The first band I ever saw at Newport was Hurray for the Riff Raff and fell in love with them and the festival. That same year was the infamous Father John Misty performance and I left that feeling amazed and "did that just happen"! Dragged my friend back with me every year since. I was also incredibly moved by John Moreland's set and Christopher Paul Stelling's marriage proposal on stage. This is the place where magic happens.
Right there with you on HFTRR and John Moreland. Some of my favorite moments were for the lesser-known bands. Reignwolf was one of my most surprising acts. He was wild!

Thanks for compiling! I was trying to do something like this early on to compare each announcement side-by-side with the equivalent one from last year but it was more trouble than it was worth. Because it wasn't worth much. Didn't remember the last bunch being that stacked!

I agree John Moreland was fantastic. That's one of the things I love about Newport, I never heard of John Moreland before Newport and now he is one of my favorite singers.
I guess this year's last ten weeks will include Joseph, Breklee Gospel Choir and For Pete's Sake. Who would be the next three favorites other than those?

HGM was confirmed too.
That still leaves a lot of announcements to look forward to and if it's half as good as last year's we're in for some good days ahead. I'm surprised Regina was placed below the Head and the Heart. She plays very big venues. She even played on a float at the Macy's parade this year.

As was Nikki Lane.
Other artists I'm putting in the "Very Likely" category: (to be fair though, I had Dawes in that category too...)
Hurray for the Riff Raff Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires something involving Conor Oberst

The new podcast is out. Did a quick jump to the end, and it doesn't sound like there's a clue. Maybe that means Wednesday is another collab set, or maybe I'm a turkey and missed it.

Really really good podcast. Definitely worth a listen, if only to actually force yourself to hear songs from some of the smaller, recently announced artists. No clues, just music and discussion. They did post their first phone message from a fan on that answering machine they set up. Hope they continue to do that. I'm sure there's some gems in there.

Not sure if it's been mentioned (I'd be very surprised if I missed something on this board) but somebody over on Reddit confirmed The Ballroom Thieves for Sunday. Not sure how credible...

Dying for some strand of oaks. Hard Love has recently become my favorite album of 2017 so far. Hoping I don't have to do a Boston Calling single day just for them.

Saw them last week - the show was good but surprisingly short. Only like 11 songs or so? Was odd.

My opinion is almost entirely the opposite of this. I didn't love Hard Love nearly as much as I did Heal, thought it was good but not great. And I'll be seeing them at BC so I could do without them at Newport just to make room for an artist I like more. Also there's already a decent amount of returns from 2015, not that that's something to really complain about.
fwiw there's always surprisingly little crossover between the two fests given the potential and there's already Drive-By Truckers, Angel Olsen, and Joseph on there.
So...is tomorrow a collaboration, or is it a monster...or did they just not feel like a clue this week haha! So many options.
Who knows, but these Tuesdays and Thursdays just get more and more painful. It definitely doesn't help that I'm finishing up school with classes on Tues/Thurs and working a job I really like on M/W/F .

Weighing in on Hard Love: Definitely really like it. Heal is a 10/10 for me, so HL is probably an 8/10. Definitely going to be in my top 10 of the year, if not higher. And suuuuper stoked to see him at BC and would be overjoyed to have him at Newport too. Tim is probably the most grateful musician I've ever seen live.
Last year was my first year, so bear with me -- I'm only working with that.
I think for me, it was Julien Baker's set. Just unreal, goosebump-inducing. Ended up getting tickets for her NYC show on the car ride home.
But my other favorites from last year included: Rayland Baxter was also a lot of fun for an pre-noon set. St. Paul was just a blast -- super high-energy. ++ Phil Cook w/ the Blind Boys of Alabama.
Julien's set was hands down the highlight of last year for me. I still get chills anytime I listen to it .
I fell in love with Radical Face thanks to the festival last summer too, but Julien was easily one of my top Newport moments ever.
Just a thought: Lollapalooza lineup is out and honestly, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if jay booked Arcade Fire with Pres Hall Jazz Band for a Saturday headliner.

I predicted this last year. With Ben Jaffe on the Advisory Board I can see it happening in the next 2 - 3 years.

I'd be very down and it's certainly not out of the question, especially with Pres. Hall being at XPN, but I won't get my hopes up
It's cool that they're on it, but their input wasn't all that notable to me. If I'd heard it without knowing they were there I would've just assumed it was Chuck
