Didn't get watch much yesterday, but didn't expect ND and Penn State to dominate like they did last night. Everybody on gameday yesterday kept saying if ND wins out they will for sure be in the playoff, but if TCU wins out I think it's impossible. Feel like the SEC/BIG10/ACC will more then likely all have a team in it. The only way the ACC wouldn't I feel is if NCST or Miami was to lose to ND and go on to win the ACC Championship game. Then, if Bama & Georgia wins out until the SEC Championship game - how much would the loser of that one drop in the rankings? Especially since Georgia beat ND earlier this year.
Feel like VT has the trap game of the season next week. Last four meetings with Duke: 2-2 with all four games ending in a FG difference. Duke has also lost three in a row by one score. Not to jump ahead too much, but the first Saturday in November is a loaded slate of games. VT/Miami, Clemson/NCST, OU/OKST, LSU/BAMA, Penn St/Mich St.
Short answer: it's Notre Dame. The rules don't apply to them.
In other news, Tennessee opens +5.5 versus Kentucky. KENTUCKY!! What the actual fuck?

Also, to follow up on a previous point, I am totally more pissed about being a 5.5 point underdog to Kentucky than I was about being a 37 point underdog to Alabama.

From a glimpse into Watch Tennessee Football With Dave, my instant reaction to seeing this guy during the game was, "Pick your head up, bitch. You know what you signed up for."

Depending on how you look at the model, it puts Tennessee most likely as a 5-7 or 4-8 team this season. There is also prediction of a 12 point victory to Southern Miss. Makes me want to vomit.

I really with the AD would say something about the situation. The coaching seat is literally bursting into flames in the national media, there were rumors he would be fired after the game the past two weeks. The players don't live in a vacuum, they know what the situation is, and I think all the uncertainty makes it even harder to rally the team and find that desire and heart to win close games. At the end of dooley's tenure he lost the team and they gave up in games. It looks like that may happen here. I think the AD should either give him the vote of confidence to finish the season, or end it.
I really don't want to lose 8 games. we already lost the kentucky streak.

Trying not to be a homer, but it seems VT was shifted in the rankings this week. They gained 1 spot in the AP & Coaches poll after beating UNC by 50+. OkSt lost one spot in both polls after beating 3-4 Texas in OT. OU lost one spot in the AP and didn't move at all in the Coaches poll after scoring the game-winning TD against K-State with 7 seconds left. Washington stayed the same in the AP and gained a spot in the Coaches poll after the bye week, and the last game they played was an L to Arizona St!
It just don't add up to me. Interested to see what playoff rankings look like in a week.

I am right there with you. I don't think there's a person in Knoxville or in the media that seriously thinks Jones will be on the sideline at the start of next season regardless of when he actually gets the ax. I read that his buyout will have a significant reduction if he coaches Tennessee to bowl ineligibility this year, but people might burn this town to the ground before then. To your point, it does feel like a similar situation with the team compared to the end of Dooley's tenure. Regardless of if he apologized or not, Gaulden's actions on Saturday wouldn't have happened if he played for Alabama. Saban wouldn't put up with it.

Polls are still very subjective. At the end of the day, those other teams were supposed to be good this year, so I feel like the voters are always going to put them first. VT wasn't supposed to be as good, so they're going to be slower to rise. I know something similar happened to Clemson when they started their rise if you want a recent example.

Not fully self loathing post of the day
I am out at lunch and I saw Butch Jones giving a press conference on the news. My initial reaction was surprise that they decided to fire him on a Wednesday. Turns out he was just talking about Kentucky.
Knoxville PD going to great lengths to get rid of Butch.
Well, they don't have to turn themselves in until after Southern Miss, so Jones will be fired by then anyway probably. Just a matter of if they'll get suspended by the team before that.

Both suspended for Kentucky. Line was six. Let's see how high it goes.

In other news, USA Today updated their salary list. Some of the buyouts are funny to look at. For example, if Clemson wanted to fire Dabo this season (not that it would ever happen), the buyout would be $40 million.

I'm surprised both ND and Ohio St are TD favorites for Saturday. NC State is coming off the bye week and beat ND last season, Penn St has won easily in three straight conference games and beat OSU last season.
Looking ahead, good chance when UF/FSU play at the end of the season that both teams will be sitting at 5-5. Fun stuff
In other news, in addition to this PSU OSU game being a slugfest, it's gonna be brutal to watch.
OSU wearing these awful gray unis against PSU's white unis.
I’m definitely in the minority but I think they look sleek. The student section declared the game a blackout though which I think is kinda stupid for a 3:30 game.

I think it woulda been cooler with red numbers and some red on the sleeves.
but all gray vs all white is too similar, esp if it's gonna be rainy.
