would love to see arcade fire in their hometown next year
That would be amazing! But last time they toured, they played Parc on their own. Wonder if they would ever do Osheaga, or just keep doing their own shows at the same venue. Either way, I'll be at Osheaga and I guess I will have to plan a second Montreal trip if AF plays Parc again.

Are they planning on hosting their 2017 edition at Parc Jean Drapeau? It sounds like they wont be able to which could hurt the Osheaga brand.
Increased capacity and new renovations in 2018 will certainly be refreshing though. They plan to build an amphitheatre which I can only assume is where the main stages will be situated in future renditions of Osheaga.

I could see AF doing that Lolla/Osheaga crossover. They haven't played either fest since 2010 I think. Maybe 2011 for Osheaga. Either way if I'm still on the east coast this time next year I'm gonna make it a point to go!

I emailed them yesterday and just got a response. Apparently they are still planning on holding next years fest at Parc Jean Drapeau. Not sure what that means with the construction happening. Hopefully it doesn't effect the layout of the fest (which I think is one of the best parts) too much.

I think that they may end up moving over one island to where the Casino and Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is. This would probably give them enough space for 45,000 but it would no likely be as good of a set up as they have had in past years. At least this is only for one year.
I noticed that some people were kind of complaining about the food this year and I agree, it did not have the selection that they have had in years past. This is probably because of Osheaga and Bouffons Montreal/Just for Laughs overlapping this year. Many of the trucks that have been at Osheaga in past years were at Bouffons, which is understandable as they get great crowds for 2 weeks there as opposed to 3 days.
So the word is they're moving the festival to Notre Dame Island for the next two years while they do the reconstruction of the grounds. This is a much smaller venue that will greatly impact the festival. This is the translation of the article - it's a bit specific to the noise complaints that have been going on, but the broader implications are for a very different experience for the next two years.
"After a lull last summer, residents of Saint-Lambert will learn to compose with sound performances of Parc Jean-Drapeau in 2017 and 2018. The redevelopment of St. Helena Island site where the shows are presented musical force the move for the next two years of the Osheaga Festival and Montreal Heavy Île Notre-Dame, or even nearer residences.
Three sources told La Presse that the musical performances would move on the Gilles Villeneuve circuit. The main stage will be located in the corner of the sector pin. At least one other stage will be set up in the Floralies Gardens area, the heart of the race track. The speakers thus find 750 meters of houses of Saint-Lambert, rather than 1.5 km as the current site.
This announcement has caused concern in Saint-Lambert. "It's even closer than right now. The sound has no fence, it will cross live to us, "growls Hughes Létourneau, municipal councilor in Saint-Lambert.
The company evenko, which manages Osheaga and Heavy Montreal, did not return calls from The Press today about it. Instead, she released late in the day a statement to confirm the move.
The company explains that this movement "is necessary because of the start of construction of the development plan and development of Île Sainte-Hélène, whose work will be undertaken shortly." These works include the construction of a natural amphitheater.
Saint-Lambert regrets not having been consulted on this change of site. "This is the first news that we have," replied Mr. Létourneau, this morning when reached by The Gazette. Remember that Saint-Lambert is currently before the courts to try to stop her noise problems. His request for an interim injunction was denied. "If the problem worsens, for sure we will think about what we do," says Alderman.
Saint-Lambert would have preferred the shows moving in a parking lot of St. Helena Island facing Montreal. The sound of the speakers would have been blocked by the natural mound formed in the middle of the island.
Impossible to know whether arrangements have been made temporary site at evenko our calls about noise mitigation measures being unanswered.
sports federations billed water
The direction of Parc Jean-Drapeau warned in recent days users Olympic Basin on Île Notre-Dame that they could hold their competitions throughout the summer of 2017 and 2018. The ban was decided for easy installation of the shows to be held at the Notre-Dame Island.
The move shows a serious problem to sports federations that use the Olympic pool for 40 years. They will continue to keep their workouts during the week, but their competitions will be canceled or held in May or October.
Park management Jean -Drapeau offers them to move in May or October, which does not suit all organizations. Can not say the federations which emphasize that their competitions fit into a busy schedule. A meeting with the sports federations is scheduled for next week.
"I understand that we will not make a league together qu'Osheaga, but we could keep them at another time even if there are facilities in place," said Franck Gomez, of the Quebec Association of canoeing -Kayaking speed.
Parc Jean-Drapeau specifies that the range of activities Doré will not be disturbed by the move. It should thus remain accessible at all times."
I know this is out of Osheaga's control but I'll definitely be choosing a new festival next year to attend. I hope they can survive the next couple of years because this festival is amazing.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what the lineup looks like this year with the site changes. The exchange rate is still shit so that's a huge influence on my decision.

Evenko just announced they are doing a new edm festival next September in Montreal... Guessing the new location means they'll probably just cut the electronic stage from Osheaga entirely.
2021 08-07: Japanese Breakfast @ Union Transfer 09-08: My Morning Jacket / Brittany Howard @ The Mann 09-18: Soccer Mommy @ Union Transfer 10-01 thru 10-03: Austin City Limits Music Festival 10-19: Waxahatchee @ Union Transfer 10-27: Arlo Parks @ The Foundry 11-09: Squid @ Johnny Brenda's 11-17: Monophonics @ World Cafe Live 12-01: Caribou @ Union Transfer

Yeah I knew that... Just noticed they have a rendering of what Parc is going to look like after the construction is done on that site though... Looks like they are getting rid of a lot... Ugh. I loved the old set up.
Dont know how accurate this would be as Arcade typically does their own show in MTL, since its their home town and they get a huge crowd. Last tour (Reflektour) they close their tour on the same venue where Osheaga is held, believe they sold something 40-50k in tickets. Which is huge for Montreal Show.

If true, that's a great start. I wouldn't be surprised if Lolla and Osheaga share Kanye and Arcade Fire next year. Although Arcade Fire usually plays their own show, they haven't played Osheaga since 2010.
This time last year the thread didn't even exist yet, then once it did the Radiohead rumors started immediately, but the actual lineup wasn't released until the end of Feb.

Not too surprising, but it looks like Arkells will be there. My first time seeing them was at Osh 2012. They're always super fun!
I see a lot of the Oshega Presents concerts on Facebook. Does this mean they will be at the fest? How often is this true? They have RTJ ten days after Arkells/Frank Turner. Some RTJ and Frank Turner would be a good start for me.

It does not necessarily mean that they will be at the festival. It's just Osheaga presents. They do the same with HeavyMTL.
