Officially got my 3 day pass. Looking for suggestions to fill in my schedule. Right now it looks like this:
Friday- DJ Mel, Flow Tribe, Chicano Batman, 4:30-6 gap, Benjamin Booker, LCD, Kendrick
Saturday (help!)- Black Angels, Record Company, Food
Sunday- Strand of Oaks (den), Strand of Oaks, Cold War Kids, Head and the Heart, Killers
I'm assuming by your partial schedule, you like rock and alternative? Saturday has the most shit for me all day long. For Friday, I'm probably going to eat in that 4:30-6 slot but will probably watch Kehlani who is a big talent though not something I would much ever listen to studio. Also, not sure why you don't have Prophets of Rage on that Friday schedule. That's going to be the show of the weekend (actually their Tip's show on Thursday probably will be because it's likely to be a longer set with some Public Enemy and Cypress Hill thrown in).
Saturday:
You have Black Angels on your list, they play twice.
Black Pistol Fire out of Austin is also playing twice. They are a rocking 2 piece band in the vein of DFA 1979, Lightning Bolt or Royal Blood.
Colony House out of Franklin, Tennessee cites Cold War Kids (who you are already going to see) and U2 as influences.
Live is an alternative band from the 80's/90's. You may remember them from alternative radio (106.1 Zephyr and 106.7 The End) from back in the day. The singer can be a bit annoying, but the band is great. We just saw them a couple weeks ago in Austin, and it sounded good.
Vintage Trouble - Blues Rock Band out of California. I've seen them before, and they were entertaining.
Brand New - Indie Rock band that's pretty big these days
Foo Fighters - I'm assuming you know them.

Fuck those assholes. Their human indiscretions just fucked up my schedule for Saturday royally. What Voodoo has now done is moved The Black Angels into the spot that was formerly held by Crystal Castles and now The Black Angels are conflicting with Vintage Trouble and RL Grime. Plan was The Black Angels > Brand New > RL Grime > Foo Fighters. Not sure what I'm going to do now since I'm going to have 2 of my main shows for that day compressed into 1. I'll probably have to split them. I'm not hating on Voodoo for dumping Crystal Castles in light of the recent press, but I wish they would have gone in a different direction with the scheduling changes.

While I appreciate they want to sell tickets locally, and a bunch of artists that locals get to regularly see aren't a huge draw for that, I still think any festival in New Orleans should shine a light on local talent. I always spent some time at the local stage in Voodoos past.

They ended up adding New Breed Brass Band which I haven’t seen in a long time. So I put that on my schedule for 12:45 Saturday. I was probably going to see Flint Eastwood, but I’ll split that set now.

Prophets, Livin on the 110, Hail to the Chief, Sleep Now in the Fire, Bomb Track, Fight the Power, Testify, Guerilla Radio, Bulls on Parade, Killing in the Name of, Take the Power Back, Unfuck the World, Rock Superstar, Know Your Enemy, Like a Stone, Bullet in the Head, How I Could Just Kill a Man, etc. Shit was incredible and probably will vie with Foo Fighters for top show of the weekend. Tipitina’s was fucking rocking.

Voodoo fb says Chuck D will be signing his new book from 4-5pm at the Merch tent, might have to check that out, at least to shake his hand and say hey.
So I just checked Weather Underground site and the forecast shifted forward some, saying it's gonna rain during mid day more (yay muddy City Park) and should be clear at 5pm. It'll rain after the fest though. I'd much rather drive to nola and back in the rain than to be rained upon and potentially have shows cancelled at the fest.
The goal is to be inside by 5pm to check out Kehlani. Just downloaded King Krule's albums last night to listen to on the ride over. Check him out if y'all haven't heard him, his voice is cray.

Voodoo always kicks ass, and that LCD-Prophets-Kendrick run tonight is as good as anything this year. Plus the back to back LCD sets you miss after claiming to be a fan or something. Haha. Props to Flint Eastwood for being named after my dog. (coincidence). Yeah and it sucks I can't see LCD with 3 chances over (ATX, DALLAS, ACL LIVE TAPING) but that's life. I was tempted to sell my D4N and cancel my airbnb but I think Im doing ok to still make that trip. 2018 is looking nice though financially and with some directions. Although Hulaween has look fucking bomb I may avoid everything and just do that and D4N.
