It can't be understated how bad of a guitarist Josh is.
Can't believe a band as huge as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and with the talented musicians they have and had in the past, would find their new lead guitarist from a local dive bar
I will never wrap my head around people who say that they would go to Bonnaroo no matter the lineup, they go for the vibes and "magic". That shit ain't worth $400.

Local dive? I thought he did a lot of work with Frusciante. He was also the touring guitarist for Gnarls Barkley they year I saw them in Houston. 07? . Him, Frusciante, Flea, and Chad had a gratuitous jam session after the show.

Yeah he played with RHCP on part of their '07 tour too. He's still got absolutely nothing on Frusciante.

Could've fooled me
i was just guessing based on his talent level
He's not bad, he's just not noteworthy, and that band needs a noteworthy guitar player

I mean, he's better than I'll ever be. But I also don't play guitar, ever.

He was flat-out bad at Lollapalooza last year
I don't remember him being so bad the last time I saw them, I assume it was because it was shortly after he joined and he was mostly sticking to Frusciante's stuff rather than trying to add his own flavor
Or Jay-Z. Or Trombone Shorty. Or Steve Martin. Or Jimmy Cliff. Or Jeff Beck. Or John Prine... John Fogerty... Regina Spektor, Daryl Hall & Chromeo, GWAR, Tori Amos...
Or Clutch, The Black Keys, Blues Traveler or The Flaming Lips (off the top of my head)
I will admit this: I originally was convinced to go to bonnaroo because of the many stories of experiences I was told of by friends. Only a small minority had to do with a particular performance and whatnot. And my first year that's what put roo number 1 on my festival list, how unique it was with the late nights, overall atmosphere, and layout. Impacted by the lineup but not necessary. Now I care so much about the lineup during release, which is totally valid, but every year I come back and tell stories about so much more than just that, and with the same friends and a better lineup, I wasn't able to do that at Coachella last years. It seemed dull in compairison. Maybe it's a self fulfilled prophecy or something but I have to give credit to that. Just wanted to air these thoughts and see if anyone related. It begs the question, what originally formulated these experiences, the bands who came, the fans of the band, the fans of the festival, the people I went with?
What late nights? Don't they end at like 2 now?
The last roo I attended was 2012 and the latenight was so boring / terrible, we decided to go to bed.
in years prior, it was a raging shitshow that lasted until dawn...and it was awesome.

rumor is the music ends at 3 now? Is this true?
The past 2 years the Which and tents have ended at 2AM with Kalliope playing mostly random DJs (though with a few nice surprise like Skrillex or Keys n Krates) until 5AM or so. So the big name late night tent acts no longer play til sunrise.

lineup's a turd by Roo standards, this is a tier 2 lineup with U2 in front of it.
What's weird to me is that whole genres are missing. No metal or hard rock, like at all. Just 2 years after Mumford headlined, and there's just a handful of cheesy roots/folk acts on the lineup. Weird
But yeah, the worst part about this lineup is the midcard. Not a strong lineup when acts like Marshmello & Big Gigantic end up in the top few 3-4 lines.

Yeah, I don't remember much about that one economics class I took in first year, but they had some sort of curve which determined how much you could screw people while still making a profit... I think our new Roo overlords have that shit down...
