Would they be able to book both Fleetwood Mac and Jay-Z? I know that Livenation has the Jay-Z deal, but I still imagine he costs a ton. If it were possible, I could see a top 5 of something like:
Fleetwood Mac - Jay-Z - The Killers/Gorillaz (please be Gorillaz) - Frank Ocean?? - Bassnectar
Obviously don't know the likelihood of it, but Frank into Jay at the What would be crazy. I could see them booking both just based on their success with booking Chance & The Weeknd. Killers or Gorillaz fit a similar mold as RHCP in that younger people who would be attracted by Frank/Jay would probably still be interested in seeing them. Bassnectar would definitely satisfy the EDM crowd in a similar way to Flume/ML.
I suggested FM/Gorillaz/Frank on my survey. Realistically would be really happy about Fleetwood Mac + 1 of the other 2.

They were discussing bombing at stand-up shows and apparently Kumail's worst bomb ever was when he performed in the Comedy Tent at Bonnaroo. Apparently nothing was landing and the crowd boo'd him. Marc quickly states that he did Bonnaroo and he'll never go back. They then begin discussing the setting of comedy at Bonnaroo, about how most of the people in the comedy tent are just there to get some A/C and take a nap. They also discuss how once the comedians are on the farm you pretty much can't leave all day. Apparently there is a shuttle which only has two runs or something like that. All the comedians have one trailer with one bathroom they can hang out in and quarters can get tight. The comedy booker for Bonnaroo pushes comedians hard, saying "Don't you want to go to Bonnaroo?" to which Marc commented that if he wanted to go to Bonnaroo he'd just go, and that he actually doesn't want to go to Bonnaroo.

Ouch that was pretty harsh. But I did witness a few comics bomb but not because of the crowd just sitting there for the A/C. It was because they were really bad. It was shocking how little material some of them had.

Holy fuck, we went in the comedy tent around 5ish on Friday and there was this god awful stand up; and I mean terrible. It got so bad that by the end she started a wave in the crowd in order to kill time.
Maybe it was because I went to some of the bigger names (aziz, Lewis black, Donald glover) but there were a lot of people wanting to go to see the comedians.
If you just want AC and a nap there are easier places to get into, like cinema tent.

Well, yeah. The big names always get filled quickly. Hannibal was reserved on Sunday by like 12.
And the cinema and comedy tent are the same thing now.

On the inverse, Hannibal Buress mentions Bonnaroo and other festivals on his podcast often. He loves them. He got back from Moogfest a few weeks ago and has been raving about it on the last like 3 episodes. Looking forward to this weeks show, I am sure he'll talk about his experience at Roo this year.

nice to hear. i've spent a lot of time in the comedy tent, and have definitely seen comics kill in there. I think it helps greatly to be just popular enough to have people recognize you. Much harder for the unknown comic, or the comic only known to comedy nerds, to win over a Comedy Tent crowd. On the flip side, it's such a unique environment for comedy, with soundbleed all around, I think some comics are thrown by that and then think they are dying when actually they are doing OK. The crowd is used to soundbleed, it's just background noise to them since they are living in it.
I also find the evening crowds at those shows are the best, as by then it's already cooled down outside a bit and people aren't dying to get some A/C. The comics have also done at least one show by then and are more comfortable in the room.

my point was that waiting in a long ass line for a big name comedian seems dumb if you just want ac and a nap. i.e.: the people that got into the show wanted to be there for comedy.
I guess if they were the same tent this year that point is moot though.

My wife and I have used the comedy tent for the purpose of AC every year we have been. We also saw Ralphie May, Bob Saget, Comedy's bang Bang with Reggie Watts, Jeff Ross and more! It's really a win win!
The only disappointment I have ever seen in the Comedy Theatre was Cheech. Thankfully he was just an MC back in I think it was 2011? He had the guys from Workaholics, some really funny guy from SNL, and then Ralphie May closed it out and crushed.

I could definitely see RTJ getting the #4 slot next year. I think Fleetwood Mac seems like SUCH a no brainer that we are going to get ourselves really excited for it only to be disappointed come December/January.

Seems like RTJ is popping up in more high profile places too. They were just in the trailer for Marvels Black Panther. Getting that Disney money. Stuff like that boosts profile. We shall see.

Travis Scott was #9 at Bonnaroo this year. He is from Houston, so that may have boosted his profile at DFN. I would expect RTJ to be over Nick Murphy at Bonnaroo. Odesza and Kaskade would probably be below RTJ, as well. Hard to say. I also thought Chance would be lower than he ended up being at Bonnaroo, but he's clearly way bigger than RTJ.
I actually think Travis Scott is a good comparison. He's undoubtedly bigger than Run the Jewels and was #9. I also really can't imagine RTJ pre-headlining on the What Stage. It just wouldn't translate. Maybe closing the Which Stage similar to Travis if they continue to get bigger.
For what it's worth, they're sixth on the lost lake lineup (a Superfly fest) behind the killers, chance, major Lazer, odesza, and the roots. Ahead of pixies, Haim, and Luda.
Cage the Elephant was above Pixies at Shaky Knees this year, and Cage was #10 at Bonnaroo this year.
Love RTJ and they are getting a lot bigger pretty fast but they are not going to be headlining for another couple years. I do believe they will headline bigger festivals eventually. I have them pre-HLing on What for my 2018 mock and I think that'll be the case if we have a rap headliner next year. Maybe pre-HLing on Which.

RTJ are 11th at Lolla this year, subbing just before The Killers. I think that if they play at Roo next year, they're a lock for top 10. Top 4 is a stretch, but it could happen. Bey-Fleetwood-AM-RTJ would 100 percent get me to Bonnaroo, even though that top 4 ain't happening.
I'm hoping they bring out the inflatable fist and pistol they had at BC.
