Is Gary Clark Jr. an option for this year? He hasn't played in 5 years.
Definitely. He seems to slowly be rolling out summer dates and still has Newport weekend completely open. FWIW he also just announced a show at the Casino Ballroom in Hampton w/ Kiwanuka in August
Listening to Pinegrove...these guys would be excellent at the fort!
a few days late on this but i would LOVE for them to show up! I missed out on tickets to their April show in NY and they are super pricey on resale. I'm keeping fingers crossed they show up somewhere!

Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Dr. Dog should definitely have been on my list. Probably Big Thief too, although if they conflict with Seratones (which would be a dumb move) I'd go with Seratones.
I think Jason Isbell said he won't be doing festivals this summer. Maybe Newport will be an exception but I kind of doubt it. I think he'll just pop up at other people's sets. Although it's about time Amanda Shires has a proper set
Local Natives are playing here tonight but I'm wondering what the chances are they'll be at Newport. They're in California 7/28 and then Montreal the very beginning of August. Think they could be Sunday Newport?

Definitely most excited for sunday that schedule is already a huge problem for me amd we only have half of the day so far. The rest of the weekend is just a lemon and i refuse to put up with this subpar lineup

I agree with many of these predications. I've still got this crazy hunch about The Kinks.
Not a big blue glass / country guy, so a wee underwhelmed this year, but never know. I'm liking The Wild Weeds, who I'm just starting to listen to...and, of course, John Prine.
But ever year there is something so not obvious Newport, so yes Waters, White, even Patti Smith. Maybe it would have been Chuck Berry.
Three wacko thoughts: 1) The Springstein -- Prine -- Seeger connection; 2) Keith Richards; 3) David Byrne.

David Byrne has been working with Lucius on a project "contemporary color." That would be a shocker for sure. I'd be down.

This may or may not mean anything but the only festival the Kinks follow on twitter is Newport. Fantastic Negrito has got a vibe that fits in at Newport...Here's to hoping !!
