While it's probably the best lineup in America this year (despite the stuff I don't care about or want to see), it's a tad bit underwhelming for me. However, with moe. STS9, JRAD, Turkuaz, Break Science, New Mastersounds, etc. coming in for the night shows, there will be plenty of jam packed days. Unfortunately after reviewing (and posting my by-days below), I realize that I could pretty much go every day. I don't need to be spending that kind of $$$$ though.
Overall, I'll give it a 7/10
Day by:
Friday: Trey Anastasio Band will be conflicting with Nas & The Soul Rebels which blows like a mf. I'll go that day, and I'm going to have to split that set. I'll also see Kermit Ruffins & The BBQ Swingers, Hot 8 Brass Band, Joe Krown Trio, Mokoomba of Zimbabwe (?), Astral Project
Saturday: Usher & The Roots, Johnny Lang, Rebirth, Jon Cleary, Cyril Nevile & SwampFunk, New Breed Brass Band, Stanton Moore, New Birth Brass Band, Corey Henry & Treme Funktet, Treme Brass Band, Nigel Hall, Storyville Stompers Brass Band
Sunday: Tom Petty, George Benson, Dr. John (all split), The Mavericks (?), New Orleans Hip Hop Experience featuring Sqad Up, Denisia, Roca B & T-Ray the Violinist with his band Dreams to Reality (!!!), James Rivers Movement
Thursday: Widespread Panic, Goerge Porter Jr. & Runin Pardners, Egg Yolk Jubilee (my friends, so I guess I'll be at that)
Friday: Boney James, Anders, Terrence Blanchard & The E Collective, Naughty Professor, Guitar Masters featuring Cranston Clements, Jimmy Robinson & John Rankin
Saturday: Snoop Dog, Dumpstaphunk, Lone Bellow, Big Freedia, Kenny Wayne Sheppard Band, Soul Rebels, Henry Butler (just diagnosed with cancer), JFJAZZ Collective plays the music of Miles Davis, Dr. Michael White,
Sunday: Shorty, The Meters, Buddy Guy, Pres Hall Jazz Band, Galactic, Stooges Brass Band, Erica Falls
The crowds won't be overwhelming this year at least.
yep. seems pretty clear they couldn't get that huge bruce/mccartney/fleetwood mac type name they tend to get. i'm sure stevie and petty will have crowds but not life threatening size crowds like in the past.
looks like trey will close gentilly, should be pretty easy to get a good spot.
Friday May 5 would probably be pretty fun for me. I'm gonna hold off and see how many artists announce tours that come through Atlanta but I'd like to try and go that day. How many from the top line of that day would I be able to see? Not very familiar with how jazz fest works so I don't know about the scheduling. Just trying to figure out if it's worth it.

dave & tim, ewf, and wilco will probably all conflict. dave on acura, ewf on congo, wilco on gentilly.
Saturdays are the easiest days for me to make it and neither have me impressed. I may still try to come for some late nights, but no single day or act draws me into the fest itself. Don't get me wrong, plenty of good to go around, but it is missing something huge.
Yeah, Snoop and Stevie got rained out, so they got the invite back. Maybe this means that Snoop will be doing another DJ Snoopadelic set? Haha. That was a fn party.
The problem with living in NO is that the local acts who would really push each day over the top for me are all playing like 10 shows in the city before then.
Also, can we assume the replaced Paul with Maroon 5? That hurts
Never thought of it that way.. damn
This will be the year i definitely spend more time at after shows than actual Jazz Fest. Usher and the Roots will be dope. A few others I'm amped to see too. Just crazy considering the headliners that were rumored
Yeah, I won't be going any days this year. Pretty poo lineup
A little melodramatic characterization, maybe? The top isn't that much too my liking, but it's a pretty extraordinary lineup beyond the BNA stuff (which plenty of that is good).
Just the same, the night shows are always the party at Jazz Fest. Here are some announcements from Orpheum:
Revivalists - Thursday 5/4 presale code JF2017
Galactic, The Infamous Stringdusters, San Fermin & Too Many Zoos - Saturday 5/6 Presale is JF2017
May 5 - Karl Denson's Tiny Universe presents Exile on Bourbon
I've seen every artist on the lineup that I would care to see already and I'm spending my money on Louis CK, Radiohead, and Angel Olsen instead. I know a lot of people very happy with the lineup.

We are going to Angel Olsen also. We should meet up for drinks, well I don't drink, but it is thejeremy's birthday for real that day. Un-40. He doesn't want to change numbers.

I don't blame you, but calling it shit was a bit over the top. It's not the most exciting lineup, but it's still at least Better than every other fest announced in the US so far. What you up to tonight? We are at Santa Fe and about to go home and watch that Grape Ape (cartoon)

I didn't know you were back in New Orleans. Hope to see you around, maybe catch an aftershow.
Some of the top acts that stand out to me by day...
Friday 28 - Harry Connick, Jr., TAB, Nas with Soul Rebels, Aaron Neville, Leon Bridges
Saturday 29 - Usher & The Roots, Alabama Shakes, Cyril Neville and SwampFunk
Sunday 30 - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Lorde, Dr. John,
Thursday 4 - WIDE SPREAD PANIC! Woooooh!, Tower of Power, Herb Alpert & Lani Hall
Friday 5 - Earth Wind & Fire, Wilco, Margo Price
Saturday 6 - Stevie Wonder, Snoop
Sunday 7 - Kings of Leon, Meters, Buddy Guy, Maze with Frankie Beverly, Dawes , Galactic
I like weekend two better overall, but that weekend one Sunday stands out. That would be the one day I'd have to take off work too.

just the second weekend looks like possibly the best fest in the US to me (especially if you count the late nights) and i dont even like Panic or KoL. I do love funk and soul. Can't wait to dive in to the horde of bands i dont know yet.

You threw me off with that you don't drink comment. That's like living in Hawaii and not eating pineapple. Or living in Italy and not eating pasta.
Yeah that reminds me that I need to find a date for that concert. Yeah, let's get in touch closer to the show.

Yeah, my bad on the calling it poo. I was just hoping for something else, I guess. Still a great lineup, especially for all non-locals wanting to come and also see the city.
I love Santa Fe. Their margaritas are maybe my favorite in the city. The chicken maximillian is my jam. My neighbor and I are gonna hit up a neighborhood bar later. Somewhere close by like Mick's or Twelve Mile or Finn's maybe. I'll let you know when we figure it out!

Yeah. I dig Lola's. I like their paella. That's what we went to SF tonight for, but they don't make it on Friday or Saturday. A friend of mine who works at Santa Fe tried to tell me they had better paella and I called bs. But they didn't have it so idk. I always liked Cafe Grenada's best when they were open.

My friends are coming in from CT that week and one who works for a record company got comped tickets. I might be there as well

I loved that show. Not as much as Hong Kong Phooey, but still loved it. I really liked it when all of those Hanna-Barbera/Heatter-Quigley characters got together for Wacky Races.

Haha. Yeah, Wacky Racers was my favorite cartoon when I was little. Mumbly and Dick Dastardly are heroes. Laffalympycs (sp?) was great too. I always cheered for the Really Rottens.
