I started to put together a mock on my google sheet template, but I didn't get very far. I just don't know what to do with all of the EDM, and there aren't the same bands that fit previous year's formulas to fill the schedule. I might update the spreadsheet once the daily schedule comes out, but for now here is as much as I could get done (not in google sheet form):
Fri What: ??? > Cage the Elephant > Chance the Rapper > U2 Fri Which: ??? > Torey Lanez > Glass Animals > The XX >>>>>> Flume > Marshmello (LN) Friday Tent Closers: Car Seat Headrest, Big Gigantic, Louis the Child Fri other LN: Umphree's McGee, Yellow Claw, Gallant
Sat What: Stick Figure > Tove Lo > Major Lazer > The Weeknd Sat Which: ??? > Cold War Kids > Portugal. The Man > Future Islands (No LN) Sat Tent Closers: Royal Blood, Kaleo, Getter Sat LN: Superjam, Russ, Crystal Castles, Nghtmre, <Artist Addition>
Sun What: ??? > Tegan & Sara > Lorde > RHCP Sun Which: ??? > Milky Chance > Travis Scott Sun Tent Closers: Bluegrass Superjam, The Head and the Heart, D.R.A.M.
I'm pretty sure there's going to be an edm tent like that metal tent the year they had graveyard. And the world music tent a couple of years ago
Question is, would the sets run together, or would they still do 45 minutes in between

Imagine the heat strokes if they made Which EDM themed, with the top of the lineup so EDM heavy. Luckily most of those top EDM acts will probably be late night, not commanding the bigger stage.

I'm curious to see if they invest in a Big Dumb EDM Stage or if they think they're going to impress the fucked up molly munchers they hope to attract with their current setup

I just posted this elsewhere, but I wouldn't be surprised if they nix Kalliope and have an EDM tent (either an existing or new one). Certainly the volume of acts on this lineup would seem to suggest that.

I picture then spraying the crowd with firehouses full of fountain water
What if the silent disco plays rock all weekend? 🤔
2014 and 2015 I'd go to the Silent Disco or Christmas Barn til the sun came. They played danceable house music. And stuff that sounded like Claude Von Stroke that made you want to dance in a way that wasnt just throwing your fists in the air.
Maybe they did play some good stuff late at night and I just walked in at the wrong times, but last year each time I went to either late at night, they were playing generic trap dubstep bass-drop shit and I couldn't stay for more than 10 minutes. That was disappointing.
Right! I remember on Thursday of 2013 the Christmas barn was playing pretty decent tech house. It really went downhill later.

It wasn't the Christmas barn that year was it? I thought that happened the year after. I thought it was just a club

two things I want to clear up:
tennessee heat sucks for EDM
so does chicago in august, the good news is bonnaroo can book great EDM from sunset till sunrise. not that they do that anymore, but yeah, roo has huge potential (which it can/has fulfilled) for dance music
bonnaroo only went downhill when they started booking bad lineups
kindof a chicken/egg thing here, but there's a lot more going on. biggest is festivals going big/mainstream in general. when bonnaroo started there really weren't big fests like it booking mainstream acts. now there are dozens... which means artists can ask for a much higher $$ which makes it harder for fests to book lineups as amazing as Roo did in the mid/late 2000s.
I don't know what bonnaroo wants to do long term, it very much feels like they're slapping a couple big names on an otherwise shit lineup at this point. They've tossed out several genres which means the musical diversity case is gone, but they also haven't committed to a genres either – eg coachella, which combines indie-vetted pop and hip hop with critically acclaimed alt/rock acts, for a cohesive and very good lineup. Idk

Yes it was. That was my first roo and I remember going to. Jake and Snake's Christmas barn, I loved it every time I went that year. When I went back in there in 2015, I didnt stay more than 10 minutes
The most depressing part of this lineup is how much it killed this board. No schedule confirmation thread, no mock schedule thread, no artist threads other than U2. No excitement. The only response other than utter disgust is "oh well, I'll still have fun".
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
Have any of you actually seen Tool in the last 3-4 years? You're kidding yourselves if you think Maynard's voice is even 1/10th what it was, find me a live video in the past 3-4 years where he has sounded good. He doesn't hit any of those notes anymore and the standing in the back of the stage schtick is old compared to the fact that he doesn't feel the need to do that with Puscifer or APC.
Oh yeah, Fuck Tool! They just put on a terrible show. Completely washed up. I'd much rather have the fucking Chili Peppers up there to hear Kiedis belt out that golden, angelic voice.
Bono is currently protesting Trump by not releasing his new album.. What kind of logic does this guy have?
The logic is they're going to write a new album because Trump is president and different things need to be said. I don't know about U2 but I think we're going to get a lot of great music inspired by this.

so they had been working on a Hillary album before?

No I'm guessing they were writing an album that wasn't political at all.

We already are! A Tribe Called Quest and Run the Jewels both have songs protesting Trump. It is going to be a great 4 years of music, while Trump slowly destroys all the rights and forward progress we have made in the last 80 years.

How is that logic? If the album already exists, it's not like they can magically make it about trump. Release it and start a new one. They'll have 4 years to release it

????? They're not magically making it about Trump. They are putting that album on hold and making another one. It's really not that hard to understand.

if they aren't releasing the album that implies its already finished. if its still a work in progress then i get that. but if its done or near completion, why not just release it. that's my point. because then its just posturing.

You'd be surprised how many artists record albums and don't release them for whatever reason. Ryan Adams seems to make a habit of it
Interesting stat: this is the 3rd year in a row Bonnaroo has shared at least one of Air + Style's headliners. 2015 Kendrick 2016 J. Cole 2017 Flume & Major Lazer. Any sort of connection?
