Sorry if I missed it but do we have a complete list of who the top acts will be this year? Sub headliners?
Obviously I've gone through and seen names listed but I didn't know if someone had made a mock lineup of what we know so far?
Last year was my first year and I had a blast. Looking to go again this year.
Thanks.
Don't get excited yet, but these were the rumors from a few weeks ago:
Paul McCartney, Dead & Co, Stevie Wonder, Snoop Dogg, Kings of Leon, Pitbull, Nas, Lorde, Alabama Shakes, Wilco, Tom Petty, Dave Matthews, The Meters, Dr. John, Trey Anastasio Band, Widespread Panic
But there have been rumblings that the lineup is delayed because they are having a hard time finalizing a top name, which we are assuming means no McCartney. Similarly Dead & Co doesn't make any sense because their tour doesn't start until the end of May, so Jazzfest would be a random one off, not to mention Bob Weir has a solo show in New Orleans the week before the weekend before jazzfest.
In the good news about those rumors department Tom Petty is pretty much confirmed, I think he mentioned it in a interview last Fall or something. Trey Band is logical due to tour dates, and members of TAB are already booked to play night shows in the area (although members of TAB are pretty much always in New Orleans during jazzfest).
As for the rest of the rumored names they seem reasonable, but we have no secondary sources to believe they are real. Having said that, the above list originally came from some folks on PT that typically know what they are talking about.
anywho we'll know for sure tomorrow when the lineup is released.
LMFAO. Tell me that's an autocorrect for fais do do! hahahahaha The older you get the less fast doo doo... ------- I run around all day. Often I have friends that camp all day at Acura, so I can just find them at some point and post up for the bigger shows. But there's too much greatness all over the FG's to miss the other main stages and smaller stages. Last year I saw some cool brass at Economy Hall, T-Ray the Violinist (and his band) covering Jean Luc Ponty at Jazz & Heritage Stage; big rap acts at Congo Square (Janelle Monae, J. Cole, Ms. Lauryn Hill); a few bands at Gentilly, Jazz Tent, Blues Tent and even a fantastic set at Lagniappe Stage in the racehorse paddock. The only stage I didn't visit was the one upstairs in the grandstands. I've never been up there (obviously we go up there all the time when we're betting on horses, but I mean jazzfest).
Also, lineup is blocked. I tried to get to it, and it wants a user name and password. Sadly I don't have that.
I never understood how Janelle Monae went from playing Gentilly before Florence in 2012 to the Congo Square stage in 2016. I feel like that is Congo is a smaller stage.
I'm not really sure. The stages are about the same size but Gentilly overall may be bigger because that side has all the front side curve of the track that it's a much bigger overall area even if the grassy spots might be similar in size.
Joe Walsh has first Friday and second Sunday open and is in the SE. He's on tour with Petty many of the dates. He has always been my favorite Eagle BY FAR and the only one I'd really care to see outside of if I just saw Eagles. But I liked a lot of his solo shit like Meadows where everyone else would dig Rocky Mt Way. I'll for sure see Joe if it's a day I go.

I'd love a dose of The Dead in NOLA. Petty would be fun and I'm always down for sets from Nas, Wilco, Meters, and Dr. John. Stevie would be sweet. Having seen Macca at Coachella and Roo, I wouldn't be heartbroken if he isn't on the lineup, though it is always a magical experience. I'm feeling pretty good about Jazz Fest over Roo and the late nights will be much better. Also, the French Quarter seems nearly as consequence free as The Farm. #vibez
Yeah. Vibes are a ticket these days, but they don't really write them. Nas with Soul Rebels is still my top 1 Congo Square want, but a return of Public Enemy or rain check Snoop Dog will get me there on those days.

I was just thinking about how I've never seen Wilco do You Satellite live or any of the material from Star Wars live for that matter. I have the download of them doing the complete album at Pitchfork and it's a fire set.

I think the only biggest names we know 95% are Panic on the Thursday date, and Trey Band on the first Friday and whenever Petty plays. There are other acts that will likely be there that are in that bigger list postjack got from PT. Wilco is all but guaranteed with your boy opening for MM&W. Speara said he thought it was pretty certain that Nas/Soul Rebels was happening.
Beyond that you figure all the typical bigger zydeco acts will be there like every year. Also the local stuff - Kermit Ruffins, Shorty & Orleans Ave., GPJr, Anders, Big Sam, etc will likely all be there.
Edit I'm not sure if Trey Band will subheadline for Petty if Petty is on the 1st Friday as rumored or opposed from Gentilly. I'll be at Trey Band start to finish.
Who said it was Aggressively Refreshing, you Rat or an article? I didn't see that in the Advocate's chat link. I also found out that "nolajazzfest" is an authentication name to get to the lineup, but whatever the hell is the password, well I got "denied" after multiple times.
Looking forward to this drop. I've yet to attend an actual Jazz Fest, just afterparties. I'd love to change that this year.
Still got word that STS9 is doing 2 nights though I'm still not sure on the dates or venues. I'd put the rumor in at about 70% based on the reliability of the chick I know who told me. She's often money, sometimes not.
"Lineup is Here" Banner is live, but it's still password protected. And as we all knew, with President Obama's relaxing of the Cuba travel restrictions, Cuba will be the featured country this year in that international area.
Wow, this lineup sucks pretty bad compared to the past several years.
Obv if you went any day of it you will have a blast but it would def be because of the stuff earlier in the day and not the top acts.
I'm gonna go WSP day and that's it. Pretty relieved honestly as I'll get to save a ton of money. Gonna bail on WSP to watch some Herb Alpert def, maybe some Tower of Power but I've seen them before. Two of em just hit by a train before a show. Must've been smoking something fierce.
Def seems like Macca bailed as the top lines are def missing a zing.
Kings of Leon. F O H Why do they keep getting to headline anything? Do they have a new album? Do they really have a following still? They have always sucked more than most other shitty bands forced upon the masses.
If the Meters don't do a proper headlining night show with OG lineup + Ivan, I will go 2nd Sunday since it's their 50th anniversary reunion.
