AEG Live books Brooklyn Steel, MHOW, Terminal 5, Rough Trade, PlayStation Theatre, Webster Hall (or whatever the new name is gonna be), Bowery Ballroom (for now), and Mercury Lounge (for now as well)
LN books Irving Plaza, Warsaw, Gramercy Theatre (though there is rumor it might switch to AEG), Hammerstein Ballroom (not sure about this one)
Interpol used to play the Merc back in the day as well.
I think LN buying all these places sucks, but they're just buying real estate and a brand. All of these bands that "made it big" in the pre-MySpace (!!!) era had vastly different promotional tools at their disposal. Someone will find a new place and a new platform. NYC always finds a way. People waxed poetic about the Fillmore East closing. And CBGBs. Life goes on.
Wait, we've stopped waxing poetic about CBGBs closing? Damn, I totally missed that memo.
Its Jay Z, RHCP, Gorillaz, and Future in New York City. It is selling very well.
It's good to be occasionally reminded that New Yorkers are just as fucking basic as the rest of the country.
Outside of Future I wouldn't consider this lineup or headliner group "basic". Gorillaz and Jay-Z are great gets. RHCP is stale yeah but the lack of rock headliners in past 5 years makes them all pretty stale by now. If it's not RHCP, it's Arcade Fire/Killers/GreenDay/Mumford. Either you book the mainstream rock act or you book Bjork or QOTSA as a headliner and see your sales take a big hit.
Jay-Z will have hit every major market by the end of this tour. It's essentially the same top line as ACL. I'd prefer a fest risk some of that profit and grab a QOTSA/Bjork instead.

No NYC fest in their right mind would turn down the chance to book Jay Z, even with that Barclays run and a full tour.
Gov Ball booked Tool which is probably about as risky as any fest booking huge headliners will get.
The other risks you'll see will be with rising artists who (they hope) will be bonafide headliners moving forward.
As great as a QOTSA or Bjork headlining set would be, and it would be fucking great, it's not the level Founders is aiming for with these fests. That's the spot Pano seemed to be trying fill this year and I hope they continue going down that route and let GB and Meadows be the big guns.

I dunno if I would call booking Tool risky per say, as they'll almost always draw, but I do appreciate their reemergence in the fest scene. RHCP just looks so damn boring on any bill at this point.

THIS I will agree with. I wouldn't shed a tear if they called it quits. Unfortunately I think they'll be a mainstay for quite a long time.

Jay-Z is cool and all, but he's been putting out almost exclusively trash since the Black Album, and by "almost" I mean supposedly his new album is good but if an album drops on Tidal and no one is there to hear it does it make a sound?

Watch The Throne is amazing
Jay's verses were not the best part of that album.

That's what I expected as well... but loudie isn't just a regular giveaway. I've never seen big tix on there for fests that are selling well...
I have no idea what Loudie is lol. Sponsors tend to get a handful of tix to giveaway and hype their brand.
If you see sponsors giving away a ton of tickets; like say a radio station or department store giving away tix every hour on the hour for an extended period of time (like what happened with another NY fest) that is referred to as "papering the house." It happens when tix arent moving and they don't want artists playing to a completely empty venue. It also mitigates their losses: better to give away freebies and hope they make something off concessions/bar at that point.

Of course, but Loudie is totally different. Loudie is an iPhone app that gives users free tickets to undersold events... no contest at all you just click "claim tickets" - as far as I know, they're not associated with the fest at all (no sponsorship). The other fests I've seen on there were Firefly (this year) and that PA fest that was canceled (can't remember the name). Similar to jukely, but it's free for users and they don't do venue partnerships, just based on events with excess stock.

I'm sad that I still haven't listened to it, but I don't care enough to go through the process of finding it.
