So this suddenly became a possibility for me. I'm going to France on 6/8 and would love to try to swing a stay in Barcelona beforehand. Can anyone just give me a basic run down on the fest/costs? What's lodging like in the area? How's the venue? What's the schedule like?
Other people that have actually gone can probably give you better advice but from the research I've been doing for the last month this is what I've got.
The fest runs from Wednesday to Sunday but the three main days are Thursday, Friday, Saturday. I booked a room from Wednesday to Wednesday for like $350. I'd personally suggest checking out the Gothic district (that's where I'm staying) because it's a little cheaper and seems like it's in a cool part of the city. It's a couple miles from the venue but there's a metro thing that runs right to the venue from there. The only issue would be that the metro stops running from 2AM to 5AM every night. The main stages of the fest run from like 4PM to 5 or 6 AM though so that shouldn't really be an issue unless you're trying to leave early.

Festival itself is pretty cheap, but I believe full-weekend passes have sold out. They're selling day passes soon, I think sometime this week, but I believe the secondary market is pretty alright. If you're diligent you can probably grab a full weekend pass for face.
Hard to say about lodging, but the year I went (2015) we rented an AirBnb within walking distance for a relatively cheap price. I've found that the most expensive cost to this fest is travel. Food is pretty meh, but nothing more or less expensive than fests in America. You can always eat before going in thanks to the late starting schedule. Festival merch was pretty cheap and high quality. Beer is way cheaper too.
The festival itself is awesome. Don't even worry about it. Schedule is great, but expect tons of clashes just because every act they book is good. The venue itself is unofficially divided between the two main stages and the rest of the fest. Its maybe a ten to fifteen minute walk between the two areas at most. Be sure to catch the penultimate set at the RayBan amphitheater. Ratatat and Caribou in 2015 were my two favs and they both played that slot. The only real challenge is the auditorium which tends to fill up quickly depending on the act. If you're interested in acts that will almost inevitably play that stage like Annette Peacock, The Zombies, and Seu Jorge (and you should be interested in all of them) you should be ready to wait a bit. Free shows on the Sunday after the fest were pretty easy to get in to. We managed to see SOAK and My Brightest Diamond before crossing the street and seeing Jambinai and Thee Oh Sees. This is all with regular GA tickets.

what do you mean by penultimate RayBan set?
And the Auditorium is an indoor venue within the festival I'm guessing?
FYI the sound at the Pitchfork Stage is god awful. Its right on the water and the winds are usually pretty strong and absolutely kill the sound. It drove me crazy last year. I literally could hear better standing up on top of the stairs above and behind the stage.
I'm not sure if anyone else here is actually going to Primavera but Rufus Wainright is playing a show in Barcelona on Monday June 1st. I'll probably try to check that out.

I just bought my plane ticket!
Sorry totally spaced on responding to this! Ratatat and Caribou were both second to last on the Rayban as a DJ (Andrew Weatherall and DJ Coco) closed out the stage. I was hesitant to call them subs because it felt more like a headlining set.

And I thought I couldn't get any more jealous of people going to this festival

I'm going.
June 1st is a Thursday (first big day of PS). Per RW's website, Monday he is playing Norway and Friday he is playing Greece. It would be awesome if Tue or Wed he was playing in Barcelona, but I am not confident after looking at his schedule that he will.
Kiasmos, Jackmaster and Alexis Taylor are sweet adds, but yeah most of that was already there.
I realized after I posted. FACT made it seem that it was huge additions. Either way, if the area is where I was at for the Pro stage, get excited. I never wanted to leave that area.

is it far away from the rest of the venue?
Yes
Last year it was way on the opposite side of the festival, across a bridge and on its on little piece of land next to the ocean. It's about a 20min walk from the two main stages.

wait is that the beach stage? Is this the same thing as the beach stage?

I assumed it was since it mentioned the speakers, the same that was the big sponsor at last year's beach stage.

I just realized he was talking about the Pro stage. That stage really is amazing. Just a tiny stage with concrete sitting right down by the water, away from everything. It's closest to the two main stages. However, it is the beach stage that is way way far away on the opposite side of the festival.
