Waiting to see ticket prices before I say anything stupid, but adding the additional ticket level just screams Corporate Money Grab to me.. pretty disappointed if they jack up prices big time
Fuck. But I love that open bar for Platinum. I'd pay 650 for that option but it's going to be like 1,000. Even I can't drink that much. Shit.
I was thinking about some upper mid card and mid card wants. Pretty Lights will be 4 or 5 if his message wasn't about a random pop up set somewhere which it well could have been.
Hundred Waters (I need to look up Form Fest to see if anything is uploaded). Datsik Vince Staples (has been in the city twice this year) Slim Thug Sleigh Bells (even though they just played Buku) Fishbone Ministry Primus
I'd go for Ministry and Primus
I'd easily pay up to $750 if its a completely open bar. Would actually save money on the weekend if this was the case
VIP Loa and Foundation Room Lounge Access to Front Row Viewing All Stages Complimentary Open Bar Complimentary Catered meals and snacks throughout the day Complimentary On-Site Parking in the Lelong Lot (useless for me) Shuttle Transportation Between Stages Shaded and Relaxed Lounge Seating AC Flushable Restrooms Unlimited Carnival Rides Dedicated Express Lane at Main Entrance Exclusive Merchandise Gift All Areas for GA and VIP
I'm not sure what it's worth ultimately. I guess $800 would be legit if you could pound more than 15 drinks a day (15 x $8.00 = $120) and/or if there was a show you really really wanted front row to. Having done that twice for Wakarusa who had the best VIP there was, it's pretty cool to be leaning on a stage and getting down with a band right there. The only knock we ever had was that sometimes you're so close that you miss the best light shows unless you watch them on the screen. That happened with STS9, String Cheese, EOTO and Umphrey's where you're seeing some hues of color in front of you but meanwhile on the screen you're seeing the crazy *** light interplay. Small complaint to be sure. I'll call Frontgate Tickets today and see if there is any indication on when they'll have pricing.

Didnt even notice the Complimentary Catered meals and snacks throughout the day.. That and the free drinks may swing me this way, unless its just outrageously priced, which I have a feeling it will be..
Agreed. I'm probably not paying $1,000 unless the lineup is something nobody's even doing anymore. They don't open until 9, but I'm going to call them and see if I can get any updates on ticket costs or when they're coming on-line.
Front Gate said they didn't know when the tickets were going to be available nor how much. They said if you are getting updates, then you're already in line to get the information when it comes out. For upgrades, they said buy the new one and call them with the order number for a refund of ticket you are upgrading.
This is pissing me off. I can't believe that they did a very limited time on the presale, and now are changing up all the tiers and most probably the prices.

It's still underpriced though. All those years of $99 or so tickets for 3 days of crazy, I was never sure how they made the numbers work. I realize they don't sell it out so you can have a giant range of attendees from day to day. Maybe they make their money on the booze? Also I'm willing to pay for the production and logistical upgrades that we saw last year - better food, better bathrooms, p*ss walls, lack of soundbleed, etc. Also, if you compare it to a single day Jazz Fest ticket which runs like 11 or 11:30-7 instead of 12-11 (til 9 on Sunday), they could justify charging $240 or more, and it would still be legit. I paid half that with the fees and taxes already with the pre-sale ($121).
In the end, I want cheap prices, but I'm willing to pay for a better quality experience. The $100 deal has been dirt cheap. But since most 3 day city festivals cost around $250 or so and up, I think something around $175-199 is fair considering Voodoo has fewer acts (65ish) because of the way they stagger the stages now. Lolla which is bigger and has more acts is sold out at $335 plus fees (so say $360 or so). ACL is $255 and has way more acts. So upper $100's would seem to be about right, no?
Now ACL VIP (which isn't very good) is $1,100, and their Platinum is $3,600. No way I'd pay for either of those at ACL. So hopefully the prices will be much less even though it's the same booking company and ownership.

I guess I am spoiled, but $150 for Voodoo seems like a fair price. I don't think that for 65ish acts it should be higher than that.

I would agree that $150 plus taxes and fees (say $175-180 or so) would be a reasonable price to open the first tier. They'll sell those out and then up the prices along the way unless they are going to go straight to a tiered system as they sell rather than over time. I think Voodoo usually is around $250 or so by the time the festival gets underway.

Agreed that $225 would be WAY too much unless they're going to competing headliners... which they won't.
The festival grounds are too small. If they moved back to the old location, added dueling headliners again, and more acts it could be worth it. But the currently location is way to small for all that.

Agree 1000% with that assessment - there's already sound bleed as it is. But really, we don't need another $225 festival with dual competing headliners every night... we need our cute little $150 festival with way less acts but a much cooler host city.
I've never been disappointed I bought Voodoo tickets. Let's keep it that way!

I'm excited about ACL and all but I still know in the back of my mind there will be a few things on the Voodoo lineup I will kick myself for missing. Really wish I could do both.
It's quiet. I haven't heard anything. Even deeper back in the web (not all the way to Tor), all I can find is people want x and y - many of which were on the card last year or the year before. I mentioned earlier that I swore I heard Pretty Lights say at his May second-line parade and pop-up show under the I-10 that he'd see us again at Voodoo. He'd be fine to close the EDM stage one of the nights, and hopefully this time I'll not have a conflict like Foo Fighters that prevented me from seeing him last time.
Looks like I'll just keep my GA tickets since $1,050 x 10% tax plus fees will put that at $1,200 or so. It's going to take a lineup that has more than 2 acts I'd want to be in the Super VIP areas to watch. If M83 sub HL's and NiN is headliner and maybe say Chance or Kendrick, I'll consider. Otherwise, GA is fine and always has been. No way I can afford to drink $300+ a day even on my most iron livered days.
To go back to your question, and it's not rumors, just what I'm guessing - Nine Inch Nails, Kendrick, Green Day, alt-J, Afghan Whigs. Bassnectar and RL are both due back and have been mentioned as possible Hulaween DJ's. Beyond that, if they share a HL with ACL, I'd guess the Red Hot Chili Peppers since they haven't played Voodoo since 2006, but they did play Jazz Fest in 2016 and a show at Smoothie King Center in January. So it's iffy. Run the Jewels could play and either HL or sub HL rap night if they do that again. Ice Cube would be nice as well.

Kendrick - Green Day - Nine Inch Nails would be a killer group of headliners that would sell lots of tickets and please the voodoo faithful. I'd love for Bassnectar to come back but with my luck he'd be booked during NIN. Love Kendrick but I'd probably skip him for a Bassnectar set, and Green Day would be an easy skip for a decent electronic act. Regarding Pretty Lights I'd be down for a set, but it'd be nice to get word through the grapevine that he is healthy. All the opiate rumors kind of put a damper on my enthusiasm for seeing him live.
I agree on ticket prices, no way is LOA worth it, especially without front row access. GA is fine for voodoo and always has been. I'm glad they are still keeping the low GA ticket prices.

They fucked over LOA with that platinum package. I would NEVER spend that kind of money on Voodoo.
It's easy for you because you don't drink. I maxed out around 700/800 for value at Platinum. However, I'm not taking it off the table because if there is enough upper mid card crazy shit ala Puscifer and Claypool/Lennon last year (Primus, M83, Queens of the Stoneage, etc) to go with 1 or 2 headliners, I might. 2 catered meals plus 150 in drinks plus front at all 4 stages could be worth it to me.
Also is Voodoo going evil this year? Could there be some death metal high up? All those tarot cards on Social Media and then a lineup announcement at 6 on 6/6?

Scary devil stuff?
Hmmm The number of the beast which is also the devil. Iron Maiden and Van Halen confirmed? Haha.
