Been lurking on this board and enjoying watching this year’s festival take shape--it'll be our third year in a row at NFF. Thankfully we decided once again to come all three days. Adding any more to an already fantastic weekend will make it even more impossible to see everyone I want to see, but here are my final seven:
Wilco Ray Davies w/Jayhawks Mountain Goats Aimee Mann Joan Osborne New Pornographers Alt-J
I might have guessed Monsters of Folk for Saturday HL, but I'm hoping that Wilco will get that spot. And I'm hoping that Hiss Golden Messenger is already down for Saturday, as Grandma's Hands Band.
I'm not sure NFF can top last year's final half dozen reveals, but we will see...
My final seven picks.... Conor Oberst Ballroom Thieves Hiss Golden Messenger The Lumineers Deer Tick Darlingside Cat Stevens
Looks like Lumineers tour with Tom Petty a few weeks after Newport. I still hope Brandi Carlile can make it. As for someone who mentioned Blondie recently. I had the same thought a few weeks ago. She is in the area but playing other venues that weekend. Stephen Stills is in OH on July 28 but plays CT few weeks after Newport.

Stephen Sills is touring with Judy Collins, and they both have the Saturday open.
Predictions of what's left. saw JS at the amazing High Water fest in Charleston last week. Fest was modeled straight after Newport and they crushed it. Shovels and Rope curated and it had many of Newports best. deertick MLV (star of the fest) Lucius Suffers Deslondes Tasjan Charles Bradley, etc
anyways to Newport. i think the best stuff this year will not even be announced. JS has already said this is his wish. Bands that you know will be there. Lucius Tick Hiss Golden Langehorne Dawes Conor Oberst.
my 3 big predictions Stevie Nicks with Deer Tick M. Ward Lucinda

I'm 90% certain Lucius will be on the road with Roger Waters for most of the year including Newport, but I could be wrong.
Signs point to HGM and Grandma's Hands Band being one and the same so they're technically already announced.
Unfortunately Dawes' tour dates put them in Canada/the Midwest around and during Newport, so I think we actually won't be seeing them at all for the first time in years.
EDIT: Dawes appeared in some fashion or another every year since 2010
Eyes peeled this whole week for announcements, taking another (essentially better) stab at the final announcements, however, I think all headliners are solidified:
Museum Stage Acts (For Pete's Sake and any other goodness Chris Funk(y) Fresh curates; also thinking this is where Margo Price, Amanda Shires, and members of Deer Tick will show up) Bob Weir & The Campfire Band Old Crow Medicine Show Lucy Dacus Conor Oberst Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires Stephen Stills & Judy Collins

I was hoping for Brandi as well but she just announced Oregon dates July 29 and 30

Brandi is playing in Providence (Fete) and at Boston Calling at the end of this month, so makes no sense to return two months later.
I originally mentioned Blondie, more as a reach than reality. I think David Byrne "starts making more sense," in that era/genre. Still, from what I can see, Blondie is in Bethel Woods, NY on Saturday, then is free until hitting NYC on Tuesday.
The Ballroom Gypsies also make sense, especially after their little "gig" last year in the family tent, but that's hugely big trek from Calgary for anyone doing double duty at Newport. And First Aid Kit would seem motivated to return -- I think it was Johanna who couldn't sing last time because of her throat.
If only Nash was available we could have a CSNY reunion -- Collins / Stills / Nash / and Young.
First Aid Kit just said in a live instagram video that they'd be in New England this summer but aren't touring. Could potentially see them back
First Aid Kit sang some Dylan songs on TV during Sweden's coverage of the US election. One of them wore a Bernie Sanders shirt. They also attended a Swedish women's March. I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted to be at the Fort this year. I had ruled them out because their tours dates are all in Europe but there is a gap between June 24 Norway and Aug 4 UK they could make a US visit.

Would love to hear this song ringing off the Fort walls!

Speaking of protest tunes, this is amazing. I've never been the biggest fan of "This Land is Your Land", but Phosphorescent does a damn beautiful cover. Holy moly.
Not exactly the "ace-in-the-hole" folks expecting, but good band. I still have the reel-to-reel they use in the "Golden Days" video. And the 456 Ampex tape. Prob crumbling to pieces.
Also, on the subject of First Aid Kit. I just had the thought that maybe they'll come out as a guest if Conor Oberst plays and then do a Museum set or something. They seemed to be saying their album won't be out until next year, so I'd rather Newport waits on a full set from them

Oberst appearance would make the most sense for them.
Andrew Bird just got announced for a free Brooklyn show on 7/28. So looks like we should expect him to make the final 5
Isn't he booked the whole weekend?
Right you are, guess I should have checked his tour dates! Now I'm a little bummed that Brooklyn show is on Newport weekend. Especially when it's with Esperanza Spalding

With Leon Bridges getting announced for that festival in PA 7/21-7/23, I could def see him being announced. Only concern there is that he has not released anything new since last visit.
