I see it as a honoring of him, in general, of his life and his music.
I guess I'm just really touchy after seeing so many tributes to him and how's he was such an amazing guy and I wanna puke thinking about the women he violated.
I agree with King T - they're honoring him because of the profound impact he had on music. He was one of the forefathers of Rock and Roll, so that enough is a reason to give him a tribute. They aren't saying that he was an amazing individual or anything, at least from what I've seen.
But hey, if you don't want your ticket anymore, I'll be happy to take it off of you - someone who actually appreciates the music.

You had me until that last petty clause
Katy has been incredibly petty and rude to me in the past, so I had no problem saying it. It doesn't discount the point I was making - and the fact that there are a lot of people who appreciate Chuck Berry and respect his contributions to music - putting everything else aside.
Not like anyone really gives a shit about my opinion here anyways.

and build the following pivot table. Learned a couple of things:
1. They dropped three big Saturday acts in May (Ryan Adams, Graham Nash, Patti Smith). 2 for Sunday (Alabama Shakes, Elvis Costello) and 1 for Friday (Violent Femmes)... 2. April and March weren't nearly as loaded. 3. Friday front loaded the schedule though they did announce nathaniel Rateliff early on for Saturday as well. Sunday didn't come together until late.. 4. This year there are definitely more collaborations/group sets in the works than there were last year. Seems like one way to satisfy the demand of artists wanting to play the venue with a limited number of slots.
Would love to take this further, but have already spent too much time that I should be doing other things.

Suck my dick from the back.
See? This is what I mean - she's incredibly mean spirited.
Katy, you said it was "gross" that Newport booked a tribute to Chuck Berry, so shut the fuck up. You completely misread the purpose of why they chose to book a tribute to one of the forefathers of Rock and Roll. Bottom line is that it has nothing to do with how he was as a human being, but the contributions he made to the music. You clearly don't appreciate his contributions to music and chose to judge an artist for what he did in the past, after he just passed away. Go fuck yourself.

Dude, you literally told me I don't care about music, and I'm the mean spirited one? You are so out of touch with reality.
I am not going to apologize for finding any tribute to a fucking rapist and sexual predator gross, and I'm certainly not going to apologize to your salty ass. I completely understand why they chose to give him a tribute, but as an individual, I can find it disappointing.
You having a problem with me is the least of my worries, and I do mean the very least.
edit/ Lol, what's funny is I didn't even remember who you were or having any weird interactions with you, so I looked back... You're STILL mad that I told you Jason Isbell wasn't an "up and coming" artist? Holy shit.

Read what I said again - I didn't say you didn't care about music. I said you don't appreciate HIS contributions to music - and if you don't understand why they are doing a tribute to him, then clearly YOU are out of touch with reality. And judgemental. You're entitled to an opinion, but don't go around calling Newport "gross" for this - what Chuck Berry did in his personal time has nothing to do with his music, nor discounts his legacy.
I'm not asking for an apology - I could give a fraction of a shit about what you think about me, especially from a pretentious asshole like you. If you don't like it or support it, then don't go - no one is forcing you.

What's hilarious is I said, verbatim, "I completely understand why they chose to give him a tribute". I also didn't call Newport gross, I said them having the tribute was kinda gross.
I'm guessing if they'd music forums in the 60s then Woodstock would've sucked. There must be a formula for how long it takes for folks to start fighting online. At least it seems to take longer for it happen on a Newport forum. That's a positive. In the few years I've been going I've seen zero fights or arguments so let's not here pleeeeeese.
Having said that my best friend was pissed with me when I made us leave Case Lang Viers early. In my defense the speaker volume was destroying my kids ear drums up front. In my friends defense they were awesome and I'm sorry I had to miss any of it.
To think this all could've been avoided if he had just heard of Jason Isbell.
I just don't understand why anyone would be defending Chuck Berry for what he did. I mean, you're right, he did horrible things. I think they are more trying to defend Newport for booking him. I think they must think that Newport is above any criticism. I mean, we know what Chuck Berry did for music, but that's completely outside of your point. It's just not something anyone should be fighting you on.

To quote the greatest movie of all time, Dazed and Confused, "What can I say? It's beyond me."

I agreed with his point actually. I'm not saying he's above it but I think it's important to separate an artist's work from their actions, you know?

I got in a verbal altercation (which was a mega fight in my mind) my first year, 2012, before they had dancing room at the main stage. I walked through the half empty lawn chairs to get to the front to see Charles Bradley and Trampled By Turtles, and there was probably like 30 people standing up front. Then some guy comes back to his seat and starts yelling at me that I'm blocking his view and that he'd been waiting all day to get that spot, even though the chair was empty when I got up there. He tried telling me he was security because he was wearing a previous year's volunteer shirt. He was an idiot, but still managed to rattle me, until the screaming eagle of soul soothed the pain away.
