Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
1. Day For Night 2. FYF 3. Coachella 4. Growlers Six 5. Outside Lands (would have been #3 if Tribe and QOTSA hadn't ditched) 6. Austin City Limits 7. The Meadows 8. Boston Calling 9. Riot Fest 10. III Points 11. Governors Ball 12. Pitchfork 13. Panorama 14. Shaky Knees 15. Bonnaroo 16. Lollapalooza 17. Ultra 18. Sound on Sound 19. Forecastle 20. Desert Daze
I feel like if you're not that into what Desert Daze is all about then you shouldn't bother ranking it. If you are and still think this year's lineup is the worst of that bunch you're fucking insane.
I agree keeping it to North American fests would be easiest.
If anyone else has a burning desire to curate this, I'll gladly defer, but if not I wouldn't mind running the show (assuming we're able to find a consensus method on which fests to include/how to seed them)!
EDIT: As I've started up an Excel sheet to compare attendance, I've discovered it's pretty damn frustrating to find concrete attendance numbers for many of these festivals. Anyone have and tips/sources to assist here?
I actually started an Excel sheet yesterday too lol. I started going with attendance size as well but I found that several festivals were likely fibbing on their numbers like Firefly so I started going with Facebook likes. Getting those attendance numbers for the smaller fests would’ve probably been tough too. Some other ideas I had include highest Google trends in the past year, Songkick check ins and Facebook event check ins. Problem is usually no matter what metric I used, EDM fests like EDC and Ultra would rank super high. It may be best to use several metrics together and get an average of those rankings which I can help with, I do this kinda number crunching when making my fake Coachella posters to determine billing.
I did come up with a list of 64 and even still left out several CA fests we discuss on the Coachella board.

Oh wow, that's really awesome! I'd love to see what you already have so far if you wanted to send that to me... If you wanted to do your best to compile a list by size using your multiple metrics, I could try to seed based on region/size beyond that

I understand what Desert Daze is. I am into it more than stuff that didnt even make my list (Firefly, Hangout, Bottlerock, Rolling Loud, Okeechobee, Bisco, LockN, Cal Jam, Flog Gnaw, Eaux Claires, Hulaween, Afropunk, ect.). But if you held up a ticket to Desert Daze and any of the fests I listed above it, I wouldn't choose Desert Daze. You can disagree.

This is very preliminary and based solely on Facebook likes for US fests. Obviously there are some pretty glaring imperfections (overseedings, too many jam fests, missing Inforoo faves like Big Ears), and it might make more sense to narrow this down to 32. Let me know your thoughts on what conflicts I should shuffle, swaps I should make, festivals I forgot to include, all that stuff!

This looks good overall, kudos for putting this together. I always thought of Roo/Lolla/Coachella/ACL as the big four and sort of the U.S. Grand Slam, and thus would perfectly work as the #1 seeds. I guess Ultra gets so many damn kids it is what it is.

I went ahead and switched Ultra and ACL as suggested. Not sure whether the lack of response here is due to people thinking the above bracket looks good as is or just a general lack of interest...
Regardless, since all of these lineups have already been released I think it would make sense to have this over and done with before the end of the year when all the heat will be on the Album bracket. Should I go ahead and make a separate thread starting this up formally or is there any more input you guys would want to suggest? Do you think I made the right call leaving off SXSW and Summerfest?

I think a new topic with each (first round) matchup listed with a picture/link of the lineup poster for each festival is the best route.
