Doesnt Coachella have a Heineken House stage every year? I know Firefly has a "Coffee House powered by Stubhub" stage so not sure why they are being brought up. Bonnaroo has a Miller Lite On Tap stage.
One out of 4 stages at Meadows is named after a sponsor (the smallest one). This is a pretty dumb topic.
They do, but I think the general feel is people aren't fans of the flagship stages being named after corporations. This is a big problem at Lolla IMO and contributes to a fest losing its identity.

The flagship stages are The Meadows and Shea stages. The other two are not nearly as big.
However, at Governors Ball one of the flagship stages is the Honda Stage.. And it sounds great.
I remember people on here complaining for years about the Which Stage.. Personally I would have been totally fine if they changed the name to "Which Stage presented by.." or heck even if they started calling it "The Pepsi Stage," if it meant sets like Buffalo Springfield were not ruined by production issues.
People buy tickets for the music. Not the names of stages. And if sponsorship can enhance the musical experience or allow for more investment in ways to make the fest better, I am totally for that. I do not see this as a problem at all.

Lolla having new stage names seemingly every year is flat out confusing. It felt like I was having endless discussions along the lines of "going to the Pepsi Stage" "which one is that?" "the one in the woods, used to be the Grove Stage" "ok, meet me at the Tito's Handmade Vodka stage after" "the fuck is that?"
But overall, sponsorships don't bother me, unless they directly affect who is actually being booked. Just make people do long term deals for stage names.

I know they renamed it for the fest, but just call it the Petrillo Band Shell. You know, its actual name.

I have to say I'm a little surprised at how invested people are in the names of the stages. I say that without judgment - it's just not something I expected. Like, is your enjoyment of a really killer set affected if the stage on which it's played is called the AT&T Stage, or something?

Maybe it's just me, but why isn't Nas closing Sunday? Like I know RHCP are big name, but Nas is just as big in the rap world. Most of all, it's his return performance, in his hometown, in a year where he's slated to drop his first album in 5 years. Don't get me wrong, I'm really glad he's not clashing with RHCP as now I'll get to see both, but honestly he should be.

I love Nas, but in no world (rap or otherwise) is he just as big as RHCP.

How is it a "return performance"? Didn't he play Barclays like...last year?

Is closing a stage like that even really desirable?
IIRC, the Meadows Stage is bigger and nicer than the Shea Stage. If I'm Nas, I'd rather sub-headline the main stage then play against RHCP on a smaller stage with a smaller crowd. It's the same on Saturday where Future has a much more desirable situation than M.I.A.

Idk, im not a performer and have never played live music, but I think there is a lot of appeal to having a set that is more filled with fans that know most of your songs and will sing along than a larger crowd with some large segment being disinterested.

Yeah it's an interesting question. I would think that some artists like festivals because it allows them to perform in front of a larger crowd and try to win over some new fans. Almost like a try-out. They all have full tours of their own to play in front of their die-hards.
But since I'm not a performer I really have no idea.

I think there's definitely a curve there in terms of artist popularity and reach. I'm not sure Nas is all that worried about gleaning new fans from random festivalgoers, whereas, say, my band would murder someone to play the third stage at 1 PM on Friday on the off chance that some curious randos might decide to check us out.
I wouldn't assume that. They fully sold out a day last year and were able to pull a really impressive lineup this year IN MY OPINION. I don't think anyone outside of this thread considers this a failed venture. Maybe they could've kept it at two days for another year or so, but this can stick around for a little while especially if they continue to skew more towards hip-hop IN MY OPINION.
Anyway, really looking forward to Sky Ferreira. Anyone see her live before? And can Jay please blow past curfew like he did at MIA?

Hey gang, pumped for this festival. Can anyone give any good recommendations for housing for the festival or point me towards a good resource. My brother and I (plus maybe a few friends) are driving up from Virginia for the weekend. We are looking for a decently cheap place relatively accessible to the festival and where a car would not be an issue. I know that's quite the tall order. Anyways I appreciate the help and hope y'all enjoy the festival

Go with an airbnb. The 7 train will get you directly to the fest, so anywhere close to that line would be cool. If you are going with a bunch of ppl splitting an apartment for the weekend shouldnt be too bad. Parking a car will be an issue though. Hopefully you can find street parking or a garage close to your rental.

The fact that this thing appears to be very undersold is actually great.
There's not a ton of space in that Parking Lot, so any additional breathing room would be welcomed. I was only there Saturday last year but the crowdedness of Sunday sounded scary.

Really wasn't that bad unless you insist on being close.
