Something that pisses me off about GnR is that they have one of the most fitting opening songs of all time in Welcome to the Jungle and they don't open on it
Would Livenation ever make the move of filling out Roo's Thursday with the stages and a headliner?
After working well for Lolla, I could see the possibility arising, but it could also be too big of a gamble with a fest that already isn't doing great.

I don't know why they would to be honest. Chance could've easily filled in that spot this year and ticket sales wouldn't have changed.
I always liked the idea of experiencing new acts on Thursday. It made for a nice warmup. I would be afraid they would try to overcompensate by using placeholder acts like the Killers or bumping acts who aren't ready like the 1975. It would just spread the lineup even more thin.

Because it would mean you could add 3 or 4 more big names to your lineup

This would be my fear as well and I also like the new artists on Thursday. Part of the reasoning in my mind was actually that that tradition seems like something LN would be alright paving over if it would mean selling more tickets.
People have been talking about the possibility of a Thursday headliner for as long as I've been on these boards, which is closing in on 10 years. I don't really see it starting now, especially with attendance figures so far down this year. LiveNation probably wants to make sure they can sell 3.5 days before they make it a full 4.
I do wish they would open up the Which. Those three tents are built to hold maybe half the amount that pack them out on Thursday. It's just not pleasant.
Those were the days. That billing was right for the time. Jay and Stevie was kinda confusing though. Mumford was mostly an unknown, mid-day tent act.
I think part of it was them hedging their bets on Jay Z since he was performing in Europe the night before, thus becoming the patron saint of the But Planes crowd.

Even at the time, people were scratching their heads over the billing. Jay-Z had just released The Blueprint 3 and was riding a career high. Maybe he'd be second, but fourth? No doubt some weird contractual thing about billing versus an objective ranking. DMB is a Bonnaroo legacy act so they probably got a bit of a bump for that, too.

2012? Edit: after checking I could have sworn Drake was on 2012 lineup. Will be back when I find out what I was thinking of Edit 2: turns out I was thinking of a mock that popped up a while back when I was going through lineups in boredome. Not sure why the mock appears so frequently but wow someone put way too much effort into it. Props to them for fooling me

Drake is honestly an ideal headliner for me. He isn't my favorite artist by any means but he has so many hits I'd probably know his whole set without realizing it beforehand, and he's not something I would have to plan my whole day around getting a good spot for him. It would be also easy to dip out a few songs early to get ready for LN (assuming there is anything good lol)
Idk if this is where you got this from, but someone on twitter is claiming they have sources calling Fleetwood Mac - Jay Z - Jack White
No sources and wasn't sourcing the twitter guy...
It makes sense to bring back Jack - I have to assume that his draw/booking price ratio is as high as any artist that could Headline Bonnaroo.
They need a legacy - Fleetwood Mac makes the most sense if they can make it work.
Jay Z makes the most sense for a Hip-Hop headliner. Drake apparently sucks live and Kanye is somewhere praying into a mirror. Kendrick makes second most sense even though that'd only be a 3 year gap.
A big alt-rock act like Gorillaz, Killers, Muse, or Black Keys would fill out the top 4 nicely.... if they brought in these other top 3, they could probably even get away with someone like MMJ at #4.

It would work but it's the obvious choice. It's So Easy absolutely crushed as the opener.
I'm not worried about losing Thursday as the warm-up "newer acts" day because in 2017 everyday was "newer acts" day, warming you up to go to another festival oooohhhhh
Swap Gorillaz with The Killers and I think you may be onto something. It does seem a tad early to bring Jack White back, though.
Fleetwood Mac // Jay Z // Jack White // The Killers Martin Garrix // My Morning Jacket // Solange // Odesza // Tyler the Creator // Alt - J // Run the Jewels // Foster the People Kaskade // Mac Demarco // Grouplove // Bonobo
