Somebody commented on Deer Tick's Facebook with late night artists:
Assuming Friday: Big Thief Robert Ellis Ruby Amanfu
Assuming Saturday: Hiss Golden Messenger (Justin Vernon appearance?) Nicole Atkins The Seratones (Confirmed Saturday)
Assuming Sunday: Billy Bragg Jim James The Wild Reeds
There is two Provindence bands on that playlist, The Quahogs and Boo City, so I would assume they would be playing as well. Of the others on the list, the ones that I do believe have never played the Deer Tick After Parties before are Nicole Atkins, Big Thief, Wild Reeds, Seratones, Billy Bragg, and Jacob Smigel. That still leaves at least one more artist to be added. Jim James or Hiss Golden Messenger would be amazing.
Chance of rain has now crept into Saturday, with some new uncertainty over how fast the front moves out of the area. Of course Jim James is gonna do this to us.

Getting ready to drive up tomorrow morning from NYC! Crew of 14 is staying at an Airbnb in Portsmouth.
Anyone have their own NFF playlists? Or live albums they recommend for the drive up? I've been listening to the official one + Jay's on Spotify for months now.
It's more about the worry that some of my most anticipated sets get cancelled
True -- as long as there is no lightening or heavy seas you'll be in sight of land soon. Remember how Mavis Staples practically willed the sun out during her closing set? Magic moment.

Last year's playlist is my plan for the drive tomorrow.

See you suckas in Rhode Island. Listening to Pretty Girls Like Trap Music all the way down so as not to spoil my ears with folk before a whole weekend of it.
Pete Seeger leading the crowd to sing Happy birthday to Ramblin' Jack at a backstage bbq. Middle Brother at the quad. Britney Howard with MMJ. Punch Brothers playing unamplified for 20+ minutes after their set was supposed to end. Everything TuneYards. Jackson Browne and deer tick and Dawes etc playing Paul Simon songs at the NBC.
On the road now. Maybe we'll see some of you there
OH Jackson Brown closing ? with Lawyers, Guns, and Money!! Epic!!
From the local station: A cold front is today’s weather maker. Look for clouds to thicken up and showers will develop. Come tonight, we will even have a slight chance of thunderstorms. Friday will be generally unsettled as today’s front is expected to linger just offshore to our south. We will be closely watching the development of a coastal storm that will bring extremely heavy rain to the Mid-Atlantic states on Friday. As of now, models are trending to hold it off to our south Saturday morning. Should this storm creep the slightest bit to the north of estimates, we could see extremely heavy rainfall Saturday morning. Coastal areas could see several inches of rainfall Saturday should this situation develop. We will, of course, keep you updated on this developing situation.
Anyone else staying at the Motel 6 by the Walmart? The beds are extra stiff and spiders are very friendly this year!
oh great. pretty sure thats the one my group will be at.
they don't come down early so they will be checking in tomorrow - however - I really wanted to see Matt the Electrician - who is opening the day - so I'm currently debating driving halfway there late tonight and spending the night in a motel 6 somewhere in CT that way i don't have to wake up at 5:30 to drive the 4 hours to the park. Gah! so many decisions.

Hi Folk! Longtime lurker, first time poster. Can someone please PM me the unannounced set? Also I might have two Clusterfolk tickets to trade for a pair of Sunday Deer Tick late nights if anyone is interested!
Caught Offa Rex at Town Hall last night. Took a little getting used to the fact they were not playing as the Decembrists -- although the had fun goofing on the whole concept. Olivia Chaney is absolutely incredible, with soaring vocals, especially on her Roberta Flack cover. She is also quite funny, and holds her own with Colin's banter. My favorite, their cover of Steeleye Span's "Sheep Crook and Black Dog," was harder edged and fuller than the album version.
So for those unsure, check out this soaring voice live as it melds English electric folk, Tull, Renaissance, REM, Fairport Convention.
Langhorne Slim tweeted that he is on a plane with John Prine coming to Newport... which means that John will be hanging out all weekend for the festival. In light of Jay Sweet's comment on the podcast that more people wanted to play in John Prine's set than didn't, I wouldn't be suprised to see John show up in several sets this weekend.
Am so excited. Hope to meet some of you this weekend.... starting tonight at Langhorne Slim!
a few questions a newbie to the DT late night shows, going Friday, cannot wait:
- what times do doors open/shows start? - are the announced guests (quahogs and big thief) in the case of Friday, playing full "opener" sets? - who's excited?
