Might want to have some different sections up there. There's a difference between Warpaint saying out loud at a gig "we're playing Bonnaroo," between Phi saying he heard from his sources that U2, the Weeknd and RHCP are headlining, and the Avalanches following Bonnaroo on Instagram which basically means nothing.
I wouldn't say that means nothing. I'm not saying it's in any way an actual confirmation, but isn't that one of the reasons why they're currently rumored for Coachella? Besides, the Avalanches are a bit too obscure in the states for something like that to be written off as meaningless. They have no history with Bonnaroo, and they've been inactive for most of Bonnaroo's existence. It would be different if an act like The Avett Brothers or Portugal. the Man started following Bonnaroo's instagram account.

I mean, them following Coachella on Instagram means nothing either, as far as I'm concerned. It's not like they followed Primavera or anything else they played last year. I assumed they'd play Coachella just because they said they'd be touring the U.S. at some point, and they seem like a natural fit for that festival. I'd also caution that they've run into their share of troubles in the latter part of 2016 with touring, with dates being cancelled and some U.S. shows being dropped. So I don't know how much them following a couple fests back in August actually impacts what they'll be doing this year. FWIW, I'm not actually counting on them for Coachella, either.
Definitely agree with you on exercising caution on them playing any U.S. festivals next year. I know they teased a 2017 U.S. tour, but they clearly ran into problems with visas and illness this year.

They're also following Art Basel, and thus far there isn't an Avalanches show announced during Art Basel as of yet. That may have fallen through with the rest of their U.S. tour dates slated for the fall, though.

I've found that a boring headliner is a good time to go back to camp to change and hydrate for late night. Then on Sunday it's a good time to sit in the back of the what field with your friends and cuddle puddle
