This will be my first time seeing him live and honestly his show looks amazing and hype as hell. I'm just curious why he gets so much hate?
I can't help but think things like "if Bonnaroo didn't book him, they could've used all of that money for Justice"
Seen a lot of people where it seems like theyre disregarding the lineup because it has a lot of EDM acts. EDM has a lot of different kind of music to offer and the shows are a hell of a time. Everyone has their own opinions but sometimes it feels as if because its EDM, its automatically garbage, which is pretty short-sighted.
Saw marshmello in Knoxville and put on a hell of a show. Vibes harder than an Electronic artist out there. One of the most underrated as well

He just sampled Living On A Prayer by Bon Jovi. It was actually pretty cool.

First time seein' Jay-Z? It'll be totes dope! I'm not really a fan, but after I caught him at Bonnaroo in 2010 I would definitely see his show if it came close. Hell, he was so good I was late to Thievery Corporation, and I'd been waitin' years to see them!

I think giving EDM The Other was genius. Everyone ends up happy that way.

Are we still quoting Reddit here, because I found this Gem the other day on a post From Hangouts reddit about why anyone would choose seeing Marshmello over Hangout.
"It's mainly the dopeness factor, it's like Mello turns up way higher"

lmao, no I wasn't. I'm not big on EDM but if I was, that stage would really excite me and it works for people who don't like it as well.

personally i'm very very curious to see what they come up with!

My main notes from the map:
- Silent Disco removed from What Field - This and The Other much further from each other with no Kalliope in between. Should be less soundbleed unless the map is misleading. - Nice to see Pod 1 still gone. Attendance must not have spiked up too much
I wonder why the EDM tent coincided with the quality of electronic acts being booked overall? It's like they tried to replicate the worst possible version of the Sahara tent.

yea but how packed is the sahara tent all weekend? they're going for ticket sales aimed at that demographic

Those shows do fine at Coachella, even when they happen on the outdoor stages. It just seems this particular lineup is lacking some of the big EDM names those crowds normally gravitate towards.
edit: there seems to be a drop off after major lazer, flume, marshmello, and yellowclaw. I normally have some kind of knowledge of this style of EDM, but I've never heard of a lot of this.

I know Louis the child and Borgore. Herobust and CVS are fine. Goldfish did that thing to me on twitter when they add and unfollow for followers so they officially suck. D.R.A.M. and Skepta get a pass.
So I guess my question is are Ookay, G Jones, Haywyre, Innanet James, NGHTMRE, Getter, Illenium, Ganga White Night, Barclay Crenshaw, DJ Mel, Unlike Pluto, San Holo, REzz, Matoma, Case Bloom, Jason Huber, and Vanic enough to get those lazer/mellow/claw/snails kids to spend their money? And more importantly, who are they? Normally this board seems to be a big indicator of a bands popularity considering so music is digested here, but no one seems to talk about any of this stuff. For one thing the majority of the big names booked this year play every damn regional EDM fest in the country. So I'm assuming these names are hot if this is their approach for attracting that demo.

If only there were more than a handful of acts worth seeing on that stage...

Pretty packed usually. Royksopp of all artists was packed, likely due to Garrix coming right after, but Coach is one of the festivals where people really bounce around stages.

i gotcha, i do agree they could have some bigger names like if the original garrix leak was true, i still wonder what happened there just out of curiosity. i'm excited for thursday night with ookay and herobust. i think it's also not talked about much around here because who wants to get shit on by some of the posters here lol. i've expressed in a couple areas i'm excited for a handful of these acts. bolded the acts i'm more familiar with and am into. i know a handful of the others but never got much into em. this was a long drawn out post for no reason

If only there were more than a handful of acts worth seeing on that stage...
DRAM, Big Gigantic and Skepta are all acts that have me shaking in excitement, but it also just seems like a cool place to go during blank spots in my schedule.

Paired with the other acts you listed, yeah probably. Also the EDM crowd aren't JUST EDM fans. They're also typically rap fans so count all those in as well as The Weeknd and RHCP (who still have massive reach with younger crowds). I think they've definitely put enough acts on the line-up to attract the more EDM-focused listener.

I thought the Kalliope did a good enough job at that. Most of the DJ's they booked aren't much better than the ones you would hear at the Kalliope except now we have one less stage and the music is ending at 3am. The upgrade doesn't seem worth it to me.

Well that's why I mentioned acts like Flume first because I know they are known to casual listeners too. I just don't know how much of this stuff appeals to the more dedicated base.

Barclay Crenshaw is the techno hip-hop alter-ego of Claude VonStroke. So he's the oddest act on the stage, but I guess he's just doing two for one festival bookings with both his on stage personas.
I've never listened to G Jones, but he's done a lot of stuff with Bassnectar, so I assume he's bass music.
I'm starting to think that, with american music festivals in general, we've switched booking strategies from "booking the hot acts" to "booking acts and convincing the consumer these are the hot acts".

Isn't Barclay more hip-hop/bass-y? CVS is more house/techno AFAIK.

I'm very into this response. It also describes Livenation's place quite well.

Acts like Flume do typically appeal to the regular/dedicated EDM listener.
I can't imagine the same people who are into the Weeknd getting down to Getter or NGHTMRE.
I was saying that EDM fans also like the Weeknd, not the opposite. His production (especially Starboy) has a lot of trap, rap, and electronic elements to it so the crossover is there.

I think we'll see once the "stunning visuals" are shown. Plus, that Oasis Barcadi thing seems pretty sweet.

i am listening to barclay crenshaw for the first time right now and you are correct.

Yeah we just said the same thing. Most 'regular/dedicated EDM listeners' probably don't give a shit about the majority of these acts neither. @radiatebased was right on point comparing this lineup to a Kaliope pool.

honestly i think the marshmello hate is a lil against the spirit of roo honestly. like if you dont like an artist thats totally cool but to shit talk him and his fans is just kinda shitty. hes clearly got fans so to make them feel bad for liking him is lame. is he my favorite dj ever? not even close, is he the most talented, OH GOD NO, but you know what, im gonna fucking throw down to "moving on" and party my dick off late into the night to him. if you dont wanna join, see you later friend. but lets keep the hate out.
