Top 15 acts of 2014: Average number of albums : 8.2 Median number of albums : 7 Average debut year : 1996 Median debut year : 2000
Top 15 acts of 2017 Average number of albums : 4.3 Median number of albums : 3 Average debut year : 2007 Median debut year : 2011
And I tried to be conservative with acts like Lionel and Jack White with previous projects. Likely skewed 2014 to be more recent and with less albums.
This is a very good post. All the people claiming this lineup is just like older lineups and we're just older and haterz are missing the point. Regardless of whether this lineup is subjectively better/worse/average, it's clearly, objectively, different
I actually would see every name on the top two lines. But after that it's ugly.
Future Islands is fine. Umphrees McGee looks like it got drunk and wound up on the wrong lineup. Tegan & Sara is fine. I like that one Milky Chance song. Royal Blood is good but I've already seen them at Bonnaroo in a better year. Car Seat Headrest and Michael Kiwanuka! Positives! That line 10. Wow. It's like a reminder that the line-up sucks in case you started to forget after line 9. Flatbush Zombies, Claude VonStroke, Francis & the Lights and BBNG are solid, but surrounded by names I've never heard of or don't like. Crazy how low the Bluegrass Superjam is. Kinda shows the shift in priorities. And NoName fittingly rounds out the list of names I know and/or care about.
Honestly, there are acts that I want to see here. But I don't care about U2, and the line-ups general aesthetic is for people 8 years younger than me (27). Will there be a single person excited for Marshmello, Tory Lanez AND U2?
It's the worst line-up Bonnaroo has ever had, because it betrays everything that Bonnaroo used to be and that's never happened before. It was going to be a challenge to attend this year anyway, so at least I'll save money. But it hurts a little still.
I was listening to a playlist on the way to work and realized that a huge chunk of the music I love was introduced to me by Bonnaroo, and that Bonnaroo straight up does not exist anymore.
Kind of like Ween last year...and I'm sure that they will get scheduled for an afternoon set on Which, just like Ween. They have adopted the mindset "throw the jam base a bone and they will all come".

When I have more time, I want to try and get the whole lineup. Elton and Nick Cave skewed things a lot, which is why I included the median. It would be nice if I could drink enough coffee to do a few years in a row. Maybe this weekend.
After sleeping on it, this lineup really isn't that bad. It just doesn't feel like a bonnaroo lineup at all. I'm still confused about all the no-brainer acts they missed on (e.g., Trey band, Jim James). Plus, The Avalanches not being on it bothers me. Nonetheless, this year is definitely gonna sell Plenty of tickets.

Well...it's not as bad as you guys were making it seem. I might actually still go. No Avalanches still hurts. Also what's the point of having U2 headline when there's not a single other artist that appeals to that demographic?
I take this statement back. I was pretty sleepy when I first looked at the lineup. I think I was just happy to see The xx on there.

LMAO. Deadmau5 called that d-bag out a few months ago. I think he challenged him to a basketball game or something. And Deadmau5 hit him back for trying to capitalize on his name. "Okay we get it. dotcom wasn't working, you put a bucket on your head and mention me weekly. winning formula. awesome
As much as I don't like listening to deadmau5, he's usually pretty good at trolling dolts and idiots.

That's my problem with the past two years. It's not that everything on it sucks, it's just not a Bonnaroo lineup. Not as much diversity in the genres, too many commercial artists as opposed to acclaimed live acts, nothing surprising or unique. Just vanilla. Something you'd expect from Firefly but not Bonnaroo. If they even just sprinkled in the Slayers and Atomic Bombs of the world throughout the past two lineups that could have made a big difference.
There are plenty of artists I'd check out if I went this year, but nothing that gets me excited enough to make the time/money commitment required to go.

I am still mourning. And my group are all out and going to Shaky Knees. I am going to miss camping with my friends and seeing all my inforoo peeps, but I guess that is why I need to make Shaky Knees happen now.
I'll be there. It's a lazy lineup and there no acts out of left field to make it super unique other than U2 but there's enough on there to entertain me for the weekend. Also, even though they've hit up just about every festival in the last few years, I love Royal Blood, Future Islands, and Umphrey's Mcgee so it just happened to line up with my personal preferences.
If you have been going to Bonnaroo for more than a few a years (not me) than I completely get why you would hate this. It went from an eclectic and diverse lineup to the mainstream lovechild of Lolla and Firefly. Definitely understand where a lot of peoples disappointment comes from.

If you need a camping group at roo, hit me up on DM
There seems to be regional split between Shaky Knees and Panorama now, which I really can't say is a bad way to go on either end.. especially cost wise. But I will miss camping.

Shakey Knees looks like it would be fun enough, but it almost looks like one of those fests that if it went 11-11, you'd want to go about 5:30 or 6:00 to catch the mid-card and up.

A bunch of us go to Shaky Knees. Not sure how many are going this year but enough that we'll have a fun group.

no no no, Shaky is always good down to the bottom. The only really weak spot this year is lines 3-5 (given I've zero interest to see almost all of the bands in that section and that's usually my bread and butter at fests
