1 - LCD - just fantastic. Better experience than wknd 2 coachella last year. 2 - Sturgill Simpson - musicianship blew me away. Heard most of my favorites. 3 - Run the Jewels - my favorite of the three times i've seen them. Killer Mike was so happy, it was great. 4 - Spoon - Tight. I got Beast & Dragon, Underdog and Rent I Pay for my first Spoon show. Im happy. 5 - Weezer - Really fun and chill way to end the weekend.

LCD was my favorite. Spoon was fantastic as always. Charles Bradley was fun. He made his way into the crowd handing out roses and hugs. Good stuff.
Spoon's setlist
1. Do I have to talk you into it 2. Inside out 3. Can I Sit next to you 4. Beast and Dragon, adored 5. Hot Thoughts 6. Don't you evah 7. Do you 8. I ain't the one 9. Anything you want ? 10. I turn camera on 11. My mathematical mind 12. The Underdog 13. Rent I Pay
Driving home after another fun Forecastle. My favorite sets were: 1 Spoon. Great, super high energy show that really had the crowd moving after a long weekend. The new material also sounded strong in a live setting. 2 LCD Soundsystem. Huge dance party. Nuff said. 3 Sturgill Simpson. Such a great performer - with a top notch band. 4 Run the Jewels. Fun. 5 Conor Oberst. Loved the setlist. Rollicking festival set.

am i the only one that thought weezer's sound (& set) were god fucking awful last night? i was up front after pj harvey (who was amazing) & we bailed after perfect situation because of how abysmal the sound was. & i wasn't too hot on that outkast cover either

Finally back in NJ and I had an absolute blast! Wanted to share a few thoughts about my first Forecastle.
Pros: By far the cleanest and most laid back festival I've ever been to. Never had any issues with lines, bathrooms, water, security, etc. Sound was great at every stage (didn't see any shows at the Ocean Stage). Tons of friendly people throughout the fest. Also loved all of the local Louisville pride from fans and the fest, especially as someone who had never been to Kentucky before.
Cons: Really don't have any complaints. If I had to nitpick, the lack of shade made things tricky, but we made it work. Wish there was a little more art too.
Favorite shows: LCD Soundsystem, Run the Jewels, Spoon, Sturgill Simpson, PJ Harvey, Big Thief, Cage the Elephant.
Overall, I would recommend this festival to anyone who's looking for a scaled down and relaxed environment in a really, really great city.

You are not the only one as I also bailed early on Weezer. No hate towards Weezer, but just not my idea of a festival closer. I went in with an open mind knowing from past experience, (Beck doing an epic job closing the Hangout Festival), that I may find Weezer would be the best act of the weekend. Not the case this time, the vocals were terribly low and the set lacked consistent energy. We weren't the only people leaving, I stayed at Aloft a block away from the festival, (highly recommend), and saw several other festival goers at the bar for some farewell Kentucky bourbon.
Like others have mentioned, security was chill, staffers were chill, Bourbon lodge was good, crowd was diverse and nice. The VIP area had clean A/C bathrooms and a tent with a bar and A/C. VIP viewing areas on the two main stages were fine, but during the Spoon set it filled up to the point security would not allow anyone else in. This speaks to how good the Spoon set was in my opinion. I put my nine year old daughter on my shoulders during RTJ, (her favorite group), and security scolded me. Kind of a bummer for her, but that is what they were directed to do as I saw it throughout the festival and other festivals I have been to. Thanks lawyers. I wish they offered full pours of beer at the local craft beer tents.
I second the recommendation of this festival to anyone. You can walk in and out of the festival to great food too.
Also, the festival bracelets aren't the type they scan. I was on the rail for Phantogram and saw two guys with Artist bracelets who weren't artists trying to get backstage. The Axis security guy figured them out immediately. He eventually got them to confess right there on how they got the arm bands. One of the kids' mother was at the Louisville airport returning home and was given the armbands from band members leaving Louisville. The security guy let them go and I saw them the following day behind the rail at the Xambassadors set dancing. Funny stuff.
The set lists and performances for LCD and Spoon were as good as it gets. So happy with this experience.

I stayed at Weezer but I was underwhelmed, especially after reports from Hangout said they were amazing. LCD ruled the weekend. But Sturgill, RTJ and Spoon were all fantastic. I was kinda underwhelmed with PJ Harvey but maybe she's just not for me. Kinda wish I'd waited and gotten an awesome spot for Spoon cause it was packed.
And you're totally right on the local beer places not being able to give full beers. What is that? Its like if the beer tent at bonnaroo ONLY had the little samples. Not a fan. I love Against the Grain's beer and it was disappointing they had like a 3 oz pour of one option.
It's also amazing how close you can get for this festival. Without really trying, just walking up after Nathaniel Rateliff, I was about 5th row for Sturgill. Same with RTJ after Capital Cities ended. My brother got within 3 rows of Weezer and LCD.
So yeah, great Forecastle. My favorite since the year with Outkast*Beck*Jack White. I'll be back next year (in part so I can get a 2017 shirt at the merch tent for $10.)
Anybody stay at the Galt House or know what the walk to the fest from there is like? That was a fun place to stay back when the fest was next door.
Too bad Weezer wasn't good for whatever reason because they were fantastic at HO. Also hope ya'll got the same level Sturgil show we got at Sloss which was a 10.
I may early bird this one next year. It's been a long while and the timing is always good for us.

It's easy - 10 min walk tops, under the freeway (shade!)
I thought Sturgill's set was great. I didn't move from my spot for the rest of the evening after they started. Sun wasn't that bad out on the main field at that moment.
Sad to see weezer wasn't good here. I thought they were amazing at firefly.
Ididnt think they were bad. Just okay. I really enjoyed Say It Aint So. But sometimes felt like they were going thru the motions.
They absolutely just go through the motions through many of their older hits. Their set at Riot Fest a few years back was a giant roller coaster of them being into it and them just looking straight forward and getting through the song. Luckily, their last two album were decent so they are putting energy into some good songs again. Also their sound at festivals is another extreme hit and miss. They still do their own soundcheck usually and for whatever reason they aren't usually on the same page with whoever's working the board with the fest. I'm Nick and I was once upon a time a Weezer fanatic. I'm sorry.

My Top 5 - (1) Sturgill, and I'm a rocker - This MF Rocks - (2) Cage The Elephant - (3) Spoon - (4) Conner Oberst - (5) K Flay Honorable Mention - Weezer - Needtobreathe - John Moreland - The Shelters - Joseph - Charles Bradley
I'm sorry to say, I didn't make it to LCD, long hot day and all that I had indulged in, it was clearly time to regroup at our room. Biggest disappointments - Easily was Judah & The Lion, sound was awful - PJ Harvey wasn't what I expected.
Biggest Surprise - Joseph, went because my wife wanted to see them and they we're really good. - John Moreland & X Ambassadors we're both better than expected. X Rocked and John is just F---ing good.
