Osheaga, the weekend after NFF up in Montreal, got announced today. Biggest names (not announced for NFF yet) include Dawes, Strand of Oaks, and Rag'n'Bone Man.
What about Sylvan Esso. Would they be a possibility?
There's a tour gap but I'm not sure the clue really points to them. They would be a good fit and there's plenty of history with both of them and this fest. Honestly might be too loud for Newport.
Get off my lawn.
Some of you people have weird ideas of what would be a "good fit." I mean yeah both members are connected to folky groups, but Sylvan Esso are electronic dance pop... Would you say that CHVRCHES would be a good fit too?

Def wouldn't consider CHVRCHES ever. But how would you classify Tuneyards?

The big difference there to me is that there's a lot of instrumentation in Tuneyards' live show while SE is all Nick DJing and Amelia singing.
Also they're at Boston Calling and it seems like there are a handful of artists that would make more sense to crossover than them

I don't think sylvan esso is a perfect fit, but I think a stripped down set like their tiny desk concert would work well enough.

Yeah I mean I'd be very down for them to be on the lineup, even after seeing them at BC (and maybe in NYC too). Their album became one of my most anticipated of the year with that new song today

who are you (or I for that matter) to say what's a good fit and not a good fit. This festival basically does what it wants, in the best way possible.

I'm gonna go ahead and disagree here...Newport is one of the most focused festivals around. It almost entirely consists of folk, blues, bluegrass, rock, and variations of those genres.

I forget which group it was, but in one of the afterfilms, a "nonfolk" band said "of course we're folk music, we're folks playing music." So anything is possible.
I still haven't listened to The Head and the Heart's latest album, and don't really plan to. Anyone around here that wants to convince me it's worth the time?

You guys know what I mean...NFF doesn't try to cater to everyone like the big major fests. They don't have edm, pop, rap/hip hop, heavy metal, etc. Just about every person there is playing a stringed instrument and singing. Yes there are multiple genres, but it isn't all encompassing. I don't know why I'm even arguing, we all know what it is.

I love the album. But I'm also a big fan.
I loved the first album, but I thought the second was a major let down. How does the third album compare?

This is my feeling towards them too. I actually liked the second album at first and after listening to it a fair amount right when it came out I started liking it less and less. Plus my favorite of the three singers had to leave the band (although I think he's on the album)

I think he's coming back to the band once he gets his stuff together...so let's hope for that. I agree he was the best part of the band, not only on the record but in live performances. They definitely suffer for his loss.
I enjoyed their set at OBH. I have seen them at least 6 or 7 times, but not in the past few years (and I haven't really listened to them either), so I wasn't sure what to expect. I most definitely missed Josiah, but his fill in wasn't bad.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Was THATH the band we watched at Newport together and the lady singer had the REALLY bad outfit on?

I don't know if she's ever had a good outfit on, so while I wasn't there, I'm guessing that's who it was.
