I get the feeling this lineup is gonna be well worth that early bird ticket but right now virtually no1 wants to go now because of these ridiculous flight prices from Chicago. Fuckin Bears.
Was on the ropes wanting to do Hulaween after Wanee, but it was just to go back to SOSMP. I just have to accept that I only get one trip there a year now after years of Bear Creek. Sucks. Hulaween just isn't for me. The whole blind ticket sales thing didn't help either. I feel like I'd just get frustrated by spun out kids all weekend. I ain't even that into Cheese to be honest.
Got a West Bank hotel room which is easy enough to get to from the Warehouse District vs. Nola East. Waited too long to book Motel 6, ah well.
Would obv love Maiden and NIN. This fest is always fun but is not gonna blow my mind in this era. I'll leave Day for night for that.
Some great heavier music coming to Nola in the Fall as well... Between the Buried & Me playing Colors @ HOB Venom Inc @ HOB Parish (def recommend this, caught the last show at Siberia) KMFDM @ HOB (hitting this up with my mother in law, haha) OhGr from Skinny Puppy is opening.
Thrill Kill Kult is finally coming back but it's on a Tuesday so def not happening.
Lastly, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard is playing OEJ on a Thurs in late Sept....got my ticket immediately for that, been waiting a few years to see them. Previous shows have been Gasa Gasa on a Monday or whatever. nah. Monday after Jazzfest, even worse.

Fuck the Bears, but shouldn't there be lots of chartered flights in for the game that weekend? Either way, I hope you are right except that they go random. I'd expect it if Rehage was still running Voodoo, but I really don't have any idea what C3's vision of Voodoo is. They have sort of codified and improved branding. But do they have the appetite to maintain its non-generic and more rock status in the live nation suite? Or do they turn it into lots of SXM alt stations or another way to package the same acts they are doing elsewhere? I don't know.
FWIW last year was booked by C3. They are definitely putting their own spin on it (aka The Weeknd last year, and G Eazy), but trying to stay true to the roots.

I don't think I've run into you or Longinus since Day for Night, so I'm glad we'll be crossing paths later in the year a couple of times. Also, did I notice "mother-in-law"? Congratulations.
Haha. It's not that holy! I wasn't ever really much of a fan. A couple of buddies in college were big Maiden heads. From that 70's era metal, Judas Priest was the main early metal band I really got into (admittedly I was more a fan of hard rock and bluesier stuff like Sabbath, Deep Purple or Bloodrock than early metal). Just the same, I've never seen Iron Maiden. So I have to figure that unless there is some crazy EDM show I'd want to see over that, at worst I'd split the show. But I'd be down with them headlining Voodoo. They seem more like a band that would play whenever Halloween fell on a Voodoo date rather than a non-Halloween year. But with C3, you just don't know what they're thinking. Are they being cutesy with 6/6 release at 6? Or are they dropping a clue? I'm not the most perceptive mfer out there. In fact, I'm usually pretty weak at taking things past face value. But that stood out to me. Like why the fuck are you releasing at 6:00am? Because it also happens to be June 6th?
Also Jabco said Prophets of Rage will be releasing an album in early September. I'd take them anywhere on the lineup from 1-6. That would be an instant Top 1 show for me. Prophets, Kendrick, Nine Inch Nails/Green Day?

What are the terrible things that could happen headliner wise?
21 Pilots? Mumford? Kings of Leon?
Positive electronic talk: They cannot book a shittier electronic act than The Chainsmokers, but I'm sure we'll have some stupid shit. I'm not naive enough to expect any really rad techno or house, but Claude VonStroke/Barclay Crenshaw is a reasonable guess. As we have discussed another hard dubstep artist a la Excision would be fun, so Datsik I suppose. Getting further out on the not likely branch but Above & Beyond or even AvB would be fun.

Kings could be a "soft" headliner, but they seriously aren't that big here. And they also just played Jazz Fest last month. I don't think that happens.
Mumford? Possible because of C3. I think they are way more Jazz Fest styled than Voodoo. Though with C3, you never know. I wouldn't hate them up there, but it's kind of just a sit back and watch show and without going quite that far, sort of a waste of an opportunity for someone else.
21 Pilots - They played Voodoo in 2014. They weren't real high on the card then as compared to where they're at now. However, they just played in March.
So hopefully that assuages any concerns you have on at least 21 and Kings. No guarantees obviously, but doubtful on at least 2 of 3 and ? on Mumford.
I don't all that much care about who Voodoo books for their EDM headliners, including Marshmello. Chances are at least better than average that there will be something better on the main stage. Datsik is fine with me. I always have a ball at his shows. And as far as I know, he's not played Voodoo before. Skrillex would be fine as well. He played last with Jack U in 2015 and last headlined Voodoo EDM in 2013. Martin Garrix would be Bottom 1 for me, but again, I don't really give a **** because I'm not going to that anyway. I'd be fine with Bassnectar, Skrillex, Datsik or even a return of Griz to Voodoo which he hasn't played since 2014. Gramatik or Excision won't be back this year because they both played last year. Hopefully unless it's someone on the level of Prydz or Deadmau5, we don't get any house headliners.
What, Marshmello? He probably should be at Voodoo to give the high schoolers something they know or heard about was cool. I'm not going to be at it anyway. If he was opposed by a suck headliner on the main stage, I'd just blow out for the night and walk home. Hopefully that's not the way it goes down, because what he'd be against: 2013 - Pearl Jam, The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, 2014 - Foo Fighters, Outkast, Arctic Monkeys, 2015 - Ozzy + Everyone, Florence, Deadmau5 unopposed (main stage); 2016 - The Weeknd (vs. Carnage which was an all time low on who to see), Tool, Arcade Fire.
Only suck rock/rap headliner vs. EDM conflict was last year.

I think we need to calm down about Iron Maiden, I know 666 and all that, but in this era of homogenized festival headliners I wouldn't expect something that unique.
But dude Iron Maiden would be so fucking awesome, and Voodoo would be the envy of all peoples o'er the entire Inforooland.
How about LCD? I know they bankrupt every festival they play but I'd love to see them again.

I took his Maiden post to be sort of a joke. I just noted that it was odd what they were doing on the date and time release, and didn't myself tie it to Iron Maiden. Personally, I'd probably do Super VIP if it's Black Sabbath farewell tour since that also is not playing here.
As for LCD, that's such a hard call for New Orleans. Assuming they were playing here, where would they even play, Sugar Mill or Mardi Gras World? I would think they're too big for The Joy, Orpheum or Civic. But there's no way they'd be able to fill up Champions Square, much less UNO or Smoothie King Center. I know they've headlined much bigger festivals than Voodoo, but they almost seem like a second liner for what Voodoo does sort of like what Cage was last year. I think LCD would more appeal to traveling fans than it would to the locals. Voodoo is sort of a mix for a city festival as you know. Also, I wonder if C3 is going to keep Voodoo from ever being a sellout or if there is some magic number (60,000? 70,000?) where they'd want to sell it out.

Phi,
I re-read your post about C3 putting their stamp on it but otherwise mostly leaving it alone. This suggests (unless you're just going off of last year) that you guys @ Owl must have seen or know something. If so, let me know if the lineup or what you know of it would likely be appealing to me.

Why the hate for Mumford? They write really well thought out songs and are very talented musicians, unlike people who rely on silly head gear and press buttons but call themselves "musicians"...
I know flames are coming my way. Your disdain for 21P and Mumford is how I feel about 99% of every EDM artist I've ever heard, so to each their own...

Fuck. I thought they were talking last fall about doing a last tour this summer and fall after Ozzy and Bill semi made up. Birmingham is where they should go out. I don't think we get Ozzy in any capacity for a couple more years since he played 2010 (right after firing Zakk) and then of course 2015.

No flames. They could close Sunday like Arcade Fire did last year. But it doesn't really fit that much with Voodoo.
