I know I've posted a lot in this thread but I'm procrastinating studying. Think this fest would be interested in Arcade Fire? Ugh that would make it 100 percent for me. Tom Petty/ Arcade Fire/ The Lumineers/ Childish Gambino

This seems a little unrealistic for this fest to me.

Me too. Tom Petty/ Arcade Fire/ The Lumineers/ Shovels & Rope make way more sense if we were to have that top two. I do hope they get RTJ as hip hop on the lineup
I hope Petty isn't on the bill for personal reasons. He is already playing Mountain Jam which I am likely to go to and if he is here, there is less chance I make it to Louisville.

I have missed RTJ at other fests so that would be great for me.

not that this means anything but they skipped KY on their tour.

I can't make it to Forecastle next year (family wedding), but I'm hoping the lineup bounces back. Last year did nothing for me, and the year before was just ok.

By the way, I was in Louisville last Friday and I got to say hello to Jim James at some bar named Freddie's sometime after his show. He was really nice, and he gave me a fist bump, even though I was obviously out of my head. I hope either he or MMJ appear on the 2017 lineup. His solo stuff translates really well live.

MMJ will be on the road next summer, but I wonder if Forecastle would go back to the well so quickly on another headlining slot from them. I could certainly see a Petty-MMJ-____ top three moving a lot of tickets in Louisville.
Having said that, I have absolutely no reason to believe Petty will be playing Forecastle other than the dates of both announcements lining up. I am hoping if I reeeeally believe it, I can just kinda will this into happening.
Passed on Hangout Fest tickets today to holdout and see what Forecastle has to offer this year since I live in Louisville. I know that most of these bands are unrealistic, but here is my wishlist (in no particular order) for the lineup Tuesday. I just want to see ANY TWO of these acts on the top line and I'll be there:
Florence and the Machine Mumford and Sons The Black Keys 21 Pilots Weezer Foo Fighters The Killers Dave Matthews Band Any good rap artist (Kendrick)
Other Bands I would like to see on the list: Jim James, Cage the Elephant,The Lumineers, Tom Petty (not sure how I would feel about a "legend" act though)
Think there is any chance I can see two of these acts show up Tuesday?

There's a lot I am curious about but don't know where to begin. I guess I'll begin with you don't know how to feel about a "legend" like Petty? Also I don't think Florence will be an option. Also please keep 21p away. I saw them before Outkast in 14 and they were so gimmicky and shitty. I hope Weezer wouldn't be on the top line. I guess that's a good start.

Yeah, so what I meant by that was I'm not sure I am interested in seeing someone who is past their prime put on a bad performance. I love Tom Petty's music, but I have read elsewhere that his show at Hangout fest in 2013 was terrible. However, I will say that Robert Plant falls into the legend category and he was awesome at Forecastle a few years ago. Some people are pretty bad as they get older (Ex: Paul McCartney), but others' voices hold up fine. It just makes me nervous, nothing worse than seeing someone try to hit notes that they used to hit but just can't anymore.
As for 21 pilots, I must have been wasted, because I saw them perform before Outkast and thought they put on a great show. Weezer is underrated. They could be a second line band, but since they are on the second line at Hangout, I think they would probably be a headliner for Forecastle. This festival confuses me though, and I never know what to expect from their lineups. They can clearly get the big names/high priced acts (Outkast, Beck, Jack White, Sam Smith, The Black Keys), but they seem content to stay small and not become one of the bigger festivals.

First want to say didn't mean to come off as a dick. Feel like I have more so lately. But anyway I saw Petty at Roo for a bit that year and thought it was great. I'd imagine he still is. And I want to see him again. I' love Weezer and I think they'd be a great second line. My hopes are for a big act like Petty then somebody a little more rare (like Bon Iver) and then their traditional folky are rivals, typical rock act (like Wilco). 2014 was also my first time listening to 21p and it just didn't connect with me at all. I'd be happy with some of the acts you mentioned. Don't look for Foo Fighters, Flo, or DMB there next year though.
Petty & The Heartbreakers or Roger Waters / Kendrick, Gambino, or J Cole / Alison Krauss & Union Station Jim James Wilco Run The Jewels
J Cole isn't playing, no way they booked waters and Wilco has and would headline this fest. Out of what you suggested I would say best case top line would look like
Still holding out hope for MMJ. If any festival lands Petty and MMJ, I will not be able to buy tickets fast enough. Hell, I'll buy extra tickets juuuuuuuust in caaaase.

Florence just spent two years touring HBHBHB, and she's got nothing planned for 2017 besides recording. I'd say she's out. Foo Fighters are touring Europe next summer (seriously, are they EVER going to headline something other than Firefly, Hangout, or Lolla?), and DMB are taking a year off I believe.
I thought Mumford would be a long shot, but it looks like they're doing a few NA festivals next summer.

MMJ is rumored for Mountain Jam, and Petty is already a headliner. So it's possible.

Where are you seeing rumors of MMJ at Mountain Jam?
