motel 6 for the last 4 years, and it's pretty cheap, I think around $115 a night. It's about 10 minutes North of downtown, and nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. Plus it's right next to a Walmart, liquor store, & a few places to eat which is super handy.
Yeah... started thinking "Rabbit, Rabbit" was some clue to the first announcement. Disappointing, but interesting to learn about a new superstition: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbit_rabbit_rabbit
Also interesting because that is also referred to as "white rabbit" which is a Jefferson Airplane song. The album that was on " Surrealistic Pillow" turns 50 today.
