Where do you think Jim James et. al fit into this? If MoF is a thing, would there be a chance they'd be a #2 and on before Paul Simon?
I'm one of the few who really doesn't see MoF happening anytime too soon. Everyone got all in an uproar with "OMG they're working on a new album!!", including every music publication running an article titled "Jim James confirms new Monsters of Folk album" when all Jim said was "We started one for a movie and didn't finish it. Maybe someday we will." Though, if they were to get together for a one off, Newport seems like the place, and it does seem like they all could be there on their own this year anyways so maybe. I just don't see a new album coming out soon. I've been meaning to get that off my chest for a while hahaha. IF they do have a proper set though, pre-headline.

Lindsey Buckingham/Christine McVie set would be cool. Or a Buckingham solo set. I'm definitely not expecting Fleetwood Mac or Stevie Nicks.
With Stevie's connection to Deer Tick, I'm surprised she hasn't played yet.
I'm with you on MoF, definitely not expecting an album and was similarly frustrated with music press' response to that comment. I think for us it's the fact that Jim, Conor, and M. Ward are all active, have collaborated/played together recently, and now both Jim and Conor are playing right around Newport weekend but still available. There's that feeling of all the cards falling suspiciously into place, even though it's still a long shot. But that's how it felt with New Basement Tapes a couple years ago, and we got nothing there.
As for Stevie Nicks, is there a connection beyond that time she sang "Rhiannon" with them?

I know Stevie and Vanessa have been friends for years and have toured and made tunes together, then John entered the picture and Stevie officiated the wedding. She's also their daughter's godmother. I sorta just assume every Newport staple tells all their friends how great the fest is, so I like to imagine that John and Vanessa have tried convincing Stevie.
I forget which group it was, but in one of the afterfilms, a "nonfolk" band said "of course we're folk music, we're folks playing music." So anything is possible.
... Chance '17.
Not the Chance I was talking about, Jay, but I'll still take it!
Also, since we've now got my two favourite JPs on the lineup, can we add Jimmy Page for a hat trick.

Why not go for five?
If you're having Jimmy Page, you should bring along John Paul Jones too
And then obviously you go from there to John Paul White

I'd be pretty okay with OCMS playing a set as well. I haven't had a chance to see them yet.
As for the whole Dawes maybe not playing thing....I was really counting on it. I was holding off on tickets to see them in NY cause they are a little pricey for me at the moment - but now if they may not play I might just have to bite the bullet and do it.

I mean I think for the most part we're pretty reasonable. If our idea of knocking it out of the park is Paul Simon - John Prine - Fleet Foxes, we're not really venturing outside the realm of possibility
EDIT: Also, not to point fingers, but aren't you the one who's the least certain that the latter two are headliners?

No, I think Prine is headlining. I'm not sure about FF. I mean Prine is legendary!

I saw that when he tweeted it and kind of assumed he was referring to people on here bringing up Paul Simon because he responded to that person on the NFF twitter saying "It would be our honor" or whatever it was if Paul Simon were to play and I think that was around the same time.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher
I have never been disappointed in a NFF lineup in the four years I've been going. Big names are great but, I love the new artists. It's so much fun exploring new music before I go. I've also been accused of not having a nostalgic bone in my body! On to the future for me.
