Me too. Me and JUICY JAY were talking last week (he was doing back to back Austin shows also) trying to figure out how many times we've seen them. I was somewhere between 14-16 and he's right there too. And it's not like they're my favorite band or anything, I just rather see them live that most bands that blow through. Last I saw them (kind of) was at the Voodoo set. My brains cables were axed but I remember loving it. Haha. Thanks for the good word.
It's the last announced show of the tour, and it's fn Axe the Cables. I found it on their twitter video announcement. This is fucking beautiful. Hopefully tickets will go on sale soon. I have to get them and Muse now. Let me know if you hear about tickets.
STS9 aka Sound Tribe Sector 9 aka Tribe shows are announced
As guessed, they will be playing The Joy on the first Saturday and first Sunday.
That leaves moe. open for Friday. I'll be at both of these shows no matter who else is playing in town. It's a little disappointing to miss Break Science Live and Russ Liquid, but I try not to ever miss STS9.
i admit i was starting to doubt your sources. i might have to make the drive over for this. maybe saturday. axe the cables sounds rad, but probably cooler for more hardcore fans, which i am not. i go for the electronic groove.

Haha. My sources are generally pretty good, and I'll usually put in a disclaimer as to whether or not I have a certain confidence level in that source when reporting something. It depends on who it is and where they heard it. I know some people on street teams for festivals and bands. I know some people that work or manage at certain venues and tip me off. Some other people go by hearsay. I asked my connection for this show last night and like I said on the last page, he reiterated to me that it was definite. The problem was where did they fit, if they were going to play the Joy which is where they always play when they're in town. And it could only have been those two open nights that they got.
Tickets go on sale Monday at 9:00am. It's Ticketfly so the $35 is going to be $44. Show is at 10. Axe the Cables is at 9 but they don't have pricing options yet.
What does this all mean for Weekend 1? I'll probably only be able to go to moe. with Turkuaz on the first Friday night. Break Science is out ( ). I'll probably only go to Jazz Fest that weekend on the first Friday though if JUICY JAY comes in and wants to do Saturday and/or Sunday, I can make my way with some of the smaller acts. Shoot me a PM if you decide to roll in, particularly if you're coming in on your own. I know I can't buy you a drink, but we would totally be down to get you a coffee or something non-alkie of your choice.

So my JF is scaled back and looking like this so far: 1st weekend: Sat only: Lurk outside the fest on Gentilly to listen to the Shakes > Meters @ Orpheum
2nd weekend: Thurs: Fest > Foundations of Funk Sun: Fest
Obv theme of catching as much Meters as possible. Also committed to doing the FoF show w/ Anders in a couple weeks at Tips. My girl and I decided to scale back our show intake but want to catch as much of the Meters as we can while we can.
First Weekend Friday (fest) - Trey Anastasio band/NAS with Soul Rebels Friday (after) - moe. Saturday - STS9 Sunday - STS9 Axe The Cables ^^^^^^ Still waiting for some 2am shows that weekend to see if I want to go out after Tribe and may or may not go to the fest each day.
Second Weekend Thursday (fest) - WSP Friday - Joe Russo's Almost Dead (might sell) Saturday (fest) - Snoop Dog Saturday (after) - Joe Russo's Almost Dead (might sell), The New Mastersounds @ 2am Sunday (fest) - Meters & Buddy Guy
I've got my JRAD tickets, and I know moe. won't sell out for a few weeks. This week I need to get my Muse tickets, ATDI (just to have them) and then the STS9 tickets on Monday when they go on sale. Those probably won't sell out, but I'm not taking a chance.

My gang went ahead and bought tickets for this and the second mastersounds show. Wednesday we are debating James brown's birthday vs wolfman. Only going second weekend - if I skip a day of the fest it will likely be that Friday
WTF's up with the Tribe tickets? I got the email while I was at Passport Office, and got back to my desk and it says both nights are sold out. F. No way. There has to be a glitch.

on the joy's site it says on sale is monday 2/13 at 9am.
Yeah, I saw that. And I emailed Tribe back. Either they only had a limited number of pre-sale tickets or it's a glitch. Every other show is available. And although the Joy is probably one of the smallest venues they'll play on the tour, they MUST have tickets for me for both nights. I'll post their reply whenever I get it.

Not sure what you're looking at, but check through Joy's website. I just added a two-day GA pass to my cart to see if it was available.

Theset tribe shows are going to be legendary just saw 2 nights in Chicago and they were some old school heaters. l bought tickets today and realized it was during jazz fest so it's a win win 🤘🏻
LOL but they will be Top 1 and Top 2 of the weekend. Maybe New Mastersounds late night Saturday will rate, and obviously the Meters 50th will be killer.
FWIW, MUSE presale is 10:00. Password is "Showtime" but at 10:00
I've def seen them enough. If I was blind I would think they sucked even more as their light rig is (was) the most interesting part of their shows.
They are talented musicians for sure, and I like the girl on bass now, but to me STS9 was only really interesting around 2004. The direction they went doesn't do it for me at all, and the same goes for that whole genre. I had a lot of fun from like '09-'11 with that kind of stuff but I de-wooked considerably since then.
That said, if I'm at a fest and they are there I always check them out (That Hangout set being the last time I think), but I def am not spending money on headlining shows after the disappointing JF late night at Mardi Gras World several years back. Really kicked myself for not going to Mickey Hart Band that night. I blame Longinus.

I only have seen Primus there. It's rare they do shows anymore, but every once in a while...
I'm 90% sure I'm going to do moe. and Turkuaz that Friday night at Civic.
As for late night, The Joy hasn't announced if they're going to do any 2am shows that weekend. They have the two New Mastersounds shows the following weekend. I've got to guess that with Break Science Live Band in town Saturday, that there will be some kind of super jam or something at Joy for 2am. I'd like to catch The Motet on that Saturday 2am at Tipitina's, but it's the other side of town & I won't be driving. If Gravity A picks up a late night show at Blue Nile or Maison that Friday or Saturday, I might try to go see them. But it's still the waiting game for like half the night shows at this point. Most of them are lower/middle card acts, but I'm okay with those types of shows.
Tribe at a venue seems to be an almost entirely different and than Tribe booked a fest. Not a knock against them, but when they have no time restriction it seems like they go for more jam based songs, mixing of songs, ect, being able to control energy levels and feel out the crowds.

They've said that in interviews before. Festival shows are more to gain new fans and aren't typically good but headlining shows tend to be way better

And since it's "jazz fest" they will probably play their older(better) stuff than the stinky last few albums

Plus we get mfn Axe the Cables which I think they only do a couple a year if that. Can wait, piss in the cornflakes or not.
