It's a hodgepodge of stuff. They do lots of old stuff. Not much of the older lineups left. Lots of young musicians. When I saw them there were at least 8 ppl on stage. They infused funk, soul, hip hop etc. I'd never seen them live before. It doesn't sound like straight up old school funk if that's what you mean. I'd agree with the Meatball when he says they are really tight. Excellent musicians. Basically a party. They give most everybody a chance to shine. I feel like I did a poor job answering but it being my only experience seeing them, I don't know what to compare it to.
No worries, sounds like a great show regardless!
I saw them at that Brainfeeder show and was pretty unimpressed.
I saw George Clinton summer of 2015 and he was barely on stage. He came on for like 5 of the 12 songs and his mic was turned way down. Maybe he was sick, but it wasn't good.
The current P-Funk incarnation is the shit. Just saw them in Chicago a few weeks ago. While George is definitely in a largely bandleader role at this late stage of his career, he's participating as much as possible; he sings for a while, gets tired, sits down and keyboardist hands him a water bottle and he's back up in five minutes. This is George Clinton we're talking about... if it were five dudes standing there doing a greatest hits show then it would not be P-Funk and it would not be George. This is fresh, 21st century P-Funk and it's a shame if you miss that because you're expecting half maggot brain and half mothership connection.
Dirty Projectors is the first. Danny Brown second. seems like this will go much faster than the last one, thank god. and likely that the spreadsheet is legit.
edit: and they're tweeting out the artists once they've been revealed.
