Dirty Projectors just got announced as the Northside headliner yesterday.. The headliner of another NYC fest isnt going to play again for a competitor 3 months later.
I'd prefer Kendrick or ATCQ, but a rap lineup of Future/Travis Scott/Big Sean/Migos/Joey Badass would probably move a lot of tickets for the crowd they're targeting.
It'd make sense they'd bring back Lana after the horrid Gov Ball performance in '15... whether it was truly technical difficulties or not it was still such a letdown.
Does anyone else find it odd she hardly EVER tours North America? She's played NYC a grand total of 3 times since 2012 (Bowery Ballroom, Irving Plaza (multiple dates), Gov Ball). The demand is clearly there, just find it odd even if she can't sing that well and the live show is pretty mediocre.

I don't think it's odd, it's smart. Instead of being a typical festival act like The Killers or Matt & Kim that play 3-4 festivals every summer no matter what their touring schedule or album release cycle looks like, she takes her time and properly spaces out performances. This creates demand and it helps festivals that book her by giving them a "get".

Didn't she have a major amphitheater tour with Hole around Gov Ball? The problem with her Gov Ball performance wasn't the performance, it was that the mix was so slow that you could be within the first twenty or so rows and still hear the Black Keys from across the island.

That's a good way to look at it. It's so hard for NYC-area festivals to have big "gets" since most acts play here at least twice on each album cycle.
Drake/ LDR/ Future makes a lot of sense. I also wouldn't go
Indie/Alt/"Rock" acts I think might make sense for this:
Bastille (have The 1975's spot from last year) Milky Chance Fitz & The Tantrums Jimmy Eat World (doubtful but one can hope) Weezer Imagine Dragons (don't count them out, they've been suspiciously absent from the festivals this year and just released a new single)

I don't know if festivals are going to go the Imagine Dragons route. Only Wayhome has done it so far this year and got panned. There are rumors it might even get cancelled.
Arcade Fire and Gorillaz are still on the table for this as far as headliners.

A lot of headliner options: Jay and Eminem have overseas headlining dates, Kendrick, Arcade Fire, and LCD Soundsystem all have albums dropping soon. Drake just dropped a new one. 21 Pilot Muse and Mumford don't have anything scheduled in the city yet. Foo Fighters and Green Day are around. Maybe Kanye can finish last years set. Gorillaz obviously just dropped some tracks. KoL and Killers are always possible. Maybe theyll promote someone like Future, The xx, or Bon Iver. Could be something totally unexpected like Jack White, Vampire Weekend, Arctic Monkeys, or Black Keys.

This is really wide open.
Kings Of Leon are playing Jones Beach and PNC AND tickets appear to be not selling well. Bon Iver played 10 area dates in Dec which makes me think he is gearing up for either a big festival appearance or finally stepping into arenas. Gorillaz seem....not relevant to the festival going crowd but maybe I'm out of touch? Green Day would make a ton of sense for this (and probably not as expensive as some of the other headliners).

Gorillaz are highly relevant in that they'd be a big draw. I'm not sure they're going to show up on bills though. They could do a night or two in major market arenas instead.

I can't imagine Gorillaz first festival back on the trail is the Meadows... right? That just doesn't feel right. I'm totally going up that day if that's the case though.

New Drake is actually pretty great. Passionfruit is so chill. Also really dig that track Get it Together with Black Coffee... Not that I am saying he'll be there.

It's nuts how many times I've played this song since last Friday when I first heard it. Silly.

Its funny, my sister loves Drake, but thinks this new album is boring. I think its the best thing he has ever put out.
I'm not a fan of Drake. I find the album super boring. I def enjoyed "If you're reading this..." more. As far as hip hop goes both GoldLink and Raekwon put out better albums recently.

You definitely aren't alone in that opinion... This album is way more R&B than hip hop I think.

IMO it's his best work since IYRTITL, but that's not saying much since WATTBA and Views are both trash.
I think it's good, not great. Some dope tracks like Passionfruit and Free Smoke, but tons of filler and faux-repping of whatever culture or city he feels entitled to exploit next.
