In September Green Day is playing The Wharf in Orange Beach, AL, then hops over New Orleans to Texas. Not sure if this means they are less likely or more likely to be booked for Voodoo.

I was hoping they weren't going to be on the lineup. I'm not much of a fan of the 3rd wave of punk (Green Day, Offspring, etc.) as I was of the second (U.S. Hardcore). I don't hate them, but I wouldn't be excited for them to be there. At the same time, I'd definitely catch some of the show from the back.

As we run out of headliners to see, I can think of worst headliners than Green Day, but they don't get me excited. Seems we are of the same mind. For me, the only third wave punk band I'm really passionate about is NOFX.
Agreed. And I'd be fine with Metallica, Green Day and NiN. But I don't think C3 is booking like that anymore which is only personal speculation based off the way that they handled this past Voodoo. That was pretty much heavy rap day Friday, rock day Saturday and independent and newer stuff on Sunday (main stage anyway), and you have to figure all 3 of those performers are main stage performers. If 2016's booking was an anomaly and not a map of the future, then who knows?

For sure, the lineup is way too 90s without someone more contemporary. Not that Voodoo hasn't gone full 90s before, but it still feels unlikely.
Personally I'd prefer to catch NIN at a stand-alone show, I've only ever seen them at Voodoo fest, but I'd be thrilled to see them anywhere.
I would bet money Green Day is back. They are due. I am NOT a Green Day fan and that will send me home early for sure. NOFX I'd be about. I don't know if I buy the heavy rock all three days either. I think they are going to stick with the new rock, rap, indie trend. It gets people of all flavors there. Idk we will see.

Voodoo or Jazz fest?? Never been to New Orleans, leaning heavily towards Voodoo because of being over Halloween / not being spread out over the week. Either way it would be a Thursday-Sunday trip. Thanks!!

Voodoo vs. Jazzfest
-Tickets are less expensive for Voodoo -Hotels are equally expensive for both festivals, book early either way -Voodoo runs until 11pm fri/sat, 9pm sun -Jazzfest ends at 7pm on all days, so no shows in the dark -Jazzfest has significantly more after shows -Jazzfest is in the spring, when everything is being born -Voodoo is in the fall, when everything is dying -Jazzfest generally does not book electronic music. Voodoo has a dedicated electronic stage, although most of the electronic bookings are run of the mill EDM stuff. -Voodoo will book more hip-hop acts. -Voodoo usually books "harder" or darker rock acts than Jazzfest -Jazzfest is a much older festival (1970 I think?) and a more unique festival experience, due to the large amount of world and localish acts they book. At Jazzfest you have a jazz stage, gospel stage, blues stage, heritage stage, etc. At Voodoo you have the EDM stage than three other stages playing whatever. Maybe I'm just a naive tourist but it feels more like a city-wide celebration than Voodoo. -Jazzfest crowds typically skew a bit older.

Great point, it is worth noting that the biggest names at Jazzfest can literally be impossible to catch if you don't camp all day long. This happened to me for both Bruce Springsteen and Fleetwood Mac. We actually did camp all day for Bruce, but ended up so crowded and uncomfortable we left before the set ended. We didn't camp for Fleetwood Mac and just could not find any place where we had a proper sight line, even on the track.

Voodoo. Hands down.
Jazz fest is late April/Early May and hot as balls. If it isn't raining on you, it just rained and it's humid as balls.
Though Jazzfest will have a more stacked lineup over all, Voodoo will have a more stacked lineup over a three day period. Jazzfest is stretched across two weekends, both with different artists.
Voodoo typically has perfect weather, I know rain messed things up 2 years ago. Normally it's warmish in the day and you can use a light jacket in the evening. It's right on the rail car system so you can ride the car in, and ride the bus back.
